I don't think it's a plot hole....maybe the tunnel wasn't as significant during that time as it is now... (or this could prove that the significance of the tunnel is more debatable than we thought)

The problem is that he claims to remember something he could not have remembered, as it comes from the seven months that he does not recollect and it is not on film, which is the only way he is able to know about any of it. That has nothing to do with the significance or lackthereof of the tunnel.

Well, you can sort of see in the video that he reached the other side. When he's chasing masky, the side of the tunnel he ran in through had a big pile of rocks in front of it (he tripped on them) and on the other side of the tunnel you can see thick vegetation. At the end when he's sitting there he's sitting on the side of the tunnel with the thick vegetation and the lack of rocks, so you can surmise that he passed through. He might've just cut out the part where he walked through because he was just lurching through tiredly? Anyway, he was more than halfway through the tunnel when it cut out.

It is kind of weird that he was talking about the event as if he remembered it though. How can he be sure he's only been over there once if he still doesn't actually remember the missing 7 months? He could've been over there and just not been filming at the time. Or he lost the tape.

Because he has the video evidence and he knows what the area looks like, based off all the things you just said

I thought about that, but based on what little we saw of his surroundings at the end there, I couldn't really tell whether or not it was the same side he had gone in on.

The pile of rocks is at a pretty steep angle so we probably wouldn't be able see it with the angle the camera was at.

No, I'm 100% certain that Jay was sitting at the "back" side of the tunnel in Entry #50. Watch all of the videos which show the tunnel, and you'll notice that the each side has some distinct features:

Front Side:
- Rocks outside the opening.
- Almost always puddles on the "floor" of the tunnel.
- Trees at least 15 feet away from the tunnel opening. No vines.

Back Side:
- No rocks.
- "floor" appears mostly dry.
- Vines, almost immediately outside of the tunnel opening.

Those vines are directly behind Jay when he's sitting outside the tunnel. It's the backside.

My pet theory is that Masky acts as a sort of "key" to the tunnel. Jay was able to pass through safely because he was following Masky. And if the video "noentry" shows that you can't pass through the tunnel, then "Entry" shows that you can. In Entry, we see Tim seizure and become Masky, and it's implied that he went to Rosswood. In the following video, #62, Jay finds Masky, gets attacked by him, and blacks out. I think we can assume that Hoody used Masky to get through the tunnel that night, or something like that.

I think it's pretty clear in entry #50 that Jay makes it to the other side -- the area he sits down in looks pretty different from the side we normally see. It's hard to tell for sure because the ends of the tunnel are always overexposed, but it looks like that, and Jay's claim in #64 confirms it. He would know for sure what the other side of the tunnel looks like regardless of the memory wipe, because his eyes wouldn't be overexposed like a camera; he can see the other side of the tunnel even if he hasn't been there in season 3.

If he already made it to the other side, that makes the buildup to "what's on the other side" rather anticlimactic.

I don't see how.

Quoting Jay: "I wasn't really paying attention, I was chasing after you at the time"

There could still be anything there.
From what it looks like in the video, Jay scanned the area for Tim, sat down for a few seconds, and immediately went back.

Exactly. If it were that big of a deal, you wouldn't think he'd go, "Huh. I don't really see anything. I'm gonna head back."

Unless it's not literally what's on the other side that's important, but that the tunnel is some sort of Operator-controlled portal to the Operator Dimension. Then that could get real exciting.

I feel that is also weak, because if The Operator could control it, it could just go "lol there's nothing on the other side." No need to show up to try to stop people from coming through.

Someone mentioned that they don't expect The Operator to stop every little thing that comes through. Neither do I. I think it's reasonable to assume that animals avoid it, & that people are very rare. The only people we've seen at the tunnel were either specifically seeking it out or following someone like Alex or Tim.

Or how about people just read my post in this topic because it offers a possibility that decently explains this.

I did read it, I was quite plainly rejecting it. The part about "Masky is the key" is convoluted & based on nothing at all. Moreover, it doesn't explain anything that I cannot.
