[QUESTION] Still possible to add a public axon for Sunday?

Hello all,

I only discovered this rather exciting world last weekend and have nearly worked myself to death trying to catch up on everything that's happened so far and jam it all into my brain. I have to express gratitude for the keepers of the various wikis and blogs and all the other informational resources that make it all somewhat understandable, and I also have to thank those who share information on this forum (another invaluable resource).

I was hoping to be able to answer a phone on Tuesday, however, it wasn't to be the case: of the two axons on recipe6 that were within reasonable driving distance of me, neither of them made it onto recipe7. I noticed this too late to do anything about it, so now it looks like I'm possibly left with Sunday as my last chance to feel like a participant rather than just a voyeur.

There's a payphone not 100 yards from my front door. I've acquired its phone number, tested it for audible quality, located GPS coordinates for it, and made a tactical assessment of the area's security. All factors look favorable.

If I send all this information to Dana's e-mail address, do you think it might not be too late for Melissa to add it to the list for Sunday? I need to send a photograph of the phone showing its phone number and a sign with the coordinates, right? Do I need to include myself in this photo as well? Any other information that I need to include and/or helpful hints?

I'm sad that I'm coming in right at the tail end of it all, but I at least want to try to answer one call before it's all over.

Thanks for any advice.

p.s. Despite never having spoken to her myself, and only knowing about her through the wav files and call transcripts that I've been devouring for the past few days, I was absolutely horrified to hear about the fate of the Princess. It was just so sudden and wrong. I'm grateful to everyone who posted their conversations with her, even though they made her departure all the more painful to cope with.

Welcome to the party. Sadly, I think this is last call, and Sunday will not be any payphones. I think it is going to be direct calls and via the web only.

Correct e-mail address?

I went ahead & e-mailed my axon info & photos to danatwingSPLATgmail.com -- is that the correct address, or should I have used ladybee777SPLAThotmail.com instead? They both go to Melissa now, right?

Perhaps it's futile because perhaps there will might be no further public axon calls -- but perhaps there will be. I'm hoping there are. We'll see.

Yeah, unlikely. But you never can tell. Worst case, hang out here and in chat and see what happens.

SUCCESS!

Soldier,
Excellent work providing data on this axon.
I will attempt road construction immediately. If I am successful, it
will appear on the next broadcast schedule as:
Latitude: ??.??????
Longitude: -??.??????.

EDIT: Censoring the coordinates since the phone is right across the street from me. Not that I don't trust y'all, but, y'know.

It looks like there will be one more broadcast schedule that includes the public axons. I don't know if this will be Sunday's broadcast or if there will be another "normal" broadcast on Tuesday, but either way it looks like I'm probably going to get to answer a payphone before the end. Yay!

Now I'm trying to to get a personal axon by leaving a message on the voice mail, but it's still full, as it has been the last few times I've tried it. Any idea how often Melissa clears the messages?

Yeah, ummm, we really wouldn't have known your axon is across the street from you, if you hadn't told us. I list our hardline coords in my profile, but that doesn't tell you where I live.

Heh, not anymore.

I'm so thrilled that my axon made it onto recipe8. That's so awesome. I'm terrified that I'm on at 11:00, though. I hate going first. If there's a question, I might or might not be boned. I've been spending every day for the past week studying up, and I'll probably pull an all-nighter cramming, but still. If I bomb the one and only call I get to answer, I'm going to cry.

Very condensed time window. MANY people will be answering "early" phones with no info about what question/task might be going on. Those who cannot get to axons are even more critical this week, because those of us with axons have a LOT of them, all crammed into a 3 hour window. Like 94 of them. (Mostly blocks of ten calls at the same time at Union Station). If there is coordinating to be done, we're going to have to rely on folks in the forums and watching the websites for help!

this is just crazy... like, at places like you say, with 94 axons, what's the area going to be like? a sudden influx of people manning and guarding the phones waiting for these incoming calls, loads of phones ringing within in a minute of each other... all over the country...

meta: holy cow what a massively undertaken hype machine!

I'm wondering what the owner of the little shop where my axon is will think. He's seen us there for the past couple weeks answering his phone, but on Sunday, it will ring 8 times in an hour!

the likelihood of Sunday Q&A

This is complete [spec] on my part, but I have doubts about this transition following the standard Q&A of the rest:
1) we've been told it's different (or special or whatever the exact words were)
2) there's reason to believe this may be the last broadcast [cue violins]
3) it's massively parallel - not only are you going first, but so are score of others
4) [META] given 3 & 4 I doubt the PMs want to deny great #s of beekeepers a chance to participate in the conclusion

This isn't to say you shouldn't read up on the backstory; even if my spec is right, it'll probably all make more sense if you know the details & priors. And if I'm wrong, you can answer the question, post the response to save the rest of us & send me a big fat 'told you so' [cue ticker tape parade in your honor]

I know it's an unusual transmission, but I still figure there'll be some kind of challenge involved, so I'm trying to prepare for anything. On the plus side, if I blow it, I can probably run back to my apartment and report what happened by 11:03 or so.
