Once more unto the breach dear friends

I feel somewhat voyeuristic in the way i've been silently following this amazing story for so many exciting weeks, but i've finally decided to attempt to make a contribution. I am an incredibly lucky guy because i live a total of like 5 minutes from woodfield. I could easily walk to the exercise if i so desired.

I've been reading some of the posts here and have seen that a lot of kids are coming from rather far away and are looking for places to chill or meet up before this little exercise goes down. Since i live so close i might be able to help a few of you out. If anyone maybe wants to meet up at my apartment and possibly grab some dinner before we head over i'd totally be down for that. PM me if you're interested.

Okay, we have a LOT of pages of discussion here. I have a proposition: I think we should prepare a one-page "flyer" of sorts for all people coming to the Chicago session to print up and bring with themselves to kind of wrap up all necessary information.

I'll be willing to draft it up, perhaps anybody could PM me with ideas on good solid info that we could use to make peoples trips and days easier.

Here's what Im thinking:

Schedule reminders (stuff from 404, popular decisions on before&after things to do)
Sketch map of the main highways and local navigation(like they put on restauarant menus and stuff, you know, the really simple little vicinity maps.)
Quick directions from the nearby interstates.
A cell phone number or two of local people willing to provide assistancec if people get lost.
edit: Ooh, and a "dont forget to bring" list. Everybody forgets something on a trip.

Any other ideas?

This is a good idea - I've already put up a map of the area in hopes that it would be useful for coordination, but haven't got much feedback. I think people have been focusing on Sunday's axons.

I thought about the police/mall security as a "side effect" of the location and have come to the conclusion that there are going to be hundreds people hanging around the area late at night for this event - so if we set up in the parking lot, we shouldn't have any problems with some good clean fun.

Unless someone has a major problem with mexican food, I would really like to suggest we meet up at Chipotle. Like I said before, it's the closest restraunt and they can accomadate a 20+ reservation. I will make the reservation, but would like to know via PM who will show up around 4.

Favor from the goers of the trip

You all mentioned earlier that a starbucks is over there right next to the meetup spots for the axon. For all of us unfortuante to be able to go, I was wondering if anyone was going to bring a laptop and make reports from the starbucks (since it is a free wireless hotspot) telling us what is going on, or showing us some pictures. That would rock alot! Very Happy

Yeah, and I would like to echo the call to either narrow down the conversation, or start a new thread or two, to pooling final resources: People who need places to sleep, people who need rides, polls on places to meet up before and after....

Can you re-link that map? Was it a sketch, or a mapquest readout?

No the woodfield police are police and they dont take kindly to gatherings. I also dont expect HUNDREDS of people. Maybe a hundred.

Oh and here is an example of how the police act around streets of woodfield, my friend is in a band and he decided to go there with this acoustic guitar to promote a show they were having, he passed out some fliers and then sat down on a bench and by the first strum of the guitar two cops showed up and told him he had to stop or they would arrest him.

Go to page 15 of this thread. (I don't know how to make a link to the specific post.)

I'll bring my laptop and digital camera. I'm sure we'll be able to post some updates!

Is this the "woodfield mall security" or Schamburg Police Department?
I'm going to make some phone calls about this tommorow.[/i]

Creepy...

[OT] Completely irrelevant, but is anyone else watching Law & Order: SVU?

The cops just solved an acronym, which led them to a payphone, where there was a note with military time revealing when the payphone would get an incoming call.

Creepy...

Man, I love that show. In fact, re-runs on USA take up a lot of my time too!

"Woodfield Mall Security", I believe. Also... They all have cowboy hats!!! No horses though, but they like to sit around in front of the Starbucks.

Well, not that anyone really cares, but I'm out. I can pull together the money, or the transportation to go. My car's been in the shop for 3 and a half months now, and it won't be done in time to make it. So everyone have fun, and report in on what goes on damnit!!!

WOOT! Looks like I'm going to be able to make the trip after all. Despite being completely out of sick time and annual leave, a well placed school event might just get me out of work for a couple of days without having to lie about it. I just have to leave out a whole lot of the truth (like the fact that this school event will only take 30 minutes and not the 2 days I'm taking off for it Twisted Evil ) Man, if I'd have put as much effort into some of the puzzles as I put into getting off for the Training Exercises, I might have been able to help you guys out a little!
