[hex] 236 - Swarms ok, so this card says, sibling rivalry? and has loads of lil bee looking things and bugs? each one has a roman numeral next to it. There is a really small set of numbers at the bottom which ive seen on another card somewhere in my pile. 4-4333223323-3 and upside down 3-2112223-2.
and the card is garnet's.
ps. sorry the card's upside down!

This card is an almost exact replica of the Battle of Trafalgar battle formation, with British on the left, French and Spanish on the right. (Two different kinds of bug on the right hand side aswell)
However - the solve box asks for two numbers in numerical format - not roman numerals.

I thought later - the 'sibling rivaly' could be a reference to the fact that both fleets had a ship called Neptune . (Actually there were three, the Spanish had Neptuno , but only two with the exact same name.) That could mean the required numbers include their positions in the two sides' lines, their casualties (both were in the thick of it) or their number of guns.

Hmm. I don't know if this is even possible, as I don't know about naval battles etc..but could the ships have had a number on the fleet rosta and its asking for the number of the 2 similarly named ships?
Or, there are ships named with some mythological tie-in like Neptune, aka Posiedon, son of Cronus and Rhea. Their children were Demeter, Hestia, Hera, Hades, Poseidon and Zeus.
Possibly barking up the wrong tree but Neptune made me think of gods.

I tried the numbers for 2 of the Neptunes, and then the 2 flagships, but neither worked.
Were there any well-known brothers fighting on opposite sides in this battle?

I've had some thoughts about this card going in a different direction. I've been thinking sibling rivalry as an altruism thing. Honey bees and Fire ants both have queens. Reproductive SWARMING occurs when a portion of the colony leaves to produce a new colony. Sibling rivalry in a basic sense is the natural jealousy of a child to a "new" sibling. If the ants and bees represent nations fighting over land, maybe the question is who was there first?

Could it be the number of ships lost/surviving on each side? I'm blocked until later so I can't check that one.

/me has another thought about the 'sibling rivalry'.
Nelson referred to his captains as his "band of brothers". Dunno where that fits in, of course... must get hold of a copy of this card!

Von's hint:

Not so much of a hint.

And Von's hint has that typo in, so it may be significant.

I think it is definitely to do with the Battle of Trafalgar due to the formation shown on the card. If you notice some of the ants have "F" on them which I think indicates that they are the French ships. I am now locked out of the card for 24 hours as it is not the 2 French and Spanish Ant flagships. Anyone else got any further with this yet?

just a thought, but why use bees and ants for a battle at sea? Bees imply that flight may be involved.
Or am I just being over critical of the analogy.

Bees and ants are used for the symbology because they use swarming in battle which is now a recognised military tactic which was used at Trafalgar.
