[ILB] "The Tale of Perdita" short film Here's the story reel for my animated short film: comments? Hi.
I've been hard at work developing a short animated film based on "Perdita's Story" from ILB. In animation the production workflow goes like this:
written story -> drawn storyboards -> story reel -> animation -> everything else
The story reel should nail down all the dramatic beats, timing, camera placement.
What I'm really curious about - does the story succeed? Do people get it, at this nascent stage? And then I wondered, perhaps the ARG community would have an informed opinion?
Please keep in mind that a story reel is early in the production process, so it will feel long (little animation) and dry (no sound mix).
But if you have the time to take a view I would appreciate your comments.

Curt,
Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed watching it and I think it'll be really good when fully animated. Alicyn did a wonderful job on the voice over. I'm not extremely familiar with the context of the story (relationship to ILB) since I wasn't around back then and only have read snippets of it over time. I wish you the best of luck with this.

Hi,
Here are some work-in-progress test renders from my film "The Tale of Perdita". At this stage in production I'm finishing up the modeling and texturing of the main characters, so Perdita and the Clockwork Rat are not posed in these pictures.
Also, since I'm going to render the film using Valve's Source engine I have put the characters into selected Valve games to see how they react to different lighting environments.

Character Design - Carol Ashley
Character Art - Will Nichols
Character Modeling - Igor Lodeiro
Directed and Technical Direction - Curt Stewart
Rendered in Valve's "Half-Life 2" and "Portal"

Do you have a target for when you're hoping to complete this?

My goal is to have this film completed this year, that's about the best estimate I can give. I'll post interesting updates to this forum as the production crosses important milestones.
And thank you all for taking a look.

I never thought I would say this about a rat, but that clockwork rat has character.
I look forward to seeing future updates.
