ah hah. That's that. I thought the picture we were all having trouble reading was the one RedHatty posted a link to before.

Got some replies from Taylor:
To my forst email she replied:
Quote:
you are on the right track!! Aunt Anna wants us to revisit the places she went to. We prove our loyalty by going to the locations that we get the names to by completing the LORE trials.

I don't know the answer, but I did just dig up some more photos of the location that might help some family members go to exactly the right spot in the san diego state historic park

And followed up quickly with:
Quote:
er, i mean old town san diego state historic park...

To my email with:
Quote:
Could Aunt Anna's references be leading up to a specific person or other entity. There are lots of people buried in the area/haunting the Whaley house, starting with "Yankee Jim" Robinson, who was hanged there prior to the Whaleys building the house to the family dog, "Dolly Varden". Why would someone name their dog after a type of fish?

Her reply was:
Quote:
again - thinking like an anglo!

My last to her:
Quote:
Taylor,
Thanks!

I have a friend who is going out to the graveyard in an hour or so, but she's not any surer about where to go if she doesn't see that plaque than I am. She'll go to the State Historic park as well, not so much due to the cryptogram Anna sent as due to some pics online with a similar"ish" look. The text of the challenge really points more to the graveyard when you haven't been to the area and are relying on online resources..
Care to share any more of those pics before my friend gets out there?

ETA:
It looks like we're being asked to go with the obvious and as usual, we're overthinking the puzzle(s).

Anglo eh? - "But, in truth, Robinson's wife, Sarah, was the real attraction. She was the first Anglo woman to come to this area" From a site I found...

The Robinson-Rose house is the one we know of.

So... this family has something to do with ghost rabbits? Nice Cool

Celina should choose a family and that family gets the cookie. As a matter of fact she can just number the families and we'll send the answer in that order.

Well for Lore #2 I found this link

http://www.americanfolklore.net/folktales/mexico3.html

I emailed Taylor about it - but I don't know if she was just wanting to see that it was a folklore or wanting answers about it... I'm sharing w/ the FAMILIA Very Happy

Oh man.. the pressure! I wasn't going to get involved because I thought you guys were well into it... but this was only the second thing, and it happened right in MY TOWN! Do you know how *amazing* that is? ARGs NEVER come to San Diego!

So... how to choose a family... anyway, y'all have the answer so I guess it's a moot point...

Now that I've had some time to look at the next Lore trial.

The main thing to notice on this is that the story written out in attached pictures is very fragmented when compared to the story printed on the website. In fact, if you just read the handwritten notes, you can barely understand what is going on.

I think the key to understanding this puzzle is in the second to last paragraph.

Quote:
I wonder now if my story is verbose or one-sided. Do I tell it only from the perspective of the living? What might it look like in between that and death? Where can I poke holes? Where do I need to cover things up?
Can I understand it in a different way as an adult than I did as a child or a
teenager? I'd like to reshape my words in new but familiar ways. My friend's death – and the ways I have told about it – must symbolize something else when I look at one on top of the other.

Right now, I'm not sure if this means that we just have to figure out all of the missing bits and pieces from handwritten text, or if we're going to do something more hands-on in playing with the picture files (printing them out, cutting holes in the words, stuff like that). I'm attaching a text file of what I believe the handwritten notes actually say (although I'm sure I've introduced some typos into it as it was hard to read in some places - so please refer to the actual notes if you spot a mistake).

----

Okay, I'm pretty sure I have the method, although my results leave a bit to be desired, so someone else might have to figure out where I messed up (if I did).

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
Using the complete story that is printed on the website, I highlighted all of the letters that were included in the handwritten notes. When I did this, one letter appeared in each paragraph. However, the letters I got dont really give me much, so either I goofed up a letter, or the answer is a bit obscure

The letters I got are: F A M O S A S L O U G H
This anagrams to "Famous Galosh" amongst other things, but it makes no sense to me. I can't email from work, so someone else is more than free to submit either the letters or whatever you can anagram from them to see if it's correct.
