Yikes

Didn't realize this was a sore topic on these boards (I mainly hang out in the MH board). Sorry! For the record though, I refuse to believe that this movie wasn't at least INSPIRED by Slendy. The similarities are too strong to be coincidental. Yes, the film makers may have created their own monster, but it is so close in topic to the Slenderman mythos that I couldn't blame anyone for making a comparison.

I looked into this movie a while back, but I can't seem to locate it on IMDB anymore, possibly because its title clashed with the upcoming remake of 1934's classic The Thin Man. Either it has been given a new title, or it's been shelved (which is unlikely considering its stage of development).

I have that issue of GI. The article says "The Thin Man is strikingly similar to the Slender Man myths."
Although since the article was written by someone at GI and not the game developers themselves, it's possible that the writer just had a knowledge of the myths and saw the parallels.

It could be good, but at the same time i'm really not sure I want to see slenderman on the big screen.

Call it selfish but i'd prefer to keep him out of the clutches of the Hollywood industry and leave it to the people here online like EMH and MH, and the good people of the unforum to continue to document their encounters with him and to continue to develop his character.

Slender movies. Eh. They're either doomed to fail, or they won't capture the essence of it properly. Two and a half hours just isn't enough.

I think the concept came into fruition before slendy, and the traits, when you think about it, are not too unique.

So this movie has gone direct to PPV and is available on DirecTV. I watched it tonight and can't wait to see what you all have to say. It definitely is not Slendy related nor does it even really have many similarities. Not at all what I expected, but I suspect it will be made fun of on here forever and rightfully so. I thought it was terrible and I don't usually say that about much of anything. So bad, it was funny, but not intentionally. One of the worst films I have ever seen.

In my honest opinion, I did not like the movie. It was poorly made. Or at least to me it was, I can't speak for the majority.

I am feeling bad about resurrecting this thread but I actually saw "The Tall Man" last night during a horror movie marathon at a cinema and I feel after watching it. It is slightly appropriate to talk about here.

If you ignore the last 10 minutes (or so) of the movie. This is a slenderman movie where Slendy never actually appears. Quick plot thing (Spoilers after what is in the opening is described.):

You start the movie where the main plot ends with the FBI Detective coming out of the mine in the town saying they have found no trace of the missing Children and then goes to talk to Jessica Biel's nurse character Julia (Sidenote: Second best acting I saw last night.) at the police station where we start a flashback to 36 hours ago.

We go through a "normal day" of Julia, She helps a young girl give birth and the narration tells us children have been disappearing every 2 months by "The Tall Man" and we are shown how poor and desolate the town is over the credits. You meet a lot of other characters at a Dinner (Cops, the Detective, Homeless woman who lost her son and looks like Dahlia Gillespie from the first Silent hill movie.) She visits a newborn/mother who is not there and sees the sister of this young girl who is mute and drawing a lot in a sketchbook (and is an important character.).

She then goes home plays games with her son who was during the day being watch over by a nanny and then passes out drunk. When she wakes up after this the son has been kidnapped and she chases after him and a guy in a massive coat and creepy van but fails to catch them. She is then picked up by the FBI detective an she is taken to the dinner while he goes out and searches.

Twisty stuff starts here:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
everyone in the dinner is acting suspicious and saying "she won't be happy" as she changes out of her bloody clothing into some clean ones. She then finds a shine which includes a picture of her son and it looks like the whole town is in on the kidnappings.

She slips away and everyone goes off into the woods with shotguns chasing after her apart from the Sheriff which drives off to a abandoned factory and talks to someone as the nurse slips out of the back of the police car. (don't those things not even have handles on the inside.) and sneaks into the factory to find her son.

Twist 2
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The guy who she has been chasing turns out to be the crazy looking woman and the nurse's son is actually HER SON and THE NURSE HAD KIDNAPPED AND BRAINWASHED HIM. After some fighting and the kid running away the mute girl shows up and "rescues him" only to take him back to their house in the middle of the woods and the nanny inject him with seditives and they keep saying "He will not like this" and other vaguely cryptic stuff like this.

The mute girl wants to meet HIM and Julia tells her to wait and she takes the kid down to the basement and we don't know what happens to him. Julia tells the mute girl that HE will be coming and she goes up stairs to wait for the angry mob and the police to come and she is arrested for the kidnapping and murder of the 18 missing children.

Her basement leads down to the abandoned mines and the police search all over but the kids are never found.

Right up until this point of the movie I thought that it would make a good slenderman-esc movie and she had been sacrificing children to him every two months (I couldn't help but think about StanFrederickBTS specifically.) But it isn't actually a slenderman movie so there is more.

The m night shama lama ding dong:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
We switch to the mute girls perspective, drunk abusive father (who grandson born at the start of the movie is also his son.) punching her mother and she wanders out into a field in the middle of the night to get away from them. While out there a hooded figure comes up who she recognises and takes her to his car...where the back seat opens up into a hidden compartment big enough to fit someone into.

She is taken to a city where a kindly looking woman talks to this man and he is revealed to be Julia (Supposedly dead) Husband and he has been taken children which Julia kidnaps from broken homes and brainwashing them to well off families where they can be raised in a loving environment and grow to their full potential. It the kindly woman wants to give him money but he refuses because "Julia has paid enough of a price".

It is then revealed that the narrator is this "mute" girl and she talks about her "three mothers" (her actual mother, Julia (Who stayed behind bars so the secret was never revealed.) and the kindly woman we saw and she is growing up happy and attending an art collage.)
[/spoiler]
