I think that was supposed to be the removed audio from one of the entries Jay posted before, the one where Alex was running through those fields at night and kept seeing the Operator.

 		That voice at the end of the audio that makes that sort of vague growling noise, does that sink up with one of the Operator encounters?

 		What if Alex didn't burn these tapes? What if they were so affected by the Operator's presence that they melted? In other words, what if the "distortions" physically damage the material of the tapes (not just mess with what they record)? If so, there could be some major Operator encounters on these tapes.

 		We know that fire has often been associated with the Operator, but we don't have anything else about the taps that points to that being likely.

We were told directly that Alex initially wanted to burn the tapes.

 		So if it is the same hole as in Entry 21, does it mean inanimated objects can cause distortion too? Interesting... unless the tapes werent there back then. They could have been at Jay's apartment during the fire, and a certain hooded man could have saved them before they had totally melted.

This was my first thought. But then I remember the tapes caused distortion way before the arson... Crying or Very sad

Because of Jay being an unreliable narrator during most of season 2. He only remembers what's on the tapes, and if he did something particularly vile, there's a good chance he destroyed the evidence.

 		If he REALLY didn't want to show anyone those tapes, I doubt he would have said "This one might still work, only the case is melted".

They stumbled across the hole and there was an X, it's clear enough on the image, you confused a bird with a Mini-Hoody
