I wanted to know what book Phoebe Anders @pandersto is reading in her profile pic.
It's "Trickster's Queen" by Tamora Pierce. I don't know anything about the plot, but it's set in Pierce's Tortall universe.
Quote:
Tortall is a place somewhat reminiscent of the European Middle Ages, with its monarchy, court, nobility, and knights, but is otherwise a completely different world. Magic is very real and practical to Tortallans, from the common hedgewitch to the King's court mages. Religious deities are revered and often play a part in human lives , sometimes choosing humans as champions, sometimes using them to further their own purposes. Though these deities are shown as powerful beyond belief, they rely on their human instruments to shape the world.
~Taken from the wiki linked above. Emphasis added.
ETA - Just occurred to me that cats are classically defined as familiars of witches/wizards.
Also in Harry Potter land Rubeus Hagrid is the Keeper of the Key.

OMG really? that's who you think of? Not like, Stephen King {who was heavily influenced by Lovecraft's writing to become the horror author he is today. Who has written in many Lovecraftian themes into his work - "Jerusalem's Lot" being a great one, and "IT" being a MAJOR one.}
This is where I admit that although I love Lovecraftian mythos, can't read a damn story by him. The writing style just doesn't work for me, nor do the overly racist tones. VERSIONS of his work, movies of his work, "translations" of his work - I do love. I'm facinated by the mythos.

If you had only looked a bit further on that wiki page to the link about the actual book: Trickster's Queen

The essence of the Enochian system depends on the utilisation of Eighteen Calls or Keys in the Enochian language (a series of rhetorical exhortations which function as evocations), and a Nineteenth key known as the Call or Key of the 30 Aethyrs.
Maybe Thurber Wilson has something to do with these?
And Pix have you read any of the Titus Crow stories by Brian Lumley? Almost a continuation or Lovecraft. Deff worth the read

Yeah, it's totally META. Mr. Palmer's artwork is originally done by *nicktheartisticfreak on deviantart.
Sunken Dreams, The Threshold and Rhygazengoro original titles are 'dream of water', 'cosmic lurker' and 'r'lyeh' respectively.
And thanks Pixie, I was being totally lazy and just skipped past that summary.

I didn't realise he was from Maine! I think it says more about my television watching habits than anything else...
I'll bow out now, before I make more of a fool of myself!

I e-mailed them yesterday pretending offense at having not received my invitation yet. They replied in-character as if they knew me all along!
I love when PMs do that.
I am in the game!
. . . and have no idea what I should be doing. Great.

Reading the history page http://www.innsbruckacademy.org/?page_id=231 there is mention of a Gordon Lake who appeared and "new life was breathed into Innsbruck Academy" then disappeared mysteriously.
I wonder if he was Lovecraft's Professor Lake: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/At_the_Mountains_of_Madness#Professor_Lake
Not sure I'm going to have time to play this what with RL and my own game getting in the way. Definitely looks interesting though.
ETA: Probably not related but interesting all the same:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keeper_of_the_Keys

That's a good detail!
Also note that there's another email address I didn't see anyone mention here yet. I don't konw if it's going to be in game or not, but it was listed on their website and might be useful: ircSPLAT innsbruckacademy.org. It's for their Technology Department!
While on the subject of technology, I see a lot of links in there to what seem to be legitimate library resources on the Library page. Can someone confirm that? There also now seems to be an email log in prompt on their web page for "Squirrelmail", which was the same sort of email offered at my actual college, University of River Falls. Nuts!
On the admission forms they posted up there's a few other interesting things as well: another email address adminSPLAT innsbruckacademy.org, which I presume is associated with applications exclusively, as well as an odd question at the end of the application (Write about a time you have overcome the unknown)
Lastly there appears to be either an IG character or someone who is playing along on twitter, @fraglordjoe
Also, I'm playing in this. Hello everyone![/b]

*snicker*
I got a response about volunteering for alumni weekend a few days ago but have been too busy to respond/post as of yet:

Hello!
We would love to have you as a volunteer for this summer. If you could
send your resume as a pdf, that would be preferable. We will keep you
informed as more is decided about the running of this event.

V,
I will definitely forward your request to the alumni committee. If you
have access to a scanner, sending your resume as a pdf would be preferred.

I guess they don't really want us to fax them stuff... yet. Anyone have any suggestions on what to put on my resume?

Email to irc My email to the irc email address, okay a little aggressive but just trying to create a reaction.

I've recently read on your website:
"Distractions have been removed from campus by the Internet Resource Center, who have erected powerful firewalls and website blocks over addicting websites such as the social media resource Facebook."
Do you not find removing access from the student body handicaps their creative ideas, some would say that is a somewhat facist attitude to one's students. Their minds should open not closed.

ETA: I've also asked questions on the admin email regarding Gordon Lake and the Keeper of the Key (Head Janitor apparently), no information regarding Lake so far although they seem somewhat curious as to why I am interested in Gordon Lake.
I found the bulk of the information of the website to be a lot of rope with no ends, so I decided to hand them some of my own, last email to admin below:
Quote:
A. Trostani,
Just trying to get an idea why Mr. Lake may have disappeared mysteriously, I wondered whether he had visited the South Pole for instance.
I've also heard a rumor that 13 years ago the school was used for recruitment into some sort of cult, any truth in that rumor? Perhaps Mr. Lake was involved.
Can you give any information on: Samantha Grey on "Seeking Otherness" lecture or perhaps a contact email.

ETA2: I noticed that the website does not give a location of where the actual academy is however their PDF forms state: Bethel, VT
So perhaps: New England, Bethel, VT, United States
- came across thier facebook page which is odd since their tech guys ban facebook.

No beds in a dorm?!?

Bedding means sheets & blankets, not beds themselves. Standard for dorms.

I don't know what they do in the UK, but it is 100% normal for you to need to bring your own sheets and blankets and pillows for dorm rooms. It isn't "being cheap" ROFL The fact that the rooms include other amenities is pretty "uncheap" and semi-unusual.

Thread drift (help fight continental drift)...
Got anything new other than our failed attempts to illicit useful information from the IGs.
