I received an odd package in the mail today that included a postcard from "J" and a Sony IC Recorder with an 18-second sound clip of birds chirping.

Sound file, with the original file name, is attached below. Based on the Innsbruck reference (Austria), I think the bird pictured is a barn swallow. Tried running it through a spectrograph in Audacity and basic audio tweaks (speeding up, slowing down) but nothing jumped out at me yet. Any audiophiles out there with good ideas?

Other than my apartment number, only number I could see was on a yellow sticker with the number "0" on it. Didn't think that was significant, though.

So this is a promotion for Skyfall, in case anyone didn't see it fly past on their screen during the login sequence.

After logging in, you're taken to an interactive fiction bit. You're directing another agent. She has a Sony VAIO (tm) laptop, a Sony Xperia (tm) phone, and an exploding watch. Bad guys are after her. You have a limited amount of time to neutralize the bad guys and get the agent to safety.

There are catacombs nearby, which seems like the right choice to go to.

You can ask for a map. The room she gets to says the tunnel is fragile. There are some pipes there that she can attach the watch there. There is also a rusted shut drain. That's as far as I managed to get before the bad guys broke in and offed her.

I have to say that interactive fiction has come a long way since Zork!

 		Mission One next steps:

After attaching the explosives to the pipes, you can hide by the drains and use the explosives to kill the agents as they walk by. That still isn't the optimal solution, as you should be able to do it without killing them...email you get at the end suggests using darkness to your advantage.


Mission Two spoilers:

Only one I nailed on the first time: if you follow the guy you're tailing, you can slip your cellphone in his bag and let MI6 handle it from there. Go back to the hotel, check behind the bar, and hook up your laptop to the USB cable -- it'll show you a prism. Tell the agent to cut the wires in the order of the rainbow.


EDIT TO ADD: I swapped out the audio file on argn.com for a YouTube video with the sound file (along with the photo image included with the audio file) so that access to the campaign isn't contingent on the pittance I pay for hosting, and confirmed that it works.

Use another machine? Play the audio from a different device? Different browser maybe? Not sure what else to suggest - it worked fine for me on Safari on a Mac.

I've found that I have better luck using the computer's internal speakers to recognize the file: whenever I try to hold a microphone up to the external speakers, the audio recognition (presumably something Shazam-ish) didn't work.
