[UPDATE] Dale's Journal June 19

Quote:

June 19, 2006: I've been trying to write this since late last night and I keep typing, than deleting, typing, then deleting, typing, then deleting. And then, when I thought I finally had something written that at least sounded semi-coherent, we had some weird power surge or something in Aglaura and my computer just shut down, all on its own. Of course, when I rebooted, the html page I was working on was gone, like a dream lost to the light of day.

One by one illusions fall,

Yesterday was Father's Day you know, and Meaghan was here for dinner and a short while after. It was nice to see her, but I'm afraid she may have noticed how distracted or pre-occupied I was. She kept having to ask me if I was listening, and I was, I really was. She was telling me something about getting in trouble with her mother over my comic book. I think she tells me about upsetting Diana because she thinks I'll like it but honestly, I couldn't care less right now. Diana has made her own choices and I can't change them. I'm only sorry that Meg is stuck in the middle of all of it.

Ash Grove Park was still closed but still hectic with activity, I guess getting ready for their opening this week. Good thing the security guards were the same ones who had been there a few weeks ago when I went out there for the ADMIT ONE tickets, so I was able to talk them into letting me through without too much trouble. Instead of heading for the office area though, I went right for the midway, where I knew the tent of Digitalis would be waiting. I had no real reason to think he would be there, since they weren't even supposed to be open for a few days yet.

One redemption may doom us all.

I need to remember to ask Sam about what was happening down by the town park earlier. The police were there, along with some spectators it seemed, but I didn't take the time to stop since I was focused solely on getting out to Ash Grove and back in time to be with Meg. Too focused perhaps, as I almost had an accident on the way there. I need to ask her about the dream too. I mean, the thing I asked her to check out from my dream.

Meg seemed anxious to leave for some reason, which is surprising since all she talked about was how much she didn't like it at her Mother's lately. I wish there was something I could do about that now, but sadly there just isn't.

From best intentions, the darkest lies,

The tent was dark when I got there but I could hear someone within and as I approached I heard him say, "Come in, there isn't much time." He was there, Digitalis, a single candle burning to light the tent within. It seemed unnaturally dark, considering it was the afternoon outside, but I quickly forgot that when I saw his hand. "Six fingers on one hand he had."

"But he knows about the three-oh-seven thing, Dad," she said.

His voice was calm but firm as he said, "You have been here many times before, each time choosing to neglect my words and warnings. But listen carefully, Dale Sprague. You will not find yourself here again."

And mercy for those we despise.

"There is one who has lost his way, forgotten who he is. The mask he wears is not his own. His choice has saved and doomed us." "Who.." "Quiet, you must listen," he said.

"Who?" I asked her, "Who knows about it, Meg?"

"What one seeks to restore, another seeks to destroy. What one seeks to escape, another seeks to discover. And the one who can set it right, it the one who has lost it all." Silence. "Do you understand me, Dale Sprague? Do you understand?"

"You don't understand!" she screamed at me, tears welling in her eyes. "Never again," I replied, "Do you understand me?"

All of this will soon be gone. All of this will soon be gone. All of this will soon be gone.

[edit] At around 7 am this morning June 20, Dale corrected a small typo.
Original:

Quote:

And the one who can set it right, it the one who has lost it all.

Corrected to:
Quote:

And the one who can set it right, is the one who has lost it all.

We need to figure out who made the wish this time. That's probably who made whatever choice. I would't be surprised if it WAS Bruce... but it can't be that obvious.

It first crossed my mind that it may have been Todd who 'wished'.
Tho' he hasn't actually been confirmed 100% in this game yet has he?
Even tho' we do have Wesson Studios.

Just looking through the archive and saw something i'd forgotten, in CTW1's original reality, when Todd was friends with Sarah, they visited AGP together and Todd had to 'rescue' her from Digitalis, who wouldn't let her go ."You know, sometimes your future finds you, my dear. Oh yes, especially you".

Sounds like Dale's about lost it. He's having three conversations at the same time in this post. One with us, one with Digitalis and one with Meaghan. He's also spouting more 'automatic writing' of sorts.

Guess the new wish's been made already. I'm wavering between thinking it's by someone 'good' (From best intentions, the darkest lies) or by someone quite unlikeable who will need our help (And mercy for those we despise).

