It doesn't look to me like the arrow looking thing was drawn in but rather it might have moved slightly in the wind or it was just the camera movement.

I was thinking it might be useful to start a thread of our burning questions. What do you all think? If the PMs are open to answering questions, would you please let us know? Thanks!

Anyone else seeing this?

Yes, absolutely I have seen this. What seems to be an arrow was pointed out by an astute observer very early on in this thread. I did think the picture had been manipulated and was a possible clue. In 2010 I searched that gazebo like crazy and have many photos of it, especially the back. Another reason it appears to be photoshopped is its placement on the Boardwalk. The buildings don't match those opposite the real gazebo. Also, the real gazebo is up on the boardwalk with steps leading down to the beach. The photo makes it look like it is level with the sand.

One other crazy idea I had about this video was about the birdie in it! If you look closely you can see a white bird flying from the gazebo towards the buildings and then disappearing. I wondered if that was our flying birdie and somehow indicated the direction we were to follow. Since I believed so strongly in the Coney Island clues, I watched this part of the video many times, just like you did, George--Kaplan.

As crazy as it may sound to some, I still think the Coney Island clues will be important in the final solution.

Arrow
Arrow

The Arrow isnt moving, its just the heat shimmering off the boardwalk. Its the same across the entire boardwalk.

They must be just holding something white.

SEAGULLS!!!
NO ARROWS

You guys are too funny. Just so you know every neighborhood near the ocean and rivers happen to be loaded with seagulls in NYC. All types of seagulls. Small seagulls to really massive ones. The shine in the sun because they are often really white. That is what you see. No arrows. Remember when you were a kid and you drew arrows in the sky and called them birds?

I serously doubt that the treasure hunters would use an actually flying bird as a clue. Has to be something more concrete.

Here is a thought though, Coney Island might be the actually ship since I believe the crow's nest is the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Have you noticed that Mulligan says something wrong in each and every video. Crothers never got shot in the head.

captain12fingers,

You have misunderstood the original reference. The thing that appears to be a white arrow is near the bottom of the gazebo. No one said this arrow was a bird. It's really hard to tell what it is. It's true, the person may be just holding something white.

with all due respect to everyone coming out of the woodwork sharing their ideas here now that its over - these ideas are how this forum got so off track in the first place.

obviously I can't say for certain until the creators give us their solution, but I'd bet any amount of money that the arrow being discussed has absolutely nothing to do with the hunt. I cannot tell what it is, but it is the sort of grasping and reaching that perpetuated the boards when the hunt was going on. It makes me laugh only because we now know the final answer and still have big reaches like this.

With all the witty references, word play and in-depth research involved in things like Cybele's Shepherd, do we really think that the crucial clue is a hastily drawn arrow (assuming that its not just something resembling an arrow in the picture like clothes or an arm) in an advertisement vid (not an actual episode)?

By all means it is fun to say "this was the idea I had, but I was wrong" or "wouldn't it have been cool if this is the clue they'd have used", but to actually discuss the merits of this "arrow" seems like a dog chasing its tail again. Can we all agree that it should be filed in the "I got hung up on this non-obvious red-herring that would have been a major let-down if it was an actual clue" file?

(I like quotation marks)

Obsessions are part of the game

I don't begrudge anyone their obsessions. I doubt that there is anyone who took this seriously who didn't obsess about something that turned out to be wrong.

And the reverse is even worse. I made 3 day trips from Mass. to search Floyd Bennett Field and then gave up. In hindsight, I'm convinced that one more trip would have led me to the Black Gates of Hell and eventually to the loot. But after three exhausting days, I figured it was a false obsession and gave up. My bad.

(BTW, FBF is a larger area than Central Park)

Gazeebo

Maskit: That Gazeebo and arrow is definitely photoshopped. I went to that exact spot a bunch of times and the surrounding area is not the actual scenery in real life. I even had workers there confirm it was photoshopped.
I thought for sure the treasure was under the boardwalk. Between that Gazeebo pic, the parachute jump being crows
Nest, "shoot the freak in the face" game is right there, and even home plate of Cyclones Stadium is about 250ft.
I am shocked it is not in Coney.

Its not photoshopped.

The 'We Lost Our Gold' website was registered in 2005, so this hunt has been a long time in development. Anything could have changed in that area in that time, especially considering Coneys fortunes.

Checking google maps right now even has the boardwalk with the gazebos undergoing complete renovations.

Oh, Brother!

Bang Head
Guys this is a picture of a three people sitting down. One who has a poster size board in her lap the other a sketch book that just happen to be fanning out. There is a 3rd person between the two of them. NO ARROW! They are probably artist doing sketching, ya know you see that a lot around New York. In every borough.

I think it's time to start accepting that we will never know the solution.

I'm waiting also. Just want to know if what I had was right or not? I spent a lot of time on this as many of you on this board have. Probably more because I have never done anything like this and really had no clue how to do any of it. I've spent money traveling to and from the city. I live in LI. I've enjoyed myself and learned a lot. Just want to know if all the research I did mattered or not.

Hurricane Sandy hit NY at the end of October. It is now mid January. There is no solution posted by the puppet masters. No follow up video. No explanation.

Sorry guys , I call BS because logically the puppet fellas would have a list of all their clues and what they mean therefore there is zero rational reason why it would take 2.5 months to post that onto their website. That comes across as either A) their clues didn't add up and the smarter folk would rip it apart or B) this was a pure hoax from the getgo.

Not saying this to be negative however what do we really have as FACTS:

1) Two guys made some media noise with a treasure hunt

2) Same two guys , years later, posted that "evidence was damaged" and therefore unearthed what they allegedly buried.

3.) Two guys made essentially zero media noise when "treasure" was found and The small NY Times article on this stated:

"The idea was to increase Web traffic for their projects – and perhaps catch the eye of someone willing to pay them for the next one. We Lost Our Gold, the Web site, had thousands of followers, but one of their other puppet productions found a bigger audience and was nominated for a Webby Award. So Mr. Bova and Mr. Eckhardt-Jacobi decided to end the treasure hunt.".

So did they end the hunt due to "damaged evidence" or did they abandon ship because raising money for WLOG became a lost cause and they decided to pursue whatever their other tag team of puppets.

Strange.

I don't think so. I hope not. I'm trying to remain positive. My husband has been saying the same thing for a long time.

I just can't understand how you could make a written or verbal puzzle without first having written down the clues/path.

Maybe they are too busy with Glove & Boots. Sad
