HEY dont diss on WOTW's that was a sweet movie.
Freetranslation.com is a good site for translation but not working at the moment
Except for the fact that we don't see any war. The "war" was always over the hill, just out of sight, and most of the movie was about being in a basement watching Tim Robbins' over-acting. There was one good special effect, of a dead tripod falling through a building. So there's that.
I digress.
And the fact that the aliens shoot an EMP to turn off all electrical equipment, except for the camcorder that somebody drops which our view point pans down to look through...
It's supposed to be suspenseful, and like it was actually hapenening to them. If it were real life you wouldnt know what was going on either, and you would not be sitting there watching the war like it was a movie.
I've seen worse movie mess ups (AVP2)

I'd like to see the entirety of that lower right hand block translated, as there's a quoted strings that seem not to be exactly the titles we've been told, and there's only two when there's 3 quoted titles mentioned in the translation we were given (Lost, Godzilla, Day After Tomorrow). Another thing about those quoted strings - does Godzilla become 3 words but Day After Tomorrow become one?
where are you getting at?

Both one word
годзиллу Godzilla
послезавтра The Day after Tomorrow. (That's the literal translation!)
I think lost is the 3 word one.

There's one Russian word for 'day after tomorrow', heh. Is there one word for "the second Sunday of the month"?
Whoever translated this managed to rearrange word order and it would seem some of the idiomatic structure, instead of just a totally crude transcription. Interesting.
I'd love to know where this is quoted from.
Some other interesting things to note are that all the images on the bottom of that card or poster or whatever it is are publicity shots, not clips we've seen. One even shows Hud, who we've never seen above the toes in any footage.
Another thing is that when some movies are released abroad, some parts of the plot are even changed. This happens in both editing and translation. Funny how it would seem the French trailer translator heard 'Jensen' yet in the clip from the widget we get that it's Jason they are looking for and shows up to hug Lily a moment or two later. Proof that errors and changes can be made in translations.

Probably be my last translation unless I decide to do the whole thing but the last word on the front is MONSTER..The one really big on the front..
And the bottom sentence..The Last one..смоЖет ли он выЖить в войне с
инопланетным монстром?
Means...will be able it to survive in the war with
the extraterrestrial monster?
Confirmed?
focus on that and not that "lost" is a three letter word or whatever in russia...

Seems pretty much word for word to me, maybe apart from the 'legendary creator' bit
J.J being translated as 4 letters for each 'J' is funny!

Yep, seems the most reasonable idea, although he's probably been sleeping a while.
I don't agree that aliens have been done to death, not collosal ones anyway, I can't think of any skyscraper sized Hollywood aliens actually.

I also seem to recall them calling the movie "Monstor" in Russia.
Flaws do happen. Everyone's just shooting into the dark.
Look at our promotional adds- All we're doing is quoting the commercials and nothing more. There aren't commercials like these going on in other countries.

Holy shit. Another O&A fan on here. Cool. Welcome.
Thank you. Much appreciated.
They'll finally be back on the air tomorrow. Enough with the worst of shows already!!

No, my point is that the EMP is supposed to turn off all electrical equipment, make it useless only it doesn't do that to the video camera that is dropped to the floor.
It's a gaff, a really stupidly obvious gaff.
The rest of the film was just the usual Spielberg being unable to get over his parents divorcing as a child crap in a new setting.
It doesn't even touch the book, radio play, first film or musical, it's sub par.
The best re-imagination of War of the Worlds came from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen volume 2.

I had my brother-in-law translate the text, without seeing anyone elses translation. He's a Russian Linguist in the Air Force, and he's completely fluent. Here's what he said:
Quote:
Top Left:
Cloverfield
Paramount Studio
Director Matt Reeves
Starring Michael Fogel (Poseiden)
Lizzy Caplan (Mean Girls)
Film Genre: Catastrophe, Fiction, Thriller
Top Right:
You won't escape. Just wait. (or All you can do is wait.)
Bottom Right:
A new mystery and innovative disaster film from producer J.J. Abrams, creator of legendary series Lost. New York survived Godzilla, The Day after Tomorrow... Can it survive a war with an extraterrestrial (or alien) monster?
Pretty similar to everyone elses with some slight variations...

"Day After Tomorrow" can be one word e.g. in Greek it's one. It's not you fault that English is a poor language.

How is english the universal language? Something like only 5% of all the people in the world speak it. Surely the universal language would be something like spanish or chinese.

it's comprised of many, many different languages put together. No one group of people created it.

well done dude ! gonna edit this into the main post.
btw nobody said it crashed on earth in its fully evolved stage...
there are plenty of theories like:
1. the "monster" is a parasite ... crashlanded on earth in a meteor - found any sea creature as a host and massivly mutated it.
2. it just crashlanded causing the "earthquake" as said in the trailer
3. crash landed as a huge bitch but was sleeping for thousands of years
