Very true, but there are series that change this convention entirely. Say, in my series the Slender Man is an entity that wants to reach our world, just so it can take over a human body and have corporeal form.

I think the discovery aspect is a good take on the slender man (at leader for teenage / adult protagonists) slendy just wants to eat children. And because you just HAD to stumble into his lair with a camera, he is going to haunt you to erase his existence so he can go back to eating children. You were justbinbthe wrong place at the wrong time.

Right - I was just pointing out that those are the reasons that Lovecraft himself provides. My point is that even the father of modern science fiction never provided incredibly adequate reasoning behind his monsters, but still managed to write amazing stories. So, it's possible for series creators to do the same thing. Just food for thought.

(I seem to post in this thread A LOT.)

Something else that I would like to see, other than a decent reason for why someone is being followed by our tall eldritch horror? I'd like to see someone definitively destroy the lingering idea that the Slender Man has a weakness to water.

Ugh, I would make my own series, but I completely lack the materials and other resources required.

My brother had an idea for our series, which involved Slendy rising out of the water, a la Doctor Who, Dalek Invasion of Earth. We decided against it, since we didn't want to ruin a perfectly nice suit.

Thrift store, and also if it's just a lake or a decently clean pond (not like.. a creek because creek=sewer) and you get it dry cleaned it should be sanitized enough. Ask them to steam it if you need to... So long as you rinse it off with a water hose or something right away so that algae/whatever doesn't stick to it it should be okay...

Ok, something that is starting to peeve me off A LOT.

What is with this new "trend" in which swearing in a Slendervlog is "cool"? Because in the last three videos I watched, from three different series, they seem to think that just swearing for no reason whatsoever is a good thing to do. Like just randomly adding in swear words makes the script better.

IT DOES NOT. Not even TribeTwelve inserts expletives for no reason.

So, yes. Less swearing, please. Or, rather, less needless/unwarranted swearing.

There are a few good, active vlogs now that involve minimal/no swearing. Granted, the number isn't as large as that of the vlogs that do include 'fuck' in every sentence, but it's still something.

Eh, I think it adds to the character if they're really freaking out, but yea, sometimes using other words is stronger. For instance my project (not a SM series, but still) the character I'm playing has a pretty clean mouth but only really cusses when she's upset. On the other side, we have a character who'll be snarky/will curse a fair bit but it's when they STOP cursing and use more descriptive words/threats that you know things are really wrong.

Yeah, I think it's more how people use cursing that makes it effective. When you've got a series in which the characters are all constantly blurting out 'fuck', no matter what's going on, that's when it can get annoying.

Let me know if I'm speaking nonsense, but I'd really really like to see someone start out making a Slender Man series without making it as a Slender Man series. Stop worrying about what to do and what not to do and the 'cannon' and what's come before, what's been done and what hasn't. Write a good story, write good characters, come up with a good framing device, then and only then, start thinking about how to add Slender Man into the story/when to introduce him, etc. The best vampire, werewolf, etc stories aren't just 'a vampire story' it's a story with vampires in them.

Don't you sit there & lie to me.

Honestly, at that point, I wouldn't even bother with Slenderman. It's gonna feel tacked on.
