Even if you can't make a continuous loop, could you put it on a fixed schedule?

I know that we want to be respectful of the MH crew's intellectual property and stuff...but it is all on the Internet for free. I think a synctube on a perpetual loop is a perfectly legitimate idea for a puzzle-type ARG.

I think a fixed schedule is brilliant. Like maybe twice a week at a certain time?

Marble Hornets is not an ARG. I get what you mean, though.

Doing a synchtube of MH, or having it on a loop, is perfectly okay, as the series is posted on YouTube and freely available to view, and synchtube is simply accessing YouTube content.

I'm pretty sure it automatically loops when it reaches the end of the playlist of videos. Only way I know to do it would be for someone to set up the channel and make the playlist and then keep it open 24/7. not sure how otherwise

Oh, just noticed this thread. I actually hosted the first synchtube marathon for us wayyyy back in season 2 with a little assistance from pravado after I had to leave halfway through.

Yes it can be set to infinite loop, however I agree that defeats the purpose of a synchtube. If we wanted I could set it up to loop through like 2 times a week or something like that. It would be nothing like usual, there would be no admin to take pause requests, and the intermissions would have to be set ahead of time. Not to mention there would be no pre-show "play whatever you want" time.

Maybe this would be solved by having more regular events, with a poll to see when the most people are free?

Anyone that just wants to watch it continuously, without the interaction, could just make a youtube playlist

But then you have people who might like to do the interaction, but can't get on when most others can.

Yes but there is absolutely no way around that. You can't please them all, and by definition if they can't be on when everyone else is, they can't interact. If they know people with their schedule, they can always set up their own synchtube.

Except that the previously mentioned solution of a continuously looping synchtube solves that entire problem.

A slightly different question...

I think either of the ideas for synchtube could work well; each has positives and negatives. It seems getting people to watch at the same time is the main difficulty, particularly with how spread out we all are

One way around this would be to have people watch aroundthe same time, but not simultaneously; for example, (British newspaper) the Guardian ran a weekly episode-by-episode blog for fans of The Wire who were re-watching the series; they did this because most people discovered it on DVD and thus couldn't talk to others watching it at the same pace. They did it to coincide with it being reshown on Fx, but many watched the episode on their DVD at some point during the week, and then showed up for the discussion.

I wondered if this might work here, as well. It obviously wouldn't be on an entry-by-entry basis, but with a little bit of thought it'd be easy enough to break the entries and TTA responses down into consecutive chunks of (roughly) similar length, with those interested viewing them in the week then meeting up to compare notes in an appropriate (?new) thread, starting at the appointed time. Almost like an "MH Book Club", if you like.

This could work alongside, or in place of a synchtube, and would have the benefit of being more inclusive for those of us in different time zones.

What do you think?

Loop AND Watch Time

Why not just loop it continuously and have a set time for people to get together for one of the loops through at a specific time each week?

Wait, if it loops continuously, then what is the point? as most of the time people won't be watching, and the entire point is to watch it with others.

This is a good idea. It is like the Entry Threads, redone for people who weren't apart of this forum when the entries were first released. You could do flashbacks. maybe 1-5 entries a week, where people can go to rehash theories or say "Ohh yeah I remember this, this adds to my theory that:" I like it. Though I would prefer a synchtube event, this would be a good way to solidify some theories and waste time between entries

I like the book club idea. We could do that as a playlist on YouTube, or just set the entry list on here. Season 1 shouldn't be restricted to 1-5 entries a week though, seein as to how short the entries were...

We should have different threads based on week maybe?
