Personally I think several people overreacted way to quickly here. We now live in a fast paced world and we need to wait sometimes for things to catch up and proper responses to be acted on first. In short patients is a required necessity that is being forgotten in today's world by everyone.

ARGs are not for everyone. ARGs are for enjoyment, patient, and sharing people. If you can not follow this simple aspect, ARGs may not be for you.

Let us all take a step back with a deep breathe and the continue forward with our fellow ARGers and enjoy the games made for us.

first off, total because we already totally discussed the "explination" {seriously, the thread was only 2 pages....}

Secondly, the disgust about this from my point has less to do with the "game" and more to do with the despicable company as a whole.

"ARGs are not for everyone" has *nothing* to do with the discussion at hand. And what's more, we at UF are not the only ones discussing it, nor are those of us here who find this type of behavior - the entire company tactics, not just this little "game" {which BTW was never an ARG} - deplorable the only ones who feel so.

Meta discussion, here as well as on FB & Twitter, is a positive thing, even if it gets a bit touchy sometimes. Without it, people don't learn.

Most of his facebook page is devoted to Zombie attacks, there are far more bad taste merchandise out there than what this guy offers and I see nobody complaining about it. Apart from you Pixiestix.

His products on Cafe Express seem a little odd and his explanation on his site does not ring true, his main site is still up. When you compare his facebook page and his site it all seems more like fiction than reality. Maybe it was a gamejack of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps.

But on the whole I agree with the thebruce the whole thing is an over-reaction, the guy just had poor timing what with that explosion in Texas as well.

This is a real, albeit new, company. They have been hiring on legit sites for quite a while. Companies of this type are not unusual, they exist & use the same scare tactics {just not normally viral camps}. The "zombie attack" stuff while seeming out of place actually isn't - many survivalists {unfortunately} believe it could happen. Scare tactics are scare tactics, and a new company has to hit every base.

When I refer to what he's selling, I mean the couple thousand dollars worth of "preparedness" - not the cafepress stuff. His main site is still up because it's not a game, and not in that TINAG sort of way. He took down the puzzle, not his business.

As for the complaining about the company, most of that discussion was with other members of the ARG community on twitter & FB today after someone posted an article about it. While I am certainly the most vocal here, I am not alone {I will not be calling people out, if they choose not to post that's their choice}.

ETA: I wish to emphasize - while the viral was distateful, I again don't think he did it as a *response* the the bombings - that was unfortunate timing that he simply took advantage of at first. Did he do the right thing in pulling it down, yes *eventually*. Am I harping on the viral, no, I'm harping on the fact that his business is scummy.

Was he trying to make a buck? Yes.
Was his timing all wrong? Yes
Was he correct to pull it back? Yes
Will people still bust his balls? Yes. That (fortunately) is also the "American Way".

My advice live on top of a mountain with an excellent broadband package, stock up on toilet paper and white doves for recon. Make sure the house has a cellar at least 50 metres straight down. Invest in a boat or better still a submarine. The only question left is: Can Zombies swim?
