[BLOG] Ariadne: Take the Secret Oath

I was already wondering why Larissa tweeted something about an "oath of the agonothetai" this evening ...
Quote:

Sexta Feira é a abertura das Olimpíadas. Também farei meu juramento agonothetai no mesmo dia!

Now we know why!
http://www.findthelostring.com/ariadne/detail.do?postId=1790

Edit:
I wonder ... is it deliberate that the Oath uses the plural form "omphaloi" instead of the singular "omphalos"?

The singular "omphalos" should be correct, because vera and unuopa in the phrase "la vera, unuopa όμφαλοί" are singular.

Yes, it should. That's why I wondered whether the mistake was deliberate. (And it's already in the codex and cannot be explained away as a poor transcription that mistakes a sigma for a iota!) I hate bad Greek. And being a smartass. Wink

I see.

I think the six are going to take the Oath soon, so I just hope they'll avoid wrong phrases and record nice videos.

http://www.findthelostring.com/ has been down for a few hours now ...

Here's the message:

Quote:
Take the Secret Oath during the Olympic Opening Ceremonies!

Hi everyone. The Olympics are about to begin! In this world, and in ALL the worlds.

And we have to take the oath before or during the Opening Ceremonies this weekend at 8:08 PM Beijing Time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScRqfrH8e6E&feature=related
Here's a video of James practicing his oath... in English AND Esperanto! (You can take the oath in any language, some translations below!)

What's the oath? You remember Chapter 18 of the lost ring codex, right? It has the secret oath of the agonothetai. That's US! We're the game keepers for the multiverse Olympiad in this world. We're the only people who can take the oath.

Be sure to add your oath video to youtube or dotsub or flickr and tag it lostring and oath!

Find out when 8:08 PM Beijing time is in your part of the world using this World Time Zone Clock.

Here are translations of the oath for everybody. (Follows the oath from ch. 18 of the codex)

Edit: Ariadne's blog seem to be suffering hiccups with its latest post - postId=1791 - regarding the completion of our omphalabyrinth network. Five minutes ago, I managed to open the main site, including this new post with additional omphalab pictures - when I clicked on "read more", however, I was cast into www nirvana ... And now that new post is gone again.

May I suggest some slight modifications to the oath's text? As many as possible of us should take it in Esperanto as well, to make sure that we really speak the original text.

Quote:
ENGLISH

All the parallel worlds are equally real.

One, however, is the original world,
the world from which history was born,
the world from which the totality of knowledge of the many originated.

The original world is the true unique omphalós, the navel of reality itself.

There the Oracle of Delphi first acquired vision.

There the Oracle of Delphi became the first to see the many,
the first to see the six,
the first to witness the change.

We will protect the one true omphalós against the change, by means of the glory of our sport, and the honor of our teams.

We convene in the spirit of unity.
We rescued the one to save the many.

As one circle of athletes we celebrate the world, for the celebration of all the worlds.

Quote:
