[UPDATE] Fortunes Today on the blog:
Quote:
Here's something I learned on my trip to Asia: They don't have fortune cookies in China. That's an American thing.
Even so, all summer long, I kept wishing for a fortune cookie. I wanted to crack one open and pull out exactly the right cliché, the one small piece of wisdom that would put everything into perspective. I wanted to finish a meal and find the little slip of paper that would tell me, "Everything is going to work out for the best." "You are safe." "You will do the right thing."
Kinda silly to expect so much from a cookie, huh?
Last night, Aunt Margaret took me out to dinner. She wanted to see my trip pictures and hear all my stories. (I don't think she even realizes how much danger she was in these past few weeks, and by the way: she has completely given up on her hotmail account.) We went to Yank Sing so she could eat Dau Miu Gow and Chicken Fun Gwor while looking at photos of me stumbling along the Great Wall. Well, when we finished dinner, I finally got the fortune cookie I'd been wanting for months.
"A problem you solve for someone else is the very problem you must solve for yourself."
Can a fortune cookie be, like… retroactively right?
*
Today we helped Melissa go home again, but I don't think we quite know yet what that means for us . Even though Melissa is gone, I don't seem to have control over Aunt Margaret's site. There's still something living there, and it thinks it's going to broadcast something on Thursday 11/4.
For my part, I'm going to do what I can by helping Melissa execute the training mission she arranged for her crew. I'll be handling all the remaining RSVPs for the events, so if you can make it to Austin, Chicago, New York City, or San Francisco this Thursday evening, be sure you email me with the city and your crew name.
*
I don't know what happens next, but I think we did the right thing. I think we sent a lost girl back home. I think we solved the right problem. And I think our fortunes will change as a result.
Looks like Dana is happy things are "over"

But I am happy that according to the flea, who apparently stayed behind on the ILB site, things are not quite over!
I wonder if I send a flash drive to Dana I can get her to get the flea to move onto. Then I could have my very own "seeker" on my computer!

Erm, not to be bitchy... but Dana didn't do much of anything other than run away, every now and then talk in order to stay an active character, and then get manipulated into helping destroy the SP. Sure she was vital to the story... but did she really truly help us beekeepers?
I'm sure if I were subjected to what she had been through I would have done the same...
I wish I had my own seeker too.
[insanely improbable but hopefully amusing spec] Wouldn't it be crazy kule if with at the events they sold Halo 2? And with every halo 2 from the event, a PF came with it? That way each xbox with a PF becomes a new axon that people from the future have to connect to and beat us in Multiplayer Halo 2, sending Melissa back to us where we do everythign all over again?? [/insanely improbable but hopefully amusing spec]
*gets pelted with an empty can* Reads what I just wrote... wow, I really have to much time on my hands.
*leaves computer singing STYX*

What did you expect her to do, jump from an airplane into a nest full of bees?

you know, I feel a little put out... I've sent emails to melissa/dana, and so far I've only one response, long ago when the axons just went hot, from dana asking to put my site up as a resource... nothing since... *hmph* I just want to say hi basically... :'(

She (or Margaret) kept paying the ungodly bandwidth/hosting bill each month. Multiple dedicated servers on Rackspace, media hosted by Akamai, millions of people hitting the site each day, thousands of people reloading every few seconds during events, tens of thousands of people downloading over a hundred megabytes of sound files -- I shudder to think how much it all cost.
And yet, they faithfully kept on paying to run a site that was doing them absolutely no good, especially since Margaret isn't even selling honey because the bees are sick.
That's dedication.

Same here, I've been writing her the whole time. Only thing I've gotten back from that e-mail address was from the Flea. Guess that's something anyways.

I've gotten about 5 emails from her, but I think it was due to my harrassing of their inbox. I had troubles with them calling the correct number and emailed them constantly until I got an answer. I guess persistance pays off and annoys the hell out of the PM's!

dana emails gee, I only emailed her a few times but I got responses from dana. (FYI-They are all posted in the interactions thread.)
I can't imagine how many emails she got. So they must have used some sort of triage system to sort them all. I don't know how they decided who to respond to, but I did always make sure to put my nickname in the subject line.
Maybe I got put into her list because I wrote to her very, very early in the game? Also, except for the one with the summaries, I tried to keep them short and to the point.

I'm glad Dana referenced the fortune cookies again. It's a shame only
Mad Cow's cookie turned up, after all that effort by the PM's.
