I just watched the trailer Tim posted on his Twitter-- it actually looks pretty good. It has a Marble Hornets feel, with the mix of urban decay and rural nightmarescapes. Though, I do think that a video-game based entirely on Marble Hornets would be awesome once they finished the series. Even if it's loosely based on the series.

For instance, I played this one game called "Catherine," which was essentially "Eyes Wide Shut: The Interactive Experience." So maybe a full-blown Marble Hornets game would come out looking something like "Dead Rising," with the camera aspect-- only instead of a still-shot camera, you'd have a camcorder and whatnot. And there could be a "rescuing of survivors" kind of thing, too, if that would fit in.

What you are describing might just be what Slender: The Arrival will be about, the game pretty much looks like one long "non-narrative" entry.

Well, as a writer, I like narrative-- but as a gamer, when it comes to survival horror, I prefer a third-person view over a first person view, which is what appears to be the way the new game is looking. I think it should play more like Silent Hill than say... Doom.

As opposed to Monopoly? Evil or Very Mad

Um... that's more of a board game than a video game. But, sure. I guess if you want to say that, it kind of works...?

Pretty biased comparison imo, Doom (I am guessing you are talking about Doom III) is nowhere the horror game Silent Hill is (or at least was). But if that's what you prefer then more to you Smile
For me I like non-narrative stuff, does not matter if it is third or first person, which does not mean I do not want any story. I Just want an immersive universe that does not need to make you sit and be told every little detail of the story. However I do like it when games give you the opportunity to look into the details if you wish to do so (I am thinking of games like Left 4 Dead and Portal 2). I am hoping the arrival will be similar: running around in a big open-world (or multiple levels) where it is just you and your camera, trying to figure out how to get out (while maybe accidentally finding out what is going on) while the Slenderman and his minions come after you.

No, I meant "Doom" as in the 1993 game. Having played Doom since it was released in '93, like many other Doom lovers, I was outraged at how poorly Doom 3 was done. But that's beside the point. I think that for a Marble Hornets game, you should be able to see the character you're controlling from a third person perspective as opposed to a point of view shot, unless you're using the camera-- like in "Dead Rising" and "Dead Rising 2: Off The Record."

I don't think most people mean Doom 3 if they refer to Doom. They might mean like, Doom in general, but even then, they likely mean Doom, Doom II, Final Doom, Doom 64, everything but Doom 3.

To me, Doom 64 is the real Doom 3.

Which appears to be the case, since there's a battery indicator and a red circle with REC next to it.
In addition to that: there can be no distortion if we're experiencing the game through the protagonist's eyes, as the distortion is only noticeable on technical devices.
I'd say it makes sense for it to be in a first person perspective.

It's not that I immediately think of Doom III when I think of the Doom franchise but when comparing games you compared Silent Hill to Doom... And the only Doom game that can be defined as a survival-horror game like Silent Hill is Doom III. Doom and Doom II, while horror-themed, are not survival games in my opinion. And don't get me wrong here, they are way better games than Doom III Razz

Well, "Doom 3" had some good ideas, but all in all, it wasn't a Doom game to me. To me, a Doom game is running around in expansive, outdoor levels filled to the brink with demonized humans, imps, pinkies and the most important thing "Doom 3" forgot: The Spider Mastermind.

Anyway, as far as a Marble Hornets game goes, I would design it as a cross between the following:

Survival Horror (Third Person) -- like Silent Hill.
Dead Rising (the camera aspects and survivor stuff)
Evasion instead of Combat (As seen in Silent Hill: Shattered Memories)
Mystery (In the same vein as "Myst" with collecting pieces of the puzzles)
Open World "Sandbox" (Weird, I know, but it would have a GTA aspect to it, too.)

...People often tell me I should write and produce video-games for a major company. But then again, 90% of my video-game ideas are about sensationalizing mundane activities, like preparing for a hurricane and enduring the subsequent power outage. I don't think anyone would want to design most of the stony ideas I have... Dunce

New post up: http://jtroyw.blogspot.com/2013/01/extra-stuff.html

Apparently, the delays came from numerous rewrites.
#67 should hopefully not take as long.

Oh, thank God. My throat is tightened with apprehension.

So best case scenario is finish the writing this week, finish filming early next week, edit and have an entry by Sunday, February 10?

That's probably a bit optimistic, but I'm hoping.

Best case scenario we have the next entry in 64 days

Worst case scenario it takes longer than last wait