"The one who has lost his way, forgotten who he is" could be the same as "the one who can set it right, it the one who has lost it all." - namely Dale. It also sounds like either Digitalis is going to disappear or that Dale's not making it back to Ash Grove Park ever again. I hope the park's not going the cemetery route again tomorrow.

I think Meaghan was trying to tell Dale about Nurse guy too. Does "Never again," I replied, "Do you understand me?" imply he snapped at her or is this Dale responding to someone else in his head? Could explain Meg's desire to get away from her dad that day.

I agree that there seems to be several conversations going on in this one entry. I've tried to put them together in hopes of making some sense of them.

First, his converation with Meaghan:

Quote:
I've been trying to write this since late last night and I keep typing, than deleting, typing, then deleting, typing, then deleting. And then, when I thought I finally had something written that at least sounded semi-coherent, we had some weird power surge or something in Aglaura and my computer just shut down, all on its own. Meg seemed anxious to leave for some reason, which is surprising since all she talked about was how much she didn't like it at her Mother's lately. I wish there was something I could do about that now, but sadly there just isn't.

"But he knows about the three-oh-seven thing, Dad," she said.

"Who?" I asked her, "Who knows about it, Meg?"

"You don't understand!" she screamed at me, tears welling in her eyes.

His thought to himself about contacting Sam:

Quote:
I need to remember to ask Sam about what was happening down by the town park earlier. The police were there, along with some spectators it seemed, but I didn't take the time to stop since I was focused solely on getting out to Ash Grove and back in time to be with Meg. His encounter with Digitalis:

Quote:
Ash Grove Park was still closed but still hectic with activity, I guess getting ready for their opening this week. Good thing the security guards were the same ones who had been there a few weeks ago when I went out there for the ADMIT ONE tickets, so I was able to talk them into letting me through without too much trouble. "Never again," I replied, "Do you understand me?"

And then there is the poem:

Quote:
One by one illusions fall,

One redemption may doom us all.

From best intentions, the darkest lies,

And mercy for those we despise.

And then the haunting warning:

Quote:
All of this will soon be gone. All of this will soon be gone. All of this will soon be gone.

Note: I changed "Never again," I replied, "Do you understand me?" to the end of the conversation with Digitalis instead of the conversation with Meaghan. It makes more sense. Thanks to driz for the suggetion.

Sounds like the 3-0-7 graffiti could have finally made it's appearance in town.

[Update] Dale's Journal June 20

Another update June 20

Quote:
June 20, 2006: I'm happy to let everyone who has written to me about the situation with the Aglaura Public Library know that the Council meeting, in which a vote is likely to be taken, has been delayed until this Thursday. It seems that the power spike (or whatever it was) took its toll on the town's network and systems, so the meeting originally scheduled for tonight was postponed. That's good news, it really is, because it's given Mayor Dobbs some time to consider a request I made, which I think could help us win, in case a vote happens on Thursday. It has to do with an old town bylaw that allows "non-resident interested parties" to speak at official Borough functions that Sam found and presented to Dobbs. Believe it or not, I actually dreamt about the bylaw, in a situation where the rule was passed to allow people from all across the country to take part in a news conference held in Aglaura a few years ago. Nobody around here remembered it or the press conference I was talking about, but Sam managed to actually find it in the old Aglaura charter books.

It's a shame it won't actually allow anyone to vote, because I'm sure we would win then in a vote over the Library, but I've read some of the letters that have come in after Sarah's request for people to contact Aglaura citizens, and I think your statements alone could help turn the tide. The passion and logic within those letters needs to be heard at our next meeting, and hopefully it's all going to happen thanks to Sam.

I'll give you more details when I have them.

Update June 24.

Quote:
June 24, 2006: Well, thanks to a lot of hard work by a lot of passionate people, many of whom it turns out are readers of this journal and fans of my comic, Chasing The Wish, we did it. We saved the Aglaura Public Library from certain destruction, as part of the misguided Marzent Redevelopment Plan Phase 2. And what a sweet victory it was. As a writer, I honestly couldn't have scripted a more dramatic or better resolution to the whole affair. I think it is something I and the others who were fighting for the APL will long remember.

