[SPEC]the artifact, endgame speculation

well, Team Durga did it! they stopped the Artifact's countdown, creating a system-wide EM pulse that will undoubtably alert the Covenent in the process.

But the questions remain:
WHAT was the artifact? and what would have happened if they didn't stop it? WHO made it? the Covies or the Forerunner?

if it was Covie, a temporal bomb maybe?
if it was Forerunner...... Halo activator?

unfortunately the endgame didn't give us any NEW info on this cosmic McGuffin.... maybe in the actual video game itself?

This isn't the endgame. It says on the front page, recipe8 and the 404 that there will be a transmission on the 4th. We might get some new artifact info then, although since nobody in the future knows what it is either, I doubt it'll be anything substantive.

I would consider this extremely bad form on the part of the PMs. ILB should be a self-contained story. As it currently stands I'm not convinced any good at all came from the successful Chawla base raid. Sure, it was exciting, but what did it accomplish. Did all of the enhottening and puzzle solving serve SOLELY to alert the Covenant in 25xx to earth's location?

I want more than just "well it stopped a mystery timer.. and nobody likes a mystery timer, right? Oh look, Standish getting his comeuppance!"<PM runs away>

Also I want Sophia and Kamal smootching.

That is all.

You have obviously just started playing the game..... I have enjoyed myself and the ARG ilovebees. Now I am ready to play Halo 2.

Side Note: I don't think The Live Training Exercise is a early playable Halo2 event. That just sounds tooooo good to be true. Kinda like the dumb nuts who said SPDR=Single Player Demo Release.

Don't get your hopes up..... We might have to do something to unlock 1 of 4 wav file transmissions. Hence the 4 different locations.

I doubt that ILB nor Halo 2 will deal with it specifically as the Artifact That Alerted The Covenant To Earth - perhaps the MC uses it to something, I dunno.

There's no need for 'new' information on the artifact. We know its something that a bunch of people thought they disabled. We also know they were mistaken, and there's currently a very angry race of aliens who're going to cause a big ruckus on Earth.

Bungie never answers all the questions - often relying on the game the puzzles proceed to answer a few.

Welcome to the point of I Love Bees.

For all we know, the artifact could have activated the remaining Halos of the galaxy if it finished counting down. Or it could have been a more localized version of a Halo firing. Or it could have done something else nasty. Who knows.

Whatever it was supposed to do, I prefer what happened here over what it could have done if it finished.

For those of you who don't know what the Halos do, quick explanation. Big spoiler for anybody who has never played Halo.
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
On Halo 04 (the one in Halo: Combat Evolved) there were flood. Little parasitic life forms. They infect any stentient being with enough neural capacity. Both humans and covenant. They are extremely difficult to defeat, and the only way to truly defeat them is to remove their food supply. The Halos were designed to wipe the entire galaxy clean of all sentient life with the ability to support the flood.

Sooo... since you seem to see all and know all, what do you expect to see from the transmission on the 4th?

I imagine that We will deal with the artifact in Halo 2.

the artifact is probably shaped in a round circle with a hole..like a halo..this is probably how the halo name will stay true..artifact=halo

I'm not concerned about tying up the artifact loose ends... the game can directly continue off the plot that ilovebees left as it relates to the artifact... in a sense, ilb is totally contained regarding that. We know nothing more about the artifact than we did when it started... but we know now how it got to earth. So, whether one followed the ilovebees arg or not, if Halo 2 starts out with the covenant attacking earth because they are seeking an artifact, all they need to know is that it's on earth... ilovebees isn't necessary for the plot... but for those who did follow it - man did it ever explain a whole lot and deepend the plot!

My only concern are the plot points that are still loose, that likely don't have any tie in to Halo 2 - for example Kamal and Sophia, among other ends... that's the kind of closure I'm expecting to get at one or more updates before 11/9...

anything that can be explained within Halo 2 - I can wait, and understand Bungie making cliffhangers... but even bungie won't simply drop a thread in the middle of an unanswered question and never explain it... that's simply bad writing... though they most expectedly will leave holes to be explained come Halo 2

It's possible that the signal is part of the function of the artifact. Before burning out the com system for a star system, it uses that com system to send out a beacon signal to the Covenant - so that they'll know where the artifact just detonated.

Makes sense, doesn't it?

It could also explain why Earth isn't just flat-out glassed. Earth's fleet knows about the signal, but still has comms, so they have time to pull together a last-ditch picket.

I don't see and know all - I simply guess. I'd have to say that a good portion of my guesses have turned out to be right. I was off with the 24th thing, for example.

As to your question, however... I'm guessing the following things concerning the 4th transmission:

1) It is unlikely it is ILB specific. Given this and things of that nature I've seen elsewere, I believe that the 4th is not an ILB-specific event. Since the event is not ILB specific, there would be little point to put ILB-specific 'transmissions' in events. Bungie knows people want to play Halo 2, and thats why they are comming.

2) I'd call this the Anti-1. The 'transmission' may in fact be ILB specific, but will make sense to gamers who had not played the game yet.

3) Any transmission will not solve all the answers. If anything, it will add more.

In a tiny nutshell, thats what I my gut says - A 'transmission' that doesnt explain everything an ILB player will want to explain, and may mean more to someone interested in Halo 2 itself more than an ILB fan.

I don't have to know what the Artifact does to be happy with ILoveBees... but I do want to know what happens to Rani, Durga/Melissa, Sophie, and Herzog...

But I expect that will come with:

!transmit truth
time 11/04

So I'm waiting (im)patiently until then,
-Tar

See you 11/4!
