[HEROES] 'Heroes' mysteries?
Though not an ARG, there are mysterious elements

I know there has been no word of anything ARG-related with the TV series Heroes which just aired it's 2nd episode tonight, but in watching tonight's episode, it looks like there's at least one mystery that might be worth discussing. As in, something that is obviously intentional, but wasn't addressed in the slightest in the dialog or with the characters...

I'm going to watch the west-coast timeshifting again, and see if I can keep a knowing eye out this time for anything odd other than what I describe below. For all I know, I may have missed another one of those typical 'fake company' commercials.

This whole extended reality thing with serial tv shows seems to be the next big thing...

Anyway, tonight (episode 2) -
Spoiler (Rollover to View):
there were repeated instances of a specific symbol, in a number of paintings, overhead scenes, random clips... a bunch of places. I'm going to make a note of where they showed up. I don't have an image of it (yet), but for now - it looks like an elogated S with a 3 or 4 'ticks' - basically like a section of DNA, where only a few (important?) strands may be shown. Since DNA and mutation plays a big role in this show, I wouldn't be surprised if the 'symbol' is a visual representation of something DNAish.

I thought a character may have mentioned the symbol, but there was no mention of it in the show at all... just clever placements of it through various scenes in the show.

If you've noticed anything else, by all means, mention it here.

Perhaps re-watch the pilot to see if there's anything there?

i caught it repeatedly on isaac's paintings in both episodes, but didn't notice it elsewhere. I was intrigued by it there, though. good catch.

was it the symbol in the DNA(?) code that scrolled across the laptop screen? some of the characters were darker, in a repeating symbol pattern. (my gf caught that and reminded me while i was typing)
EDITED cuz i cant type

I saw the symbol in the pool in the backyard behind the house where the police were investigating. Also I thought I saw a quick shot of it in the data the prof's son was looking at on the laptop.

I noticed it as well but I think it is the Formula or anommally that gives them there powers ...... but I noticed it as well ....... It would be cool if they did build an ARG off of this ...... Its becoming my favorite TV show

I found this on the forums for Heroes

Quote:
That looks to be the DNA strain of the Supers.
You could also see it formed by the hose of the pool vaccum in the house where Sylar struck at the end of the episode.

and why it was at the murder sceen

Quote:
sylar took it as his calling card for the murders

smile.gif that's why you see it in the pool

while I do favour the 'calling card' theory, I'm not yet fully convinced...

the symbol has shown up in a number of places, only one of which I could believe Sylar could have left himself...

I nabbed some clips of any insance of the symbol I could see:

This means it's shown up at both crime scenes (the pool, and Isaac's paintings), on the usb drive, and it looks like Peter drew it in the top right of his drawing... if not exact, then eerily similar.

Yo, folks. I've kinda dropped off the face of the earth because of work, but this seems interesting:

It also appears in the 9th Wonders , starting in the second episode, as the comic insignia. Also, in the scene where they find the flash drive, there's a map with a bunch of pins and strings attached to it. On that map, there is a post-it note that has the logo and two question marks.

There seems to be a crazy amount of depth to this show, and it could become something very arg-like. Already, I've heard about myspace accounts and easter eggs to hidden graphic novel pages.

Check out http://www.9thwonders.com. It's the semi-offical site, and it seems that crew from the show are hanging out there.

The above forum led to the following NBC myspace accounts:

Dunno if there's a rabbithole coming.

Okay. Gotta get to work now before I get in trouble.

Crossover post: I posted the link to this thread here (clicky), where they were discussing this also. Unfortunately, you can't post there unless you have an active account in the MMO City of Heroes, but at least you can look over what they've seen/thought/found/figured.

gah! Missed those... seems to be swaying away from the 'calling card' theory... now I want to watch again and try to spot those two symbols Razz

Website Integration, people!

Today's episode---while also having shameful promotions for Nissan and the iPod, also included a link to a website in small white letters...

www.lasvegasniki.com (and, unfortunately, unlike in the show, there is no Ali Larter erotica).

Thinking this was screaming ARG connections, it turns out the site only redirects to www.9thwonders.com (which is also the name of the comic), which is a Heroes official fansite.

EDIT: Also, the symbol is on the black guy's necklace when the mindreader is in the bar.

It's a bad sign that when I saw the web address for Niki's site that I instantly went here, and not to the actual site? =P Hopefully there'll be some argish elements to this, it'd be fun.

Wasn't that symbol also used as a tattoo on somebody? For some reason I think the back of Niki's neck (under her hair)???

Not Niki, only her other personality/mirror-self, whom people over at the City of Heroes MMORPG boards are calling 'Jessica', which I'm not sure if that's fanon or been actually stated somewhere.
