Is MH the first series that... I've never got an answer to this, was MH the first series to introduce a proxy? (Or whatever TTA is) Since every goddamn series has this videos with all lowercase, messy title, black and white cheap effects to point out that it is a proxy nowadays
The channel is over 3 years old now, is it the first Slendy series ever created?

As far as we know, Marble Hornets is the first Slenderman series and the first proxy/TTA/whatever series

Here's my question:
Was the term proxy coined in relation to Marble Hornets?
Because if so, it's kind of a misnomer.

No, but it's a way to name them nowadays, it's better than saying ''Another TTA clone''

I go with informant. Because their main job seems to be supplying information. Even if they do suck at it.

How else would we have known that Alex celebrated his last birthday this past April?

What's the point of that, i will never understand it, those things just mess up the plot. (IF THERE IS ONE)

Sigh....
It is necessary as a plot device. Almost all horors have that strangely knowledgeable character that informs the author and protagonist about WTF is going on.
In exorcisms, it is the priest, sometimes it is the attractive and quirky new neighbor who is into weird cult stuff, sometimes it is a website, but other than collecting 8 pages in the forest, how do you expect us to know anything that happens?
If it weren't for the informants, it would just be a bunch of jump scares.
Though if the series were actual ARGs they could rely on their audience as informants. "Hey, anyone know who this tall guy is in my bedroom?" "Oh that is slendy" "Thanks subscriber, I'll go to wikipedia"
But then I guess you need to be original. Every series needs an informant, they just need an original way to do it. MH was original about it and are including their informant in the plot.
The others....meh

Well, if you want to get really, really abstract, yes you do need some way of dispensing plot information. But this really doesn't have to come down to a single character, and it certainly doesn't need to use all of the Tropes associated with ToTheArk.

It certainly doesn't make sense with his videos.

You are right, it doesn't need to come down to a single character, but it is alright if it does. What is not alright is when EVERY vlog uses that tactic. Like I said, 8 pages in the woods could work.
TTA may be confusing, but without him, MH would just be Jay sitting in his room going: "What's happening to meeeeee????"

Finding reports on the background does indeed work, but I've played a lot of games that use that device, so I personally find it rather played out.
I think it is ideal to dispense information through several different sources. Witnesses, documents, web searches, etc. Then it looks a lot less forced.
The reason why it usually comes down to the stereotypical "proxy" could be because the codes are seen as a way to heighten audience interaction, but like you said, you don't really need codes and cryptic videos to do that--all you need is E-mail.

Although MH did not invent slenderman, it was the first series and is the source of most of the stylistic elements attached to the mythos. I'm pretty sure they invented the camera distortion and visual craziness, as well as the proxy and the operator symbol. And I could be wrong about this, but I think they invented the no face aspect, I know the earliest slenderman pics on somethingawful showed him with a weird twisted face. Also I think they may have invented slendersickness and the slenderman related memory lapses. All in all I think that MH should get more credit out there for their massive contributions, I'm pretty sure that without MH the mythos would have never taken off like it has.

No, I don't think MH invented the facelessness.
But everything else you are correct about
