I suppose you're right, but I just called it the Order in quotations as a placebo for whatever they are.

*placeholder, I don't think placebo is the right term here...

Oh dear god those sounds at the end were FANTASTIC. Shocked Silly

It seriously bothers me how one series can at once have such a fantastic Rake and such boring, unthreatening proxies/cultists/dudes in robes.

I don't think we've seen enough of the dudes in robes, honestly. Maybe they'll begin to feel threatening as the story progresses.

Hopefully they will. I'll still keep watching even if they don't, though, since this has got me intrigued. Someone in YT comments section said their acting was lousy and I agree, they're trying too hard to sound evil. Even people in weirdo cults don't talk like that.

Exactly. (because I'm pretty sure the PM reads the forum, here's some shiny pretty links to help out:)

http://www.lermanet.com/deprogramming/five-steps-to-create-a-cult.htm

An "evil crazy religion" does not a cult make. Rolling Eyes Cult members are people too. Round them out.

I've used the above links 100s of times for stories, just general research/learning, ect. Also because I'm a follower of a belief system that some people consider a cult so I made sure I had my facts straight so I could defend myself that, yes: "just because you don't like the beliefs or fail to understand them doesn't make it a cult." [/strike]

Just marathoned this today. God, those sounds are horrifying. This series has my attention.

You know, when I first saw the knife, my immediate thought was of all those "singing swords" in myths.

Also, I want to point out that while regular cults try to sound legit, this isn't exactly a "regular" cult, given that they're serving an eldritch horror. So I'm pretty sure acting legit and being sane is out the window at this point. XD

Considering they have almost 1000 subscribers in less than 5 months, I'd say so, too.

WF needs to take a page from DH in terms of cults because the Order in that is threatening(to an extent), but like in the TT crossover god they were actually human, which is what made that video so terrifying.

these robe guys need to have like face malfunctions. that would be cool

I see what you're saying, but the cultists are still human beings and they have motivations for following the Rake. They aren't aware that anything they're doing is evil, and they see some benefit to their actions. What we see as an eldritch horror is to them some type of leader. Nobody's saying they'll be sane, but they still won't sound that ominous.

Yep, pretty much all of what Mike said ^^^^

Even if they're cultists they have motivations, either personal or as a group.
