I sent this back on 4/15 to Mrs. Dobbs...

I just read the wonderful article on the library's website about the life of Sarah Wyatt. I was especially intrigued by the mention of the artwork on the walls of the Wyatt home. I know that the Willinghams destroyed the artwork, but I was wondering if you knew if they bothered to take any pictures of any of it beforehand? I know I would have (even if the artwork wasn't by someone who was as talented as Sarah Wyatt). How could anyone just rip down artwork and destroy it like that?

Her response today:

Without knowing it, you have touched on a very delicate subject for me. I
personally led the campaign to try and force the Willinghams (who were new to
Aglaura at the time) to preserve the artwork inside Sarah Wyatt's former home
in some way. Unfortunately, among many other things, Doug Willingham is a very
good attorney, and we didn't stand much of a chance against him. I have never
forgiven Phyllis Willingham for what she did to both Sarah and to her creations
within that house. And I never will forget it either. Although I didn't know
Sarah nearly as well as I would have liked to, her artwork certainly touches me
in a very deep and personal way. As does her tragic story.
In answer to your question, I'm fairly certain that the only photographs taken
of the inside of the house before it was gutted are in the possession of the
Willinghams themselves.

Does anyone have a good enough relationship with one of the Willinghams and can ask about the pics?

Moreover

Sarah's work touched her in a deep and personal way?

SPEC: Ms. Dobbs has been experienced. We should ask.

Maybe in my reply to her I can get some more out of her - why she feels so touched by the paintings, etc.

Dear Pamela,
I'm not aware of any articles we have specifically about Ash Grove
Park. You
are certainly more than welcome to come and do research in our physical
and
microfiche libraries if it would help.

Mrs. Agatha Dobbs,
Head Librarian
Aglaura Public Library

Now I would think a library would have old articles and magazines referring to strange goings on in the ashgrove cemetery. But then again maybe not?

Nothing new from Mrs Dobbs

Quote:
Oh my! I must confess to letting your request for an old Aglaura (actually it would be Ongs Hat) map slip my mind in the hustle and bustle of last month's
Celebration of Local Arts here at the Library. I promise to put one of my
assistants on it immediately.
I will let you know if we have any success.

Mrs. Agatha Dobbs,

Nothing new really, but I keep working on it.
Charming old ladies used to be my speciality...

I asked about Wes´ books a while ago along with my perpetual request about a map:

Quote:
Dear Patrik:
We are still working on completing your last request, and now you send another
one! Some people are just so demanding.
I hope you realize that I am kidding.
We have actually located an old map of the area back when it was Ongs Hat and I have asked our webmaster, Sam Greene, to post it to the Aglaura site when he gets a chance. I thought that might be easiest since I don't have it in an
electronic form and need to have him scan it or something anyway. I'm not too good with all these modern devices.
As far as your other request, you are not the only concerned about Wes Keeler. His friends here in town seem somewhat alarmed too, although it's really not all that unusual for him to disappear unexpectedly for short periods of time on his little adventures. But those who know him best, including Sam Greene who I already mentioned, seem genuinely upset this time. In fact, he asked me for the
very same list that you did in your e-mail. It's really technically against our rules to give out this information, but, under the circumstances, I don't see how it could hurt. Here's the books Wes has checked out of our Library recently.

The Crock of Gold by James Stephens
L'Aiguille creuse by Maurice Leblanc
The Da Vinci Code by Dan Brown
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster
Le Grand Secret by Rene Barjavel
Le citta invisibili by Italo Calvino
Mission de l'Inde en Europe by Saint-Yves d'Alveydre
Leggende del mare by Maria Savi-Lopez
Four Quartets by T.S. Eliot
The Lost World of the Kalahari by Lauren Van der Post

That's a pretty interesting collection of literature, to be sure.
I hope that answers your questions and please keep checking our site for Sam to post the old Ongs Hat map when he gets around to it.

Thanks for your interest in the Aglaura Library.

got some more info from Agatha today in response the email I sent her...

Quote:
I simply can't fathom how the Willinghams could have destroyed all of that artwork, especially when there were people like you who were fighting against it. At least they took pictures. Why haven't they shared these with the public? I know that there would be a great interest from the art community, both locally there in Aglaura I'm sure and across the US. It almost seems that Phyllis is just waiting for some way to exploit Sarah again and will wait until she can profit the most from showing the pictures of the inside of the house. She'll probably try to get some television special out of it or something.

I am very excited about the artwork that is available in the auction this
week. Hopefully, I'll get the high bid on one of the paintings and get to
hang it in my home. There's just something about her work, I don't know
what it is... It's like it reminds me of something I should know or once
knew or something. It's odd that I can't exactly figure out my draw towards her work. You said that her work really touched you personally, also. Is that because she was from your area? Or because you knew of her? I sure wish I had gotten the chance to meet her. Smile

Well, thanks for the info about Sarah's work in the Willingham house. I
wonder if there is some way I can convince Phyllis to let me take a look at
those photos of hers.... I guess I would have to come up with alot of money to get anything out of her...

Thanks again

And Agatha's reply:

Quote:

Hi:
Thanks so much for your thoughtful and well-written e-mail.
I swear, if I lived to be four hundred years old, I would never come to
understand people like Phyllis and Doug Willingham. Your assessment of her
aren't too far off from my own.
I don't think there is much chance of getting them to "publish" the pictures of
Sarah's art inside the house, especially with all the current publicity about
her work. I can't see Phyllis publicly admitting to destroying all that
material that would stand to make her even wealthier than they already are. I
don't think her ego would allow her to do that.
As far as Sarah's work, I can't explain why it has special meaning to me and
obviously so many others. I can't tell you how many messages I have received
claiming the very same thing.
I hope you got what you wanted from our Fund Raising Auction.

Thanks for your interest in the Aglaura Library.

Sincerely,
Agatha Dobbs

Mrs Dobbs again:

Quote:
Patrik,
I just wanted to let you know that Sam promised me to try and get around to posting the old map sometime this weekend.
