Been poking around at one of the alien scripts that shows up so we can have a key...with a few exceptions, it looks like there's a 1:1 match between alien characters and English.* I also included a screencap of the hexagonal script -- haven't tackled decoding that since we have fewer characters as sample, but it also says "REGISTER NOW FOR ADVANCE MISSION BETA"

*I say English because even when you view the site in French and German, the alien language decodes to English. The 1:1 match isn't perfect, as some letters appear to have different versions depending on your source.

Really exciting to see this tie-in to a TV show. Perhaps that might become the one MMO with an ever-evolving mythos based on what happens on the small screen. We shall see.

on the SyFy's 20th anniversary special, they had a segment about Defiance. The show will have stories in St.Louis, while the online game will play out in San Francisco, but both are within the same universe and will have characters and stories which refer to each other.

I with they had done this for Caprica, with New Cap City.

The Von Back site actually embeds a custom font, which I've copied and converted to TTF, if anyone's interested (attached)

Not every character has a variant, however. And with similar patterns showing for keyboard-adjacent characters, I think the language may not be a 1-to-1 alphabetic substitution; however, practically speaking, it could be used to convert english text to alien characters.

That is to say, in hearing that they've created whole languages, and presumably written text, I hope that the alien text isn't simply english substitution =) and that the alien text use on the site is simply arbitrary (the language is still english)

Perhaps we'll see some alien text use that's more phonetic...

Anyway, I'm also attaching an image of some of the texts found in the videos. The 2nd language, the hex style, I'm not sure of yet... Haven't found a web font, and the detail in the similarities between characters is minute. Haven't put much effort into organizing that yet. Plus, I'm guessing someone else has already done all this (any other fan communities out there, probably?)

Finally, here's my list of 6 codes so far I've found, via 3 videos. Didn't spot one in the EGO video...

Well we have the Defiance forums.
Code discussion appears to be here. Though IMO it could be documented a little better. They've broken down the shifting text at the end of the "Gameplay trailer, massive co-op" on page 3 and think there are about 16 codes to pull from it.

Another code was found on the main game page.
