Online SMS tools and Phone Tree System
Would like to interact via text and create a phone tree

Hello,

I am starting an ARG / multi-platform theatre piece and would like to be able to interact via text with the players.

I would like to be able to:

Receive and store messages
Send different texts to different responses. Ie. To eat the apple text 'yes' to cross the bridge text 'no'.
Would like to be able to send out regular messages
Store numbers easily in databases

Phone tree:

Are there any free online phone tree systems. I would like to be able to upload media and create different pathways through the game.

Thanks so much for your help. It is hugely appreciated as I am a total n00b.

Please forgive me if I have broken any unspoken forum rules.

I remember seeing a phone tree service somewhere out there for free - but I'll keep looking as I've lost the link. Sad Try Google.

As for the SMS, this is the closest thing I could find: http://www.textmarks.com/

You could most likely build a script that Textmarks calls up.

Voice Messaging Software

If you are a Linux user, you can look at http://www.vocpsystem.com/. Great utility with loads of features but you have to be Linux proficient.

Here's on for Windows: http://www.3cx.com/ . As I have never personally used this one, it might get you started in the right direction.

If you already have VOIP, you are nearly halfway done. Otherwise, you will need to purchase one or dedicate a land line to a modem in your computer. Most PM's will agree that having the CID of your home coming up on someone elses phone is not a good thing. Most VOIP lines can provide a nice CID of 000-000-0000 and they are relatively cheap.

I'm looking for the best system if possible. Need some review before decide to use this system.

I recommend the Linux one. I'm not too familiar with the windows one but I find the Linux one very good.

What if you were to buy some cheep revol or Go Phones and use those numbers to authenticate some google Voice accounts? Does that seem like a viable option?

I agree, I would do something like this. A friend of mine did something similar for his soccer team, and from what I hear, it worked well. Go with Google Voice.

Hi lurk,

I am curious to whether you were able to accomplish this or not. If so, how? I have been using cheap voip to try and set up my phone tree system, but have not had a whole lot of success thus far.

Thanks
Henry
