Subject: Enough's Enough

Date: 17 May 2003

Dale,

Please, Dale, enough's enough. How long do you you think we can allow this to go on?

Despite your pretense at "hiding out", we know you are here, somewhere near Aglaura. We received reported sightings a few times in the last week or so, from people who know you fairly well, so there's no reason to believe they are mistakes. But you're not a fugitive, legally, even though I know for certain that both the Aglaura Police and Fire Departments would like to speak to you about the fire at your home a couple of weeks ago. And now, with this incident at my home last night, the urgency of the Police Department's desire to talk with you is sure to increase.

So no, you're not technically a fugitive, yet. What you are, though, is negligent. Negligent in your duties and responsibilities to your position as an Aglaura Councilman. As you are well aware, you missed our regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday May 13th, as well as two emergency meetings called by Mayor Dobbs and the Borough Council over the last two weeks. In both cases, Mayor Dobbs and the Council attempted to notify by telephone and certified mail, as required in the by-laws of our charter. Your absence at both meetings, coupled with missing the regular Council meeting, places your position as a Councilman in jeopardy, and allows the Council to formally question your ability to continue. I intend to present a motion to do just that this Tuesday, May 20th, at another emergency Council meeting called by Mayor Dobbs. As required, you will receive your formal notification of this meeting by telephone and certified mail on Monday, May 21st. I urge you to attend this meeting, so that we may put this unfortunate sequence of events behind us and move ahead with the business of governing this fine town.

On a personal note, you have friends here, Dale. But your continued irrational behavior may be doing irreparable damage. Please think about it, before it's too late.

Subject: Your Lack Of Response

Date: 17 May 2003

Dale,

Your lack of response wounds me, old friend. As bullets, blades, and these bothersome investigators cannot.

Each day the stakes change, yet my offer still stands. Meet me at Empty Threats sometime, but it must be soon. As the thread of fate grows taut, it becomes ever more tempting for the blade of Morta. Call the girl I mentioned to you before, Angie, and make arrangements with her. She will know what to do when you call. She's a very bright girl.

If you continue to ignore my invitation and choose to forget our previous relationship, I may have some ways to refresh your memory.

These dates are oddly wrong, suggesting that Monday is the day after Tuesday.

I don't see any puzzle, but it's certainly a deliberate mistake.
Tuesday 20th is the correct date, so the 21st should be a Wednesday, not a Monday.

It's also a term used by Mafiosi to signify silence iirc. Permanent silence.. If you catch my drift.

As a note, HOC VOLUERUNT means "he wished for it". Roughly translated
it means "he got what he wanted" or "they got what they deserved". It is
usually associated with Julius Caesar in his speech after the battle of

correction

Willingham (and the PM) discovered the mistake. E-mail to Dale today:

Dale,

I just wanted to correct a minor error in the e-mail message I sent you yesterday. Apparently in my haste and fatigue from being up almost the entire night before, I inserted the wrong date for when you would be receiving your official notification for the emergency Council meeting called by Mayor Dobbs for Tuesday May 20th. As required, you will receive your formal notification of this meeting by telephone and certified mail on Monday, May 19th. not May 21st as I originally indicated. My apologies for any confusion this may have caused.

Unless I missed something (which is very probable), who is supposed to answer his phone and who is to sign for the certified letter and at what place? Isn't Dale in hiding?

I think Dale has made his "return" to the town (he went to see Phyllis along with Sam).

Yeah, his house is gone so maybe they will send the letter to his office or to Sam's? Maybe Dale has a cell phone?

Maybe it's in the script? (that's how my husband will explain inconsistencies in movies & tv). Cool

Dale,

At last, you see fit to reply. Not like I asked, but it's a start.

I appreciate the fact that you still have arrangements to make but I like your idea. This Monday, the "Memorial Day" holiday, seems like a perfect day for us to meet, doesn't it?

I look forward to your next message.
