Grumple it should be noted that they had a $500 budget for S1. S2 and S3 have MUCH higher budgets. So it's not "next to nothing"

I suppose that is true, now that you mention it. I guess it's that it still seems to have that shoestring budget feel. At what point did they get into bed with Kirill?

Kinda funny to think this takes a budget. I'd just gather up some friends, have a camera with me and do the editing and effects on my computer after.

I see someone doesn't know how stuff works....Of course it takes a budget. Driving to multiple locations, the hotel stays for those (if they're a bit from home), the NECESSARY hotel stays plot-wise. Not only that, but there's a noticeable difference in camera quality over time, means they got new camera(s). How does that NOT take a budget?

They claim they're using the same camera, just different uploading procedures. At least in Season 2 when things started to go HD, that's what they said.

Oh ok my bad. But still on everything else they had to pay for.

Personally, I've never thought of Marble Hornets as particularly scary. It has its moments, but overall, I think I would classify it as mystery over horror.

I'm also predictably skeptical of Troy's conclusion of where the complaints come from. I've mentioned before that I've marathoned Seasons 1 & 2, & the pacing of 2 still felt off to me. Better, but still off.

Also, I can't imagine watching Season 1 & treating it like a move. The "opening scene" would be, what, like 10 minutes of Jay watching disjointed tapes? How the Hell is that not "weird pacing"?

I am just a fan of dense plots to begin with, & hold the belief that they should get denser as the climax approaches. That said, I don't think that Marble Hornets should have too much happening in one entry. Just, like someone else said, maybe every 3 or 4 entries could really benefit from being combined with the next one. Also, I've said before, danger should be increasing, not decreasing.

Depends on what you find scary. I'm not scared of it anymore, but that's because I got desensitized to it after watching it for long enough (watching it outdoors in the dead of night recently revived some of that old fear, which was nice). Like I've said before, to me it hearkens back to the paranoia one sometimes feels when they think they've heard or seen something out of the corner of their eye, but they're not completely sure. We know that nothing could possibly be there, that nothing should be there, but in Alex's case, something is there.

Agreed, season 2's pacing isn't as good as season 1's, which actually flows really well from one entry to the next.

If the first few entires literally showed Jay watching the tapes on a screen I'd agree with you, but the way I see it is, we're watching the tapes, not Jay. Jay's already seen them. There's no significant aesthetic difference in the presentation between footage Jay recorded himself and footage he obtained from Alex or other sources. In all cases we're shown what Jay deems important or noteworthy, often times bookended with his white text commentary. It's because of this consistency that even though we start off watching dated footage, it doesn't throw off the pacing or make it awkward to watch all in one sitting.

If it were a Hollywood movie it would be 10-20min of Jay watching the tapes on screen and us watching him. As you mentioned the text, it makes the world of difference. If it were a movie, we'd see Jay's reactions first hand, but with MH it's like Jay has had a little time to process what was going on (as much as you could anyways) and give a thought out opinon (at least as much as Jay could Laughing ).

MH kinda spoon feeds you information so to speak and it's a lot easier to sort out. Hollywood movies would just through everything at you at once.

I don't know if I could stand the voiceover that would have to accompany J's actions: I know that weird shit has happened to me in Rosswood before in broad daylight, but dammit, I need to go back again in the dark!

I feel that I should mention how I, like some others, miss Jay's "expositions" at the beginning of each entry. I can't place my finger on it, but they just make things feel...different. In a good way.

Makes it feel more humanized and slowed down to me. With the text missing it feels like Jay rushed to put the stuff up on YouTube and like he just wants everything over with ASAP.

Well... If I were Jay, I'd want all this over with ASAP. He's merely putting it up for documentation purpases now, even though he's shown a propensity for getting hacked. 1-2-3-4 is NOT a good password, JAY!

Could be that now he's just starting to figure that he might get skee-bopped before this is all over, so he's not bothering with expositional text as much and just wants to put the footage up as quickly as possible.

Kinda what I meant. The whole thing of MH was Jay documenting everything going on and letting us know/showing us what was going on. Now it feels more rushed in terms or "Ok, I gotta get this up ASAP" and move on to the next thing.

Perhaps I can revive this thread, as it appears many people tire of entry quality being discussed in the entry threads.

So, here goes. Entry #74 was pretty good. Jay looking so out of it and hunched over when Tim arrived back at the hotel was a nice and creepy sight. The entry also made #73 better in hindsight. I wasn't really feeling the sense of urgency from Hoody running out of pills, maybe because all the entry really did was raise questions but now I feel that sense of urgency for Jay, Tim and Hoody.

But there is a problem I have with #74 and it's quite a big one. We heard Tim talking about how out of it Jay had been, about how he didn't even seem to know where or who he was... but we didn't get to see it. Ever since #72 ended I had been looking forward to seeing Jay in such a state, preferably with TO dropping by every now and then to give him a spook but it never happened. They decided to tell rather than show. It makes sense for Tim to not have filmed it, nice guy that he is but they could've had it filmed by someone else, perhaps even Jay himself in something of a Masky state. Hopefully Jay will regress and we'll get to see it after all.