Since you all were such an important part of the success and have been so interested in and involved with the issue since you found out about it, I'm going to try and fill you in on some of the details of the Council meeting held a couple of nights ago, as I remember them. I was somewhat occupied with moderating the phone-in portion of the meeting at Sam and Mayor Dobbs' request, so I'm not sure I caught every word from every speaker, but I'll do my best.

The Council meeting itself began with the usual formalities and miscellaneous town business issues we had to deal with, and we didn't really get to the Redevelopment Plan until around 7:45. As soon as it was brought onto the floor, Diana made a motion to bring it to a vote, as a way of heading off the announced open discussion section coming up, I think. She was not happy about that at all, and seemed even more upset about it than Bruce, Marzent's representative there for the night. If you thought what she said about "outsider's opinions" during the recorded call-in portion was bad, you should have heard her when she was trying to persuade the Council to not even allow it, despite the bylaw that permitted it in the first place. All I'll say is I couldn't even put what she said in an upcoming issue of my comic, and you've seen the language already in there.

We had about ten minutes of serious discussion before the meeting was opened up to the interested outsiders, and it was great that several of the locals who don't normally get involved or speak out, actually stood up and talked about the great messages they received from people from all over the world, interested in saving our Library. Diana actually made some rude comments about how anyone who sent one of these messages ought to be prosecuted for spamming Aglaura citizens, but Dobbs shut her up pretty quickly. The poor guy has actually been showing signs of both some guts and a conscience lately, and the Library issue in particular has really put him through the wringer.

The call-in portion went off mechanically without a hitch, so both Sam and I were thrilled with that. The callers made some incredible statements, and both Sarah and I believe they truly helped turn the tide in our favor at the end of the day. We're still trying to figure out who the "protest singer" was, since she announced herself as an Aglaura resident. No one seems to know, although there are a lot of wide guesses going around, everything from one of the local high school kids to the ghost of Mrs. Dobbs.

I thought it was priceless and truly fitting that Diana's attempt to manipulate both the meeting and the vote by forcing us to take a Roll Call vote backfired on her so beautifully. She was hoping people would be intimidated somehow by being forced to associate their name with an actual "yes" or "no" but all it really did was slow everything down long enough for Phyllis and Iris to show up and cast the votes that tied it up. It also gave me both the time and opportunity to look at the documented votes while Dobbs was trying to figure out what he was going to do about the tie, and notice that Sam hadn't voted. Luckily, I got downstairs and woke her up (yes, she had actually dozed off at the computer again) just in time to cast the deciding vote. The look on Diana's face was incredible, and well worth the drama and tension up until that point. She had actually jumped up and screamed, "Yes!" when we all thought the vote originally passed, and turned bright red when it was determined we weren't quite done yet. God, it really was one of those priceless moments that should be in a credit card commercial.

I was amazed frankly that so many Aglaura residents stuck around for the actual vote, since our extended debate and the subsequent roll call vote took us well past midnight. I was half expecting some of them to just disappear or turn into toads or something when the clock hit 12:00, since I don't think I'd ever seen them out that late.

In any case, I just wanted to tell you all as much as possible exactly what happened at the meeting, since several of you had written requesting the details. I know you are all as thrilled and as happy as we are here; in fact, I've actually managed to get two good nights sleep since then, without a single bad or mixed up dream. Amazing, isn't it?

I'm thinking this means we're on the right track. When he starts having Nightmares again, another problem/building we need to fix/save is probably going to show up.

Two bits says Bruce and Sarah have had good nights sleep as well. Well, strike that, maybe not Bruce, but only because of Diana. Razz

Hidden entry in Dale's Journal 6/26/06

Update: Dale's journal 6-26-06 (<!--entry_new23--> in source. Continues the pattern of all previous numbered entries in order, except for the one missing entry; posted about here.)

Quote:
June 26, 2006: " ... in fact, I've actually managed to get two good nights sleep since then, without a single bad or mixed up dream. Amazing, isn't it?"

