[SPEC] Ron is a rogue

Here's the text from Ron's post-massacre IM-ing session with us. I decided to take a direct approach to wondering why he, out of everyone, survived.

Quote:
puzzlecards (5:20:46 PM): wishi when i woke up there was no sign of jaimie and like i said i heard more people coming and left by a direction i hadnt come in
dmax801 (5:21:03 PM): Ron, since the deaths, there has been tampering to the iaminvisible.com site. We've been discussing it, and there is significant wonder as to who might have done the work.
dmax801 (5:21:05 PM): You, honestly, are one of the folks that we wonder about. There is general concern that you're the "butterfly" spoken of.
puzzlecards (5:21:11 PM): it took me hours to even figure out where i was
puzzlecards (5:21:33 PM): and by the time i did everything was over with, the police had already been there and removed the bodies
dmax801 (5:21:41 PM): I know I'm not alone in thinking this.
puzzlecards (5:22:01 PM): well about the iaminvisible site - palmer had brought his computer with him
puzzlecards (5:22:18 PM): im guessing michael or whoever might have been with him found it
puzzlecards (5:22:29 PM): and found info on it that allowed them to access Palmer's site
dmax801 (5:22:39 PM): that doesn't sound right
dmax801 (5:22:42 PM): you're the web guy
puzzlecards (5:22:49 PM): we were with Palmer in the beginning before we went into the old building
puzzlecards (5:23:21 PM): but he stayed outside and up top to help maintain the wireless connections and look out for signs of trouble
puzzlecards (5:23:30 PM): which certainly didnt work out well, now did it?
puzzlecards (5:23:47 PM): thats great steven
dmax801 (5:23:52 PM): well, ron, it depends on what your goal was as to how well things did/didn't work out
dmax801 (5:24:26 PM): if palmer was close on the trail of a suspected killer, then having him die would've been to the killer's advantage
puzzlecards (5:24:41 PM): our goal was to find evidence of what was going on and make it out in one piece, obviously we failed at that
dmax801 (5:24:41 PM): ergo, things would've worked out well
puzzlecards (5:24:54 PM): i can fill you in a little more on palmer's involvement actually
puzzlecards (5:25:22 PM): he had this crazy theory that the killer he had been tracking was indeed one of the seventh sons
puzzlecards (5:25:34 PM): actually the seventh son of a seventh son
puzzlecards (5:26:01 PM): who he theorized either went rogue or insane from what the Seventh Sons group was trying to do to him
puzzlecards (5:26:24 PM): and came here to Cambridge back in the 1930s I think it was
puzzlecards (5:26:37 PM): to kill a rival "seventh son" the society had raised
puzzlecards (5:26:52 PM): he claims theres a gravestone on the property that confirms it
dmax801 (5:27:17 PM): so, Palmer contends that there's a rogue 7th son who is murdering.
dmax801 (5:27:29 PM): and you and palmer and others go into the tunnels and only you come out alive.
dmax801 (5:27:38 PM): and palmer's webspace changes
puzzlecards (5:27:43 PM): im not sure about any of that though, palmer tried to explain it all but to be honest i had other things on my mind
dmax801 (5:28:19 PM): the CSS code (something that you would know how to manipulate) changes to a boast that he is dead
puzzlecards (5:29:10 PM): dmax the Seventh ons don't appear to stupid as far as computers either, do they?
puzzlecards (5:29:23 PM): take a look at their site
dmax801 (5:29:31 PM): that doesn't exonerate you
puzzlecards (5:29:36 PM): you don't think that's something they could have done?
puzzlecards (5:30:00 PM): ok im sorry but i need to go, i need to make it to NY and talk to robinson before something happens
puzzlecards (5:30:05 PM): he may be our last chance
dmax801 (5:30:07 PM): you had palmer's laptop
puzzlecards (5:30:15 PM): thanks everyone for stopping in here
dmax801 (5:30:15 PM): access to iaminvisible
puzzlecards (5:31:50 PM): i'm not sure if michael took jaimie first and was coming back for me
puzzlecards (5:31:56 PM): or if i was spared for some reason
puzzlecards (5:32:04 PM): i guess we'll have to ask michael that
puzzlecards (5:32:26 PM): ok i need to go, thanks everyone

Frankly, I started that accusation gently, on a lark, expecting an emotional rebuff. Imagine accusing someone of causing multiple homicides if they were innocent and the only survivor!

Instead, he never does more than ask me a rhetorical question about whether the Seventh Sons are also capable.

Of course, this proves nothing. But it's certainly raising my eyebrow... Is Ron the rogue son? Is Ron the butterfly? Did he bring Palmer down there to kill him?

Can we trust him....?

After all he has been through... don't you think you were a little harsh?

If he were a victim, he would've been much more upset.

However, he didn't react at all to the accusation. Didn't seem upset in the least.

Does this make Ed the real unsung hero of the story?
