Facelessness was sort of like tentacles are now--some depictions had it, some didn't, but it tended to lean towards a lack of face. Most of the mental effects; amnesia, nightmares, hypnotism, etc. predate Marble Hornets, admittedly the amnesia was often of the "repressed memory" variety.

Marble Hornets is the first time I ever saw "smooth facelessness"; in most of the other images preceding Marble Hornets, I tended to see "blank feature facelessness"; that is, he had a nose and defined facial features, but it was just skin. No hair, no eyes, no nostrils, no mouth.

Marble Hornets is the first instance I personally have seen of a smooth face, but that is more than likely a consequence of the way they create their Operator rather than a conscious choice.

Actually, their older videos had facial features, and they were able to transition to smooth facelessness when they got better stuff, which is what they were going for.

So it did kind of make the facelessness...more extreme, I guess. Personally, I find the presence of vague facial features creepier.

The Operator does still have facial features as recently as Entry #43 despite being smooth for a long time before that. It looks a bit textured in #40 too.

His arms seem to vary in length as well. I figure they deliberately make his appearance fluctuate from time to time.

Just to clarify: The concept of a "proxy" was taken from Marble Hornets, based on the assumption that the Operator acts through people like ToTheArk or Tim in his Masky persona/fugue state. However, as Marble Hornets has progressed, it seems more likely (at least to me) that the characters seen as "proxies" are not actually doing the Operator's bidding.

In actuality, Alex is closer to the concept of a proxy rather than what "proxies" have become in other Slender Man stories.

Oh, creepy drawings. Those preceded Marble Hornets, too.

Marble Hornets is what you might call a Trope Codifier.

Location: Potentially everywhere.

I kind of want to punch everyone who either forgets about or doesn't acknowledge Just Another Fool.

What about it? It doesn't really share a lot of Tropes with Marble Hornets, and I do believe it started afterwards.

Meh, it was good at involving the audience, but the story was lacking and ended abruptly. when he explained everything, it sounded cool, but wasn't executed well, and he acknowledged that