I'm not usually superstitious but I almost convinced I cursed myself when I said that a few days ago. I haven't slept since, well, not for more than twenty minutes at a time, anyway. While everyone else here in town is either still celebrating or plotting their revenge from the Library decision, I've found no lasting relief or comfort from the whole event, as I was hoping I would. Don't get me wrong, I'm overjoyed that Marzent didn't get their way, and that Sarah and the APL won't be going the way of many of the other elements of this town's past. But something still isn't right; there is something nagging at me about the Library and Marzent's interest in it. And it's found its way into my short periods of actual dreaming and the daydreams that are happening more and more every day. They're more like visions actually, because in many cases I'm still aware of my surroundings and what is going on around me. It's almost like I'm seeing into two different worlds or realities at once.

This morning, just before the sun came up and as the last of severe thunderstorm was blowing through the Pines, I had one of those dreams or visions or whatever you want to call them. It began, like so many do lately, with fire. I was sitting somewhere, I'm not sure where, staring into a fire burning in a rough stone fireplace. I was watching the flames dance, imagining small figures twirling in the shifting colors of the fire when they suddenly became real. Instead of a fireplace fire, I was looking at a building or location of some sort, although I couldn't make out what or where it was through the smoke. And there were people in the flames, screaming, running about, and burning. The people seemed familiar, but I'm certain they weren't my friends or family here from Aglaura, but I couldn't get close enough to see them clearly or help them, because of the heat and flames.

Even so, I finally couldn't take anymore of their screams and the smell, and I braced myself to run into the fire, to rescue whomever I could. Before I could move though, someone was standing beside me, a firm hand grasping my shoulder from behind. I looked down to see five long fingers holding me strongly so I couldn't move.

"All of this will soon be gone," he said to me, repeating a mantra I then realized had already begun faintly somewhere in the recesses of my mind. "I have to help them," I said, my eyes blurring and stinging with tears and smoke. The man's powerful hand spun me around effortlessly, so I was facing a tall figure, his head covered by a dark, concealing hood. "No," he said, "You have done enough. It is because of you they die."

I don't know why, but I knew he spoke the truth. I fell to my knees as the screams and heat from behind me increased. The man spoke again.

"We have no more time for riddles and rhymes, the man who isn't will wait no longer. His plan has already begun and the first blood has been drawn, mere sacrifices to the world he envisions and recalls. You must find the ones who have been lost, and restore to them their missing faith. If even one is lost, all of this will soon be gone."

"I don't understand," I cried, as the flames crawled up my back, and I smelled the clothes on my back beginning to smolder and burn.

He was gone though and I fell face down to the ground, as the flames surrounded and consumed me. I realized then, right before I woke up, that the place in flames around me was the Library.

Our next mission?
edit to add: " You must find the ones who have been lost, and restore to them their missing faith. If even one is lost, all of this will soon be gone."
Who are the lost ones? Is it the missing people in the woods, reported on the Aglaura page? Has any character mentioned a loss of faith? Or could it be whoever is behind the mythosphere.org page?
"All of this will soon be gone" appears over and over again in Dale's hidden journal entries and in http://www.mythosphere.org/ . Perhaps, we should revisit that site. Threads are here and here, and the post of Kendra's great solve is here.

edit to restore original text. I should have done copy & paste, not cut & paste Dunce Sorry for any confusion. Embarassed

As I was reading this entry I started worrying about Marzano taking some drastic measures to destroy the Library - so he can either destroy what is in the walls, or release it....or get to what is beneath the building in the ground.

I'm really worried there is going to be a fire. I am going to suggest to Dale that these may be preminitions and they should take pains to guard over the library (or at least put anything valuable in a fireproof safe).

Too many fire dreams!

Bruce's January Blog post:
Quote:
Sweat Dreams

The good medical professionals of Aglaura have seen fit to provide me with Ambien.

I'm getting enough sleep for now. Still, my dreams have been so bizarre. Nightmares, really. Everyone, everything thing in them has been wreathed, or encased in flame. Like that wild video Spike Jonze made for that not-very-interesting band, Wax. California, I think was the name of the song. Two nights ago I woke up drenched in sweat. I'd been talking loudly in my sleep..."put out the fire", "put out the fire". Diana kissed me gently and went to sleep on the couch.

Not a trout, just reiterating... Smile

Who are the lost ones?

Sorry for asking, but I've been so busy the last few days, I've kind of lost track. Is this written somewhere on one of the websites? I just can't recall seeing it.
