[RESOURCES] Start here -- PLEASE READ (It's pretty painless)

Hi and welcome!

As you may or may not have noticed, Last Call Poker is not exactly a normal online poker site. Wink

What it appears to be is the site (or perhaps central site -- more may come) for an alternate reality game (ARG). If you are new to ARGs, welcome! You may want to visit imbri's QuickStart Guide for a basic primer. Or you can learn by playing. If you have questions, please ask. We are friendly. Smile Probably the best way to begin to play Last Call Poker is to visit Lucy's profile, as well as Lucky's. More content can be found by clicking the names of the "cards" found on the Top Players page.

If you are new to these forums, please read these guidelines.

THE STORY SO FAR can be found by clicking the word "story." Smile

ARE YOU ON A MAC? You may need to go here to get Last Call Poker to work on your computer.

If you're having non-Mac-related problems with the interface, there may be help for you here.

RESOURCES

Bill is hosting and Rowan is updating a Wiki/Guide here.

Scarpegrosse is hosting a modblog on her site. Feel free to go there and contribute. (Thanks, Scrappy!)

A list of characters may be found here (thanks, yanka!). A list of phone numbers is here (thanks, jamesi!).

There is a timeline for the story so far here. (Thanks, rose!)

Rowan has a wonderful chart diagramming the character relationships here.

There's a detailed list of characters and their contact info here (Whose site is this?) [It's Yanka's. Smile -SpaceBass]. (Thanks again, Yanka!)

Transcripts of all the voice mail and answering machine messages linked in characters' profiles may be found here (thanks, Dasro!).

Some discussion about playing cards and their history and symbolism, as well as how it may or may not relate to the game, can be found here.

IRC HELP

Most of us also hang out in an Internet Relay Chat channel called #lastcall on irc.chat-solutions.org. If you're already familiar with IRC, hope to see you there. Smile

If you're not already familiar with IRC, Unfiction offers a painless and non-scary way to dip your toes in. Use the UF IRC client to visit UF's chat channels.

To get to #lastcall, fill in the fields as follows:

Click the green arrow at the bottom and you should be good to go! [Edit: I've added #lastcall the chat applet list, so you should be able to select it from the dropdown now, or click the link above to go straight to the channel. -SpaceBass]

However, for people who are chatting from behind corporate firewalls, you may need a different CGI client to sneak past the firewalls.

I've found that this one works best. (Note to Firefox users: hitting "backspace" in this client sometimes kicks you out of chat, so be careful -- I'd highlight and delete rather than backspace whenever possible.) Enter the information as shown:

and hit "enter" or "log in."

Or, you can download a client like mIRC to chat, and enjoy the customizable features and scripts.

A FEW OTHER NOTES

-- In the interest of keeping the signal-to-noise ratio as high as possible, please, please Search. Someone may have already found the information you're about to post, or, if you have new info, there may already be a discussion where it would be appropriate. Thank you. Smile

-- One of the terms we use here is "trout." This can be used as a noun or a verb. It is a term of respect, not a flame:

Dan Fabulich wrote:
When I say "trout" to you, I don't simply mean the fish, I mean to say to you: "Listen. I respect you. It's great that you're here and posting and that we're working together for a common goal. Nonetheless, I have some polite criticisms."

More on trout can be found here, in the Glossary (a useful resource if people are using terminology you don't recognize...unless it's poker terminology Confused . Sorry, not much help there). There is also a trout-free question thread here where we will answer whatever question you have, and never trout you.

-- In order to preserve the mystery and excitement for new players, perhaps it would be best if we referred to the PMs simply as the PMs. If you want to do some PM-hunting on your own, feel free to, but please don't spoil it here for the people who don't want to know. For more on ARG etiquette, or if you think you've found a non-fair-play hole in the game reality (i.e. a vulnerability in the site, etc.) please read this post before announcing your discovery.

-- This post will continue to be updated as new resources are developed. Please post in this thread if you are aware of a resource not referenced in this post.

Here's some info about the website itself...

Quote:
It's free to play poker right?

Yup.

Quote:
What do the skulls by your avatar signify?

The skulls are an indication of how many buddies you have.

Near as we can tell, if you quicklink somebody, and they quicklink back, you become "Poker Buddies"

I believe, and please correct me if I'm wrong, the order of the color goes

White - less then 10 (?)
Blue - Less then 25 (?)
Green - 25-100 (?)
Gold - 101 on up (?)

Red - ??

Quote:
What do the poker chips signify

Total Chip Count for that player.

Near as we can tell, the different colors are...

Yellow = 10k or less
Black = 10k - 25k
Trophy Cup = 25K or more

Quote:
What do the card suits signify?

Diamond = Most Recently visited Lucy's Profile
Club = Most Recently visited Uncle "Lucky" Brown the Dealer's profile
Spade = Discovered a player card
Spade with a number = Discovered more then one player card
Heart = Nobody has one yet.

Quote:
I'm out of "real" chips, how do I get more?

You can't. Once you're out of "Real" chips you're done until noon on Saturday (Pacific Time) when everything resets.

If you run out of "Real" chips, you can still play in the practice rooms, also for free, but you won't get to keep your winnings. Your losses won't hurt you either however.

If you run out of chips in a practice room, just click on the dealer avatar to get more.

Quote:
Wait a moment, you said that on noon on Saturday (Pacific Time) "everything resets". What do you mean by that?"

As far as we can tell at this point, it means that everybody's chip count will reset. People with no chips, or less chips then the default (which one assumes is 10k), will get chips. People with more chips then the default will lose chips.

Quote:
Even that J_dot_J guy? He's got like 500k+!

Apparently.

Quote:
THAT'S NUTS

But fair... And that's not a question. And please don't yell.

Quote:
Sorry

No problem. Smile Any more questions?

Quote:
Yeah. Who are those quiet people with LCP_CityName?

They're poker bots.

Quote:
Are they really going to play Tombstone Hold'em at real graveyards?

In the events page they mention bringing flowers to leave at a grave of your selection as a sign of respect... So... Probably, yeah.

Quote:
How can I find out about stuff that isn't here?

SEARCH! It's your friend!

Quote:
You don't have to yell.

Sorry.

Quote:
No problem
