I figured the point of the tweet was so that they would be prepared to post it tonight. Unless it is an in game reason similar to what happened in 62 then i'm really not sure what the hold up is

HELLO AGAIN

Just popping in again (because this seems like the only thread that I could put this in) to share something that I made yesterday:

I have it up on DA if you guys want a proper download link:

That's awesome. You should also post that in the "CROSSOVERS" thread in the Slender Man Mythos forum. It would fit quite nicely.

Anyway, it doesn't look like we're getting a new entry tonight. Raeg.

This is REALLY off topic so I guess this is the best place for this.

I finished reading House of Leaves and I have to ask: fans of this book, what do you like about it? I really don't get why people were comparing Marble Hornets to this book. It's really boring and not even scary at all. I really wanted to like this book but it just dragged on and on and made you slog through pages of bullshit in order to get to the "good" parts. The only "good" parts of the book being in the Navidson Record, but even those parts aren't really that scary. So, what do people like about this book? And what similarities are there to Marble Hornets? Because I really didn't see any.

I didn't think there were that many similarities to Marble Hornets. You could say "because they were filming scary stuff" or "because there was maybe possibly something following them in the dark," but it's really a stretch to compare the two.

I liked the book because of how meta it was, but like you, I preferred the Navidson Record parts to Johnny's messed up story.

I'm a huge fan of House of Leaves.

It would take a lengthy essay to sufficiently answer your questions. But I'll be brief.

What do I like about the book? It's so different from a standard book. Everything from the use of footnotes, to the odd text formatting on many pages, to the use of different fonts to represent different speakers, to the various speakers even interacting in surprising ways. Truant's story is interesting. The Navidson Record is very interesting. And as someone else said, the book is so meta.

The way clues are hidden in the text (hinted at with the letters from Truant's mom at the end of the book) is also really neat.

Also, the author, Danielewski, formatted this book the way he did as a way of complaining about academic research papers, of which I've written plenty in my years at University, so this approach was something I found amusing.

I noticed people commenting on the similarities between HoL and MH back in season one, specifically with the entries dealing with Jay exploring Brian's house. In particular, Entry 23 (I think). In that Entry, we have Jay exploring the house and trying various doors, some of which lead to repeated rooms. This is what I think got people thinking back to HoL. There's also the whole "found footage" approach, which is what MH is about, at its core. HoL dealt not so much with found footage but found writings about a movie. The book has Truant piecing together a story from the many scraps of paper that Zampano left behind in that trunk. And the movie that Zampano wrote about dealt with home movie footage about exploring the dark depths of nothing, and a sensation of a creature lurking about.

I'll wrap up here, because you can see how I could easily turn this into an essay (in fact, I might even go ahead and write an essay on this on my own, as I do miss that from my years at Uni). Suffice it to say that I do see the similarities, and those are all mainly elements of style more than content.

I kinda wish Danielewski had just written The Navidson Record. The Navidson Record parts were genuinely creepy, they just couldn't get into "scary" levels of creepy because any tension or suspense that was built up by them is constantly interrupted by Zampano's essay and Johnny Truant's random stories, and consequently lost.

If Danielewski was trying to satirize academic criticisms, I think he should have made Zampano's essay more over the top pretentious. I mean, it was pretty pretentious, but not so over the top that it's very amusing or entertaining satire. His essay is just painfully boring for me to read through. Johnny Truant just wasn't interesting to me either. He just comes off as a typical "loser with a good heart" type character.

The Navidsons are way more complex and interesting. Also Navidson's children are surprisingly sinister, especially his son. I really wish the book focused more on them. But the fact that The Navidson Record is completely fictitious even in the book's own universe takes away all the suspense.

That's what I like about Marble Hornets. They get the satire in without sacrificing the scary. Like entry 7, you're laughing at Brian's ridiculous "loop of unhappiness" dialogue while anxiously scanning the background for slendy.

Yeah, I guess House of Leaves did have some good points, but I really wish Danielewski cut down on the Truant/Zampano bits or just cut them out all together.

You know, I would agree with you after the first time I read the book, but upon rereading it, I think that Truant's story is very chilling in its own way. He's a broken dude on the edge who winds up searching for a house that may or may not exist based on the writings of a blind mad man. That's very scary in its own respect, that it might just be imaginary.

So I'm just now realizing another neat advantage to having moved Marble Operator from TalkShoe to Skype: we now have a chat room, on Skype, that's always open to talk in. We've now been discussing Entry 64 there.

Anyway, yeah, I can see how the split narrations in HoL can be annoying. The way Truant's story ends is just...bizarre.

"Hey, remember those funny Timman posters Serum made?"
"Oh yeah, they were awesome! I hope they make a movie about Timman!"
"Yeah, me too! I just love Timman. He needs to be in everything."

I agree, guys. Timman is going to put Batman out of business.

You know, a lot of people have chalked up Tim's coughing to 'Operator sickness,' but the guy is a heavy smoker-- has anyone ever thought that maybe he's just hacking up phlegm and other crap? I mean, I smoke a pack a day myself so it's not uncommon to cough every now and then. Though Jay seems to have shown the same symptoms as Tim... maybe Jay's a closet-smoker, though.

Possibly, but when has Jay coughed the most? When he's around Tim. I'd say he's just breathing in Tim's second-hand smoke, because that's definetely a not made-up problem.
