This is pure speculation, but the file cabinet could refer to the archives on Little-Boxes. There are a great many directories there, and the URL paths under the "archives" folder go down several layers. For instance:

http://www.little-boxes.net/archives/
http://www.little-boxes.net/archives/KnowledgeBase/
http://www.little-boxes.net/archives/KnowledgeBase/attachments/

The Grabbing Internet Files (GIF) may refer to attached images in the knowledge base. Maybe some of the deleted documents have/had attached images? Maybe there are hidden files or folders? Of course, this is all unfounded--just speculation.

Archive #58 is supposed to have an attachment, but doesn't.

Attached is the possible file names and directories of little boxes and the software used to manage the site.

Dear Anonymous Guest,
In hopes of keeping this discussion on topic (though I'm not necessarily sure that this^ is off-topic), I responded to you here Smile Smile

So we have file numbers 1, 4, 9, and 25. All perfect squares, except 16 is left out. Why?

Well, the roots are: 1, 2, 3, 5.

Can you say Fibonacci? I'm betting the next file will be 01000000.jpg, for 64, root 8.

But theres another 1 left out either before or after that 1.

Someone else said this, but its pretty much impossible to have two of the same files... i mean, don't expect a different image with the same name... so the 1s may be fine the way they are.

But they have 2 #9 files now, no? So the sequence is 1, 4, 9, 9, 25?

If you wanted to call me a liar, you could have just said so... heh..

Alas... I'm obviously an idiot... but that then means there is only one 0000001.jpg or whatever...

Has anyone tried looking for more GIFs on PaintedOver?

This throws a perverbial wrench in my brain.

but just spec'ing out loud ya know...

I prefer keeping what's known about this in spoiler form:

Spoiler (Rollover to View):
From the official site for the game:
"When does the game take place?"
The Matrix Online timeline takes place after The Matrix Revolutions, the third Matrix movie....

Also:
"Where does The Matrix Online take place?"
The Matrix Online takes place within the Matrix. No "real world" game play will take place. Characters in The Matrix Online will be logged into the Matrix and aboard a hovercraft at broadcast depth.

All from the FAQ.

Why do you think this has anything at all to do with The Matrix Online? As far as I know, that's a MMORPG, just like Everquest. All available evidence points to the fact that this has nothing officially to do with The Matrix at all. I mean, The Matrix already has an extensive online presence, and as of yet, there has been absolutely NO connection between any 'official' promotional material (posters, http://www.whatisthematrix.com, enter the matrix, the animatrix or reloaded DVDs) and this game.

In other words, this is being done by some enthusiastic fans. So I wouldn't look to any official matrix material for help in this game.

plus, even if we didnt discount that... why couldnt we assume that the good guys win in the end, and the matrix isnt reloaded, but left standing so they can pull 'em out slowly unshockingly..

Lol... sorry...

Anyway, I'm looking at the text from the steg, and it seems to suggest this to me:
www.theaquapolis.com/?????/carefully.*

I think most everybody here has already agreed on something approximating that. So what's our holdup? The "????" directory? So, lets throw some guesses out there and send bizrock on his way Wink. Where is he, btw? *blows kisses at thebizrock*

To generally answer the people who mention that this may be another version of the Matrix, 7.0 or whichever, keep in mind that Thomas Anderson was in the directory. So we have to be in Matrix 6.0, unless there just happens to be another Thomas Anderson in another version who mysteriously "transferred"... or, if we're in 7.0, then maybe Neo and/or the machine powers-that-be felt like inserting that info for sentimental reasons, heehee.

Sorry, that was random spec. My point was that we're in version 6.0. Very Happy Therefore, plot hole. Sorry, guys. Very Happy

yeah, I just posted a theory that reaches the same concusion at.

http://forums.unfiction.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2661&start=19

I stopped thinging in terms of "where in the storyline..?" a while ago, it's just not relevant based on what we know.

I just see it as a distraction, keeping people from the real task of solving these puzzles.

The holdup is that it's not really feasible to brute force a directory tree there are just too many permutations.

With the carelessly files we got lucky (and had a bit of help) but it was easier because the search was restricted to only three characters.

The clue could be hinting at several layers of directory (climb those stairs carefully), that would make things even worse.

So, lets stop discussing the storyline (especially in this thread) and hack something already, lol!
As far as I see it - though we did not in any shape or form figure out what the first hack meant (the carelessly files), we already have some new place to go. Probably still Aquapolis, and we have to figure out another directory (hopefully NOT another login), right?

WHO and HOW guessed the "urchins" directory?

I have no clue as to how to even begin thinking about the directory structure, but you think that we just need more clues, and should wait until they give us some? Maybe the clues are already "cyphered" in the carelessly files? Or maybe we should figure out why they were "meeting" there, i.e. - where were they going after that?

Huh? I didn't say anything about brute-forcing them. But, imo, it was an accident - we already had almost all the files by the time somebody suggested "Brut[e] Us".

I think it's more a case of - we had all the files when somebody realised that's what the clue meant.

The clue was there before the files were found.
