It's times like these that I wish I'd have finished learning Japanese. Oh well, it is very interesting and I look forward to seeing the other installments. And I think it was kosmopol's girlfriend that is Japanese. She's got her work cut out for her now, that's for sure!

Just a note- Babelfish sucks.

Anyway... Heh, thank God I'm taking a Japanese class this semester. XD ... I think there will be four chapters, this being the first, the next coming in February. I'm checking Tokyopop and Viz (two majour manga traslators/publishers) to see if they have the translation rights. Might try Dark Horse ...

"The boy's first ace!" is the babelfish translation of "Shonen Ace". Shonen Ace is a manga magazine in Japan akin to Shonen Jump. So the 'ace' part simply refers to what magazine it's being published in. Also, Kishin means 'machine god', I think.

^^^ Agreed - Shounen Ace is one of the manga publishers in Japan.

Translation of what was on the info blurb:

"A first for Shounen Ace! We're releasing a limited time online comic!! A grand tale wrapped in mystery, what harsh future awaits our young hero (literally: this youth)!?

Cloverfield / Kishin

Releasing 4 episodes, the next will be in late February! Back issues will not be available so don't miss out!"

First page of comic with the squid:

"Why was I born? (Literally: What is the reason I was born)"

"If this is fate... then its nothing but darkness..."

"I wonder if I have any ability to escape from this..."

And then the rest of this chapter is basically Kishin-kun being beat up and flashing back to how his mother died and then the bullies taunting him with how he should have died with his mother, etc...

(I lived in Japan for 3 years and used to translate manga like this.)

From what I gather, the ships are pulling the monster. Everyone has wondered where the monster comes from before its attack on NYC, like a random act in a series of violence... Has anyone considered that, perhaps, Tagruato is escorting the monster to NYC?

Heck of a marketing strategy... Have a monster attack their country, and then they will be begging for a beverage that makes them larger (Slusho, anyone?)

Does that make any sense to anyone?

The guys on the ship don't seem tense enough to be purposefully pulling the monster. I think the ship is trolling the ocean floor and drags up the monster and this is the moment he is discovered. Perhaps they are even dragging a sonar unit and this is where those images come from that the Whistle Blower sent out.

Okay, so the parcel... is it the monster? Or a bunch of sea nectar? If it's sea nectar, and the monster appears at the end, can we assume that the monster is attracted to said nectar? And if so, is that why he goes to NYC, because of the sample sent by Teddy?

... Wait. That would require the MGP to have an INTENSE sense of smell.

OMG! MGP is SNUFFALUFFAGUSS from Sesame Street!
