I registered #tcotsa, although I assume there aren't going to be too many people in there right now.

Nothing constructive to say for now, except that their messages remind me of V.

Turns out our hint was meant specifically for ME.

While I happened to be in the right light, I gave the creased elements yet another glance that was more than desultory. And I noticed something... impressions in the paper underneath the cut out letters. Turns out our clue comes in the form of pencil rubbings. Running a pencil over the impressions shows words (which I will TRY to photograph later, we'll see if I have any luck).

The words are as follows:

Cutout-Word : "Impressed"-Word
______________________________
this phr : in 1789
aseology: Clinton, George
is nugato: bestowed upon this
ry disrega: gentleman
rd the word: the station
s with wit: of state
ch it prom: attorney
ulgates: general

______________________________

The answer is:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Aaron Burr

It doesn't solve our puzzle, but it's got to help... right?

haha i read that, and then i automatically give a jeopardy-style "answer in the form of a question"

But, since they told us its a "duplet" (2 words) i guess we need to drop the "who is..." part.

I think it is the solution to our puzzle
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
just write a sentence you created using those two words

I will send out my response tomorrow, so we get more than one person receiving the next challenge.

good job Lovek!

Yeah, if there'd been eight of us looking at these instead of me... this probably would've been solved two weeks ago.

Don't forget to put the answer into a sentence.

Edit: Ack, double!

stiletto, I think they also said to 'write a sentence using them'.

I'll send something, too.

And don't quote Lazy Sunday. It has to be a sentence of your own creation. Very Happy

I hope we don't have to use language as sophisticated as theirs...

Edit: In regards to sb's comment below, I'm also keeping the handwritten numbers in red in mind. Seems pretty vague at this point, but maybe...

if the hangman puzzles don't have anything to do with this, then it adds to my metapuzzle theory.
I think the "does not equal" symbols on the initial letter, the +/-x pics on the first couple letters, and now the hangmans, are all part of a "master" metapuzzle that'll probably be the final challenge. And from looking at what we have right now, I'm kinda terrified of that puzzle. lol

haha my response to the first puzzle (which I wrote but didn't mail in time) was something along the lines of "I hereby postulate that the elucidation to the inaugural conundrum put forth by the Committee is zoology"

big word me? i'll big word you right back. lol

Edit okay, next time, edit the previous, don't double post. *slaps self on hand*
