That seems to be what's indicated. So having an unbroken line of seven sons is important - a daughter isn't just ignored, but actually ruins it.

I was just looking at the reward clipping, and the thing that kind of struck me was the girl that is missing's name is "Beatrice Singleton". Singleton, obviously, from Reed Singleton (SPEC: Maybe an ancestor). The Beatrice part, though, at first kind of gnawed at me as sounding familiar. Finally I figured why. "Beatrice Doe" was the name on the first picture we found drawn by Ann Starling.

Not sure if there's any significance here, but I thought I'd throw it out there.
