Puzzle Trail

Here is one of those url-based puzzle trails I remember from years ago. It was taken down at one point before being hosted on its own site. It is in the style of notpr0n, though more accessible in my opinion.

The creator doesn't want the solutions being given away, but it's fine if you want to give clues and help each other.

This is actually pretty fun. I'm up to level 10 so far. I can't seem to figure it out...

I realize there's a missing L but I don't know what to do with it. It says something about math and subtraction on the page but I've tried everything I can think of. 50, 40 (since the page is 10 I figured subtract 10 from 50), fifty, forty, xl, XL.

I'm not playing this trail, but your intermediate step reminds me of a kid's riddle:
