has anyone asked this person if they know someone named "St. Feline" -- this R.U Artist thing has a distinct "bseeingu" aura about it.
(not a serious suggestion)

Which is a quote from John Burroughs. One connection I can find is in the names:

John Burroughs
Edgar Allan Poe
Eggar Rice Burroughs was the author of John Carter of Mars

Another connection is this quote from John Burroughs about Poe:
"The keener appreciation in Europe of literature as a fine art is no doubt the main reason why Poe is looked upon over there as our most noteworthy poet. Poe certainly had a more consummate art than any other American singer." John Burroughs, in "Century Magazine"

Hmmmm, okay. Does anyone have a copy of the book? If this is tied to the original novel it might prove a handy reference. And hang on a sec, I'm gonna ask Re: St. Feline!

((BTW for what it's worth, I'm understhestarsofaraway.))

Pulling at these tiny threads of clues, I think I've stumbled upon who R.U. might be.
Richard Upton Pickman, a character from "Pickman's Model", a short story by H. P. Lovecraft.
From wikipedia...
Quote:
Pickman is depicted as a renowned Boston painter notorious for his ghoulish works. His great-great-great-great-grandmother was hanged by Cotton Mather during the Salem witch trials of 1692. ("Pickman" and "Upton" are, in actuality, old Salem names.[3]) In 1926, Pickman vanished from his home—a date only given in Lovecraft's "History of the Necronomicon". Pickman reappears as a ghoul in The Dream Quest of Unknown Kadath (1926) and aids Randolph Carter in his journeys.

Lovecraft scholar Robert M. Price writes, "Dream-Quest's Pickman surely bears little relationship to the character of the same name we met in 'Pickman's Model', though he is ostensibly the same person." He suggests that the portrayal of Pickman in Dream-Quest is influenced by the character of Tars Tarkas in Edgar Rice Burroughs' A Princess of Mars.

His tumblr page says "Showcasing my latest masterpieces of terror."

There is also that reference to Tars Tarkas who mistakenly calls John Carter "Virginia" (youtube link from John Carter movie)

For reference: The text of "Pickman's Model".

I left a tweet to @ruartist asking, "Did you have a studio at the North End ?" to test this theory; now waiting for a reply. Smile

ETA: RU left a comment on wyrdcon.com that links back to the tumblr page.

A gaming convention – how delightful! The perfect venue for my upcoming artistic work, Goldbug.

BTW, I do believe I found her today. And I can't wait for it all to begin, but, for now, I must prepare.

R.U.

You and Dante are awesome at digging up connections. Pickman's Model is one of my favorites.

It feels a little like old times; and that makes me smile.

I like this new slant. Smile

Looks like we're being led by the hand back through the Crayon box.

https://twitter.com/ruartist

I must be dumber than a box of rocks, but I can't see anything in CTBRNLOH or (using Unmellow Yellow for fdfc74) CTBRNUOH.

The newer clues "Begin again" and "##########################"
don't help much.

26 number signs? Letter/number?

Woot! So glad to check back in and see how much has been figured out! Sadly I'm being crushed with schoolwork right now so I'll have to mostly lurk on this one, but I'm enjoying your discoveries! Keep up the good work, team.

RU tweeted replies:

@drizjr No

@ruartist RU from Boston?
@drizjr I wish.

I like that he seems to have a sense of humor.
I didn't ask out right about Pickman just in case anyone else here wants to play 20 questions with him. We do have till June, after all.

I asked the following to be sure that we're on the right track with this color puzzle:
Quote:
@ruartist 1dacd6=Cerulean?
dbd7d2=Timberwolf?
232323=Black?

@drizjr Correct. But there is more.

I also asked @RUArtist for confirmation on the fdfc74 and ff1dce colors since they have two choices in the Crayola pallete.

Well R.U. posted another color puzzle on the tumbler:

The first one seems to use the familiar Crayola conversions:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
BEGINAGAIN

The second one uses colors that don't seem to match the Crayola list very well:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
These are the hexcodes I extracted. However, I think I'm having some "true" color issues. The ones with "?" are guesses because they are close matches to the previous puzzles:

FCB4D5 - Lavender
008078
414A4C - Outer Space
5A75CE - Iris
86A968 - A?
FF6B84
FF6B84
6E5060 - Eggplant
6BAE80
6BAE80
FF5E4E - S?
FFA086 - V?
6BAE80
00ACD8
DBD7D1 - Timberwolf
FCB4D5 - Lavender
FF5E4E - S?
6BAE80
FFBCB3 - M?
6BAE80
F21F4A

I tried looking for other color name lists to use but couldn't find anything. Perhaps I'm not getting the right hexes.

danteIL, think your list is one short for the second.

Viewing the second image as a cryptogram, you can get some interesting phrases. The most interesting I was able to come up with (using Web Decrypto to assist) was:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
YOU WILL MEET HER BY THE SEA

Still, not sure if that is the correct route to take or not.

Good one Toasty! I must be one off, color is not really my thing.

Sounds like Annabel Lee.
