Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The secret level stuff is crazy. Really goes to show the effort that was put into this game. Starting to come around to the "Charles is the Proxy" theory, though I'd believe either way at this point. I had myself convinced that Charles and CR were the same for simplicity's sake, but that's not looking to be the case, either. Really enjoyed the way the story was presented, though. Leaves a lot of room for interpretation.

By the way, the game was recently put on GOG (http://www.gog.com/gamecard/slender_the_arrival) and is temporarily on sale for $7.50, though it bothers me to see the game getting torn apart in the user reviews. I'd be willing to bet most of them haven't even played it and they just give it 1 or 2 stars out of spite. I'm not trying to say this game is perfect, because it's not. I'd say it's at about 3.5 to 4 stars for me. There are plenty of things to fault this game for, but to even suggest any sort of lack of effort on the dev's part offends me. Love and passion was clearly put into this game, perhaps to the point that they overlooked the repetitiveness of the actual objectives and gameplay. But just as The Eight Pages served as a solid foundation for this game, this game could easily serve as a further solidification of a base for a third game in the series.

I saw those reviews. It's exactly as one person said

"The demographic for this game is fans of the Slenderman mythos. I am not a fan of it, so I did not find it fun"

If you're not a fan of the mythos then why are you buying a Slender game to begin with?

If you're going to talk about details pertaining to the secret level that aren't how to get in, use spoiler tags >_>

Why? It's not like it adds a crap ton more to the story and it doesn't really spoil anything.

It's not even worth giving a detailed review,

Yeah. These reviews are dumb. Some of them raise good points, but most are just shouts of "graphics" & complaints that make no sense, like "game-breaking bugs," which you shouldn't have if you keep your game up to date.

Although, even the good reviews on other sites don't seem to talk about the plot.

I just don't want any surprises ruined for when I somehow manage to get into it. Probably kidding myself there, though.

And besides the fact that graphics aren't really important... what are they even talking about? The graphics are stunning.

Although to be fair, even after I patched the game, it then started crashing any time I picked up a note. It took me a while to get the game neither freezing up or crashing, due to the patcher at first messing up the game and then not actually patching when I opened it. Not to mention, a finished game really shouldn't have as huge a bug as it did, patcher or not.

Okay, now I'm 96% sure the proxy IS Kate, for the following reason:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
At the final room where you find CR's burned body, you see all the writings and stuff, one of them is from Kate and it says:

This is something I have to do
Whispers from my only real friend

Who is (I can't read this one, I think it says "Yomi" or "You") know
-line of small text which I can't read-
For me to be free

Here is the video: http://youtu.be/6_jBcxxmb-Q?t=23m34s

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I believe that was written by CR himself. "This is something I have to do" seems to be him speaking of the fact that he's about to burn himself alive and (presumably) take Kate with him, due to him insanely believing that the Slender Man only appears to those who know about him. Thus, by killing himself and Kate, he believes he will "banish" Slendy from the world.

I'm still in the "proxy is Charles Matheson" camp, and I'm probably going to stay there. It just doesn't seem to make sense, timeline-wise, for Kate to be the proxy. CM's final note appearing outside of the mine is irrefutable evidence for me.

Two things I've noticed:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. The shards of glass from Kate's window are inside her room, not on the grass outside. Did something stop her from jumping out? It'd explain how she was able to get up a mountain with CR. Personal theory is proxy Charles clambering up the side of her house and smashing through the window to get to her. Sweet dreams.

2. Lauren arrives at the house after Kate's window is broken, yet before the backyard gate is opened and Kate is heard screaming. Were Kate and CR still close by enough to need to open the gate to get away?

I'm not sure how much of that isn't just oversight, but...

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
1. You could handwave that some of the shards would fall back into the room. Can't really explain why there isn't any on the lawn, but it is strongly implied that she jumped, & there is no real evidence of anything else.

2. I think Slenderman opens doors. It's the only reasonable explanation for why half of the doors of Kate's home are left wide open.

About Charles, I have to ask a few questions:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I just have to ask for your input on the height of the proxy, & whether the note is from Charles Jr. or Charles Sr.? Those are 2 points I'm stuck on.
[/spoiler]

The height of the proxy is subjective and since we don't know Laurens height we can't know the proxy. Also the note could fit with either. But I think it was Jr who, after slendernapped as a kid, never fit in to the "game" of life. Also the breaking of the 4th wall in that letter was very proxy like

I don't know, I think height is a pretty objective thing. There's got to be some field object to compare it to. Additionally, though we don't know Lauren's exact height--though I'd say it's however she stacks up to the gate on the loading screen for The Eight Pages--it's rather unlikely that a grown man would be as tall as her, unless he was malnourished.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
One reason I suggest the father is because he talks about losing everything he loves (such as his son) & his job. Also, it's sort of odd to have a missing poster of this kid if he's, you know, not missing anymore.

In regards to the height discussion (OOG?):

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
I'm majoring in game design, and one thing that's important in character/environment modeling is to have everything in the scene scaled correctly. To do this accurately, the character's height is used as a mental reference. Most developers typically model their characters at around 6ft, in relation to the environment around them.

I don't know if this could be anyone's "canon" height, but it's something.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The proxy's short height does make me think twice about it being Charles. Although considering he's presumably been tormented by Slenderman for most of his life, maybe he really was malnourished.

We also don't know his age, could be in his teens.

I don't know what his job was, but assuming he worked in the mindes, I would imagine he had to have been at least 18.
