I should note that I only ever invoked Word of Trosephim as supporting evidence. Sometimes, authors do lie. I don't think it's very likely given the context of the statement, but it is certainly possible.

It is also possible that the baseline theory is essentially correct, but with a few flaws, for instance The Operator may react to Alex's anger, but not be (clearly) caused by it.

Oh, I still think it's a good theory (and I still believe Alex is evil Twisted Evil ), but I agree that if the creators have made a statement, it's likely true; they don't strike me as the sort to deliberately mislead. (And however unreliable J may be as a narrator, Troy is not. Wink )

In that sense, continuing to debate it seems silly.

Alex may be evil, but TO isn't a product of anything from Alex. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to explain the multitude of times TO has appeared around Jay when Alex was nowhere around. You could make the argument "Well Alex was around somewhere" but that's stretching it. And even if Alex did have to be in the general area, then how the hell would TO appear on camera?? unless he's some magical manifestation of Alex's emotions (again, a stretch)

I've been thinking about the whole Alex is evil and season 1 is his "movie"(deliberately deceptive)...and I've got a conundrum. Specifically, I can't figure out the end of Season 1.

Let's remember how it goes down: Jay receives a tape in the mail depicting Alex living with Amy, and The Operator appears again, with a "HELP" message edited into the end of the tape. So Jay takes off to help Alex.

Now, here's the thing. We know now that, by this time, Alex had already:

1) Sacrificed/Had murdered several of his friends.
2) Burned the tapes in the distortion hole.
3) Given Jay a series of tapes which include him lying about certain people being "gone" when in fact Alex led them to their dooms.

So, what exactly is going on here? Was Amy another sacrifice? Did Alex intentionally have her captured by The Operator JUST so that he could initiate Season 2? Presumably Alex's intentions for initiating Season 2 were both to throw Jay off the scent--by leading him on a wild goose chase to help him find Amy, he'd prevent Jay from discovering that he(Alex) was not so innocent in Season 1--and perhaps to enlist Jay's help in finding and killing Tim.

So, my question is, was Alex EVER invested in saving Amy? Because the "Alex is good, Operator kidnaps Amy, Alex agrees to work with Operator" narrative simply doesn't match up with the timeline.

The thing is, we don't actually know this. The only friends we've seen him attack have been Jay & Tim. Both of whom are still alive.

True, you could say he sacrificed Seth and Brian, but there's nothing saying it was a sacrifice. Could have been a case of Seth and Brian being taken by TO and Alex either being allowed to live or he got away both times
