Why are you whispering? Is The Operator behind you? You better have some Nutella, I hear it is worth $20.

Get rid of this small text before DHawk REAGES

My small text was a comment on his small text, just as your small text is. Besides I then added something constructive to the thread as the small text was not.

You've done nothing.

Jay's Job

So lurking around on the forums, I notice a lot of people are making fun of in-game Jay having no job and not posting entries, and the series isn't realistic because Jay has no job yet he stays in hotels all the time, etc. However, I always seemed to think that because YouTube obviously exists in the MH universe, that Jay was earning income off of his YouTube ad revenue because according to YouTube statistics, he makes around 100k per year, which is more than enough to live in multiple hotels for a year. Am I the only one that thinks this? Is there a flaw in my theory or something? I guess the only flaw here would be that ToTheArk also has ads on their videos, which is not as much as a flaw as a hilarity imagining ToTheArk earning 10k per year off of posting cryptic responses to Jay. "What do you do for a living?" "....I, um, stalk and post creepy responses to a guy on YouTube investigating a faceless man." "OK then.." Very Happy

What do you guys think?

The argument was that there were no ads on MH videos. That was probably caused by adblock users.. >>

Yeah, I just checked. MH has ads when you don't use Adblock.

I wouldn't think the ads exist in-universe, honestly. That being said, it doesn't seem vitally important to know how Jay makes money.

Honestly, at this point I'm just assuming that he's a trust fund baby or something similar. I know one person who's 28, never worked a day in his life, spends 100% of his time online, and still acts like a socially-awkward 16-year-old. That's probably Jay. I like that interpretation because it makes Tim's constant irritation with him a lot funnier. And it's totally reasonable that Jay would be self-conscious and not tell us this fact about himself. Razz

Hahahha. That's actually pretty reasonable.

Well when you think about it, every time we've seen Jay not investigating or driving, he's just sitting around on his laptop.

There's also the possibility of student loans. Depending on where (if anywhere) Jay was going to college before all these shenanigans started, that could've been a significant chunk of money Jay could have taken with him on the run. Or online jobs, like editing and what not. Maybe he freelances his services to different websites.

Would that be enough to sustain his costs though?

If he's very careful about how he spends his money, yes. If he eats cheaply (doesn't eat out, but buys stuff like bread and peanut butter from the store) stays at hotels with cheap weakly rates (and remember, he's single, so he'll fair better than a couple or family would), and uses places with free wi-fi he could last for quite a while. And for all we know, he works as a temp. of sorts, picking up odd jobs here and there. Enough to get by on. Hell, if he had to Jay would probably (and already has at points) sleep in his car.

So I'm assuming that nobody's on board with the ad thing? Sad

I would assume ads exist in game. I don't see why they wouldn't.

I always assumed Jay had insurance money from his house burning down.
