[SPEC]ARG Parallel with .hack MMO?

So I've noticed that Bandai has a survey question on the business reply mail that comes with the .hack games for PS2 that reads somewhere along the lines of:

"Would you be interested in a .hack MMORPG?"

Now, if you don't know a lot about the game the whole story line is based around the Mass Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game know as "The World". Basically, you are playing a game in the game and freaky crap starts to happen (hackers, rampant AIs, corporate conspiracies. Read more about the .hack project here).

So I read this question and sort of laughed at the irony of what it was implying. But then it got me thinking.

When you play the PS2 game you play "The World". But with every game comes a DVD with the OAV of ".hack//Liminality" which follows the events that happen in the game in the 'real' world.

Doesn't this smell like a perfect ARG opportunity to you guys??

Think about it. Within the next 10 years Bandai ships the game under the name of 'CyberConnect2 Co.' with the title of 'The World.' You get the game put it on your computer and the opening screen is the Altmit OS desktop. You connect to the world and you play it like anyother MMO, until rumors start spreading that the game is potentially harmful and is causing players to go into comas. Next thing you know you're running away from out of place, over-leveled monsters and you warp to sites that is all staicy and screwed up with a ghostly image of a little girl floating in the middle of it.

It'd be an international MMO/ARG hybrid on every hallucinagenic there is! What do you guys think?

Sounds a lot like the plot from Killobyte by Piers Anthony. Great premise, rotten execution in that instance.

If they ever did that, I would be drooling on my desk in joy becuase that series would have to be the greatest series ever created. It's already the best series ever created, but if they made an MMORPG and tied it into an ARG... darn... I don't know what I would do with myself.
