connect the dots

ok this may be a stupid idea but connecting the dots almost looks like the vulcan text we found in the previous arg.

correction, romulan.

I have to bounce off to do some work but here is a very rude guestimation when connecting the dots. Note someone with more attention to detail may do better.

Hate to spoil the fun, but Dadio - where did you get the "jpg"?

The raw image used on the site is http://www.areyouthe1701.com/files/images/1701.gif
That gif has solid colours.
As a JPG, say if you screen capped and pasted somewhere (eg), it could contain compression artifacts depending on what opened and used the image content.

Play with the GIF file itself. There are no 'tetris blocks' (which, btw, are the size of the compression regions in the jpg file used to create the display image in this thread)

There are alternate images used on the FB and Twitter profile tiles that are identical. Would Twitter and Facebooks compression algorithm create the same/identical tetris block affect and the two objects on the left and right?

Ok people,
here is twitter picture:
https://si0.twimg.com/profile_images/2987301321/7af8171785fdc56e5390bbd9bc3872f0.jpeg

Here is facebook (perhaps only visible with Facebook login)

Look into this screenshot. If you play around with Brightness, Contrast and Gamma correction, there is just a slightly blink, where you can seen the codes. I don't know, whether it's just technical, since it looks for me not so really random. Only just a blink, and the dots desappear again. Btw. twitter and facebook seem to have different codes???

*going to try this thing on a random image, to check out, whether it's really so random or so intended*

What the hell happened when i was away?!

Well alrighty so we could be onto something here, I like the romulan idea but I can't seem to match up all the symbols to the alphabet, has anybody else had a crack at it?

No luck on my end either. I even tried a Klingon alphabet but there are several of them floating around.

It may be worth someone more creative going back over the dot matrix to do an aproximation of the letters. I guessed which way to connect and there could certainly be some variations.

Well, if you rememeber Cloverfield, the promo poster for the film had the NYC skyline with the SOL's head missing and the city in ruins, but that shot never appeared in the film and had no part in the ARG... but, it is Alternate Reality ..

They say they will notify us when the game begins... We'll see if it has begun before it officially begins..

ok - not going to that location yet then - but can and will do if people want me to [just not tonight - 2 red wines in, writing my own arg thing and in general too tired!]
thanks for info - also - any possibility of the image being generated - not seen the thing in depth - but it could be 'future shot' as such...

Tip on jpegs:
Highly compressed JPGs have visual content that can't be "trusted" to retain detailed information. For one, compression ruins flat colour areas. And if you look at the edges of the circles around the brighter flat colour regions of those 2 jpgs you can see the artifacting clearly. Those jpgs simply appear to be highly compressed, whether by the designer, or by the services to which they're uploaded (FB/Twitter). IMO, you can't trust those JPGs to contain the kind of details hidden to the degree you're looking for it, visually. And the designers will (should) know that... if there were a very, very, very faint 'puzzle' in the colours, it would be best hidden in a GIF or PNG where that detail isn't susceptible to degradation by compression.
The 'tetris blocks' are typical in appearance to a high compression jpg algorithm.

TheBruce is correct. Here is an example of the compression distortion in the screen shot posted last week. Note the light panels.
