We won't be too far from Margaret's House of Bees, either. Very Happy

So, over 30 people and counting! (I'm keeping up my list on page 5)

I don't know the area well enough any more to suggest hanging out places for after. The only thing I can think of is DNA Lounge, but that's ... loud. And over 21. And industrial that night (http://www.dnalounge.com/flyers/2004/11/04-affliction.html).

I'll try to talk to Arana today and find out his status on the SF site.

Thanks for thinking of me! I can't make it. I would be a liability anyway. My only FPS experience is in Nanosaur and a bit of Weekend Warrior (FP hitting? with my 4 yr old son on my lap). Never even used a game machine controller yet, only a keyboard and joystick! I'm here for the ARG but enjoy hearing about Halo! I expect a detailed report next week!

It's been suggested that we can have our little ARGFest-O-Con afterward at Mel's Diner across the street from the venue. I don't know enough about it, so what do you think? Is it big enough? Any other places anyone can recommend?

I had lunch at Mel's today. It is definitely big enough to accomodate 30 people, but not all at one table. The food is sort of 50s burger diner style, but they serve tons of other good stuff. The food is good tasting, and the vanilla shakes are excellent.

I think it might be a little pricy for those who are operating on a budget. But, maybe some of those who aren't travelling can spot those who are. A couple of bucks here or there, as it were. Cool

You either take a long MUNI bus ride from the financial district (where the Metreon is) to the Castro, or take a taxi, rent a car, or take a long bike trip. Either way it's still a vehicle trip, not that close for a pedestrian walk.

I live a couple blocks south of Japan Town and it's still some ways off. My roomie has a car and we drove out there.

ok so it sounds like thursday is going to be a busy day. feel free to input your thoughts and comments but i think we should start around lunch time. the various beekeepers should meet with the SF crew at Aunt Margaret's or in the Metreon. From there we can socialize and meet each other and swap stories. If we didn't meet at Aunt Margaret's and rather at the metreon, then we SHOULD GO to aunt margaret's. we can also go around and show people around who haven't been to the city yet (i was just there yesterday!). and if time allows, maybe some HALO multiplayer for practice. because what i am guessing is that the SF site will meet the NY site, CHICAGO site, and AUSTIN site on XBOX LIVE and play HALO 2 online multiplayer against those guys.

Tired

I walked by the Metreon this evening. I saw no advertisment for our shindig (not that I expected to), but I didn't go up to the theatres, either.

There are plenty of late-night pubs and restaurants elsewhere in the city, but in that neighborhood, they are scarce.

I suggested Mel's. I also suggested Thirsty Bear. And there is the 4th Street Bar and Deli. The latter two are open until 11. Mel's is open until 3 am. I know of no place, without a reserved room, that could handle 30 people at one table. Mel's is the most affordable place I can think of in that area. The food is ok. The espresso shakes are the ones I like there. Please let me know of any place that is cheaper, bigger, better, stronger, wiser, faster, and more productive.

The 4th Street Bar and Deli is right across the street from the Metreon. It is a sports bar, so it has what all sports bars have, I imagine. I have never been there.

Thirsty Bear, about 3 blocks away, has excellent beer. The food is Spanish (they have tapas and appetizers too) and not cheap.

Edit: In the interest of full disclosure, there is a Denny's nearby.

How close? Wink And how different is it from Mel's price-wise?
