[UPDATE] [Oct 9] Gateway folder

I thought with all the pages found by now this deserves a separate thread.

The visible links on the index page of /gateway refer to
* add1.html which contains descriptions of the images
* 5993.html which is excerpt #1 (Sarah Belton)
* 5193.html which is the excerpt #2

From the latter you can conclude to
* 5293.html
doesn't seem to be related to any of the two other excerpts
* 5393.html

Further we have:

current.html

security.html (cipher)

and the image folder which has its own thread:

http://vaporlofts.com/gateway/images/

edit: removed [vl] tag. added date tag - rowan

Edit: I probably should not change the date on an old update thread, but with VL it's quite handy to have a directory tree, isn't it?

A couple things off of the 5293 page, we finally get a new name
Quote:
Subject: Parrish, Franklin

and another thing that looks like it might be a puzzle is the info on the page:

Quote:
Vapor, Inc: Consequential Target Order / Grandiloquent Estate Err Co.

End Encoded Information Sequence.

encoded how???

Consequential Target Order / Grandiloquent Estate Err Co

these phrases are anagrams of each other for a start. there are way too many other anagrams to narrow it down though. unless we had a keyword.

here's some more inferred links to check out, related to the first post in this thread:

http://vaporlofts.com/gateway/5393.html

here's the main body text:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Vapor, Inc: Information existing on current internal reference database has been cleared. Please observe and correct/remove information threatening security as is necessary if it is considered to be compromised by outside sources.

pretty interesting...

The link is already up there. Wink

More interesting is that there are letters next to the auth code on this page as there are on 5293.html and the description for both 5393.html and 5293.html is "gateway - 5293"...does it mean that information on the two pages needs to be combined in some way?
A likely candidate for this would be the letters besides the auth code.
It's x/b on 5293.html and y/a on 5392.html, which could indicate a substitution cipher - or in this specific case - it would turn out to be a mirror code leaving out z (replaced with z).

I'm still waiting for 5493.html to appear in the future, because wasn't that the number on floorplan1.jpg before it was removed?
Saved the pic, but it's on my other machine...

Still messing with the anagrams for this, but not coming up with much. Somebody else found GROTESQUE REINCARNATED LOT and the best I've seen is REQUESTING ALTERNATE COORD.

Any ideas for possible words are welcome. It helps narrow down the search space a lot.

Stuff I've tried:
coordinates
enter
entrance
enter coordinates
request
requesting
sequence
sequencing

Promising stuff that can't work:
atlanta
gateway

Plus, excerpt 1 is now linked: 5993.html
Finally, another reference to Sarah Belton.

well here's a frequency analysis for the first lot of letters *see attachment - modified post to remove some dead space*

Now, I've tried ROTx, and I'm trying a Vignere atm with various keys but nothing so far. As for the second lot of letters/symbols.. well.. I have no idea at all

It's another one of those. Should be simple substitution, v is a blank and v8 is a period. But like in the last one we have 8v which (again) suggests that this one is backwards.
We do learn after all, I guess. Very Happy

In the future we might be better of with posting those in separate threads. It's hard to track back which ciphers we already had to apply what we learned from these to the actual ones.

Edit: There's an 8 without a v left or right of it...ohoh...this could be diffferent after all. Or it's a dot for a URL or something?

Here is a decode of the second code:
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
General Level stages 1-? - Access to project grounds, parking areas, basic research departments after identity verification.

Beta Level stages 1-? - Higher clearance permissions for internal communications between locational projects. Access to portal observatories and control areas, clearance for analysis of critical data. Additional data available as this clearance level is granted to the individual.

Tertiary Stage Clearance stages 1-? - Permissions to access data on subjects, all access granted to sublevels. Permission to communicate with subjects if necessary. Additional data available as this clearance level is granted to the individual.

Portal Access Key - [classified information]

(The question marks are three different digits, other than not being 0 or 1, I don't see a way to figure exactly what they are.)

And since no one bothered posting the solution to the 5993 page in the thread where it was being talked about (wasting a whole bunch of my time)- here it is.

Comes from this post.

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
The key therefore is "betalevel". The rest is easy, but very annoying so I used this tool to break it. That actually figures out the cipher without even knowing the key in about 3 seconds, woo!

Here's the plaintext ('x's are removed, modifications in []):

Preliminary analysis of the subject Belton[']s in relation to potential critical recombination of subject and entity as a hybrid upon return from portal. [*]information removed[*] Through all stages of initial preparation Belton retains coherence and awareness of self. There is no sign that piggybacking has occured. It is believed at this time that the entities encountered within the
Gateway must be invited by parties inside of the portal for import into this area. Heavy containment fields are highly recommended at all times. In the event of entity escape Belton has made three entries through the Gateway as of the date of this communication and does not exhibit any of the symptoms of critical failure exhibited in previous lesser qualified test subjects. Perhaps notably[,] her enthusiasm for entering the Gateway grows daily though clearances must be permitted and power allowances must be allowed. When questioned about the events occuring within
the portal Belton reports that results and situations coincide all other information provided by previous subjects and their accounts of entities encountered within the portal section. [*]removed[*] section [*]removed[*] Conclusively[,] it is recommended that Belton continue researching entities encountered within the Gateway in preparation for the higher goals of the company. Additionally a new subject has been discovered by the company[']s research team. More infor[m]ation to follow in additional communications as it becomes available.

What do you mean with that? I opened a new thread for the puzzles we face at this point and put the solution in there (marking the puzzle as solved), because I figured that opening yet another thread for just the solution would be unnecessary.

I don't know. Maybe it's because of the fact that I have spent the last week or so going through these threads, trying to write a guide, and finding that most of the threads do not stay on topic. I found at least 3 different threads talking about the Oct 9th update to the Gateway - all of which originally started out about something else. I can't help but think that if one new thread had been made for it, all of the repeating wouldnt have occured. I also can't help but think that if a thread is already discussing a specific puzzle that the solution should be in that thread somewhere as well. Not in some other thread that you can't even tell what exactly it contains nor that it is even solved without opening it up.

But hey, what do I know. Obviously people have an issue with the way I prefer threads to be arranged, so I guess I'm in the minority. I guess I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on.

*waves hands wildly*
Whoa, whoa, whoa. Lets not have any infighting, people. So the threads got off topic. That shouldn't happen, but it did. We all should work on focusing our posts a little better. Perhaps even open up one thread for "general chatter" as a place to bounce ideas and other postulations around on anything.
Rowan: Chill, dude. Abraxas didn't mean to insult. His heart's in the right place, trying to organize it a little. maybe not the most effective way, but he tried.

Abraxas: perhaps the thread titles should have been more clear than they were. it is a little confusing trying to go through the different threads and not sure if the thread is done, or if it continued somewhere else.

Everyone else: let's try to stay a little more focused in our postings. if you found something new, but it doesn't necessarily relate to what's being discussed in the thread, start a new one. And clearly name it, "New section of vaporlofts: FooBar" not "site update."

But then again, that's just me.
