Sydney IMAX trailer event Summary: Just like the other cities.
2 minute trailer played twice.
Flynn Lives t-shirts (strictly 1 per person) handed out after the event.
As I came over the footbridge towards the Sydney IMAX I saw a massive crowd milling around the entrance. For a second I thought the event was larger than I had anticipated but then I realised that the crowd was there for the Chinese New Year dragon boat races on Darling Harbour.
My ticket was checked outside the entrance before I was let in "this is a private event", prior to being collected by a different lady just inside the door. There were barricades barring access to the candy bar and directing everyone past the security checkpoint. I had my mobile phone out and ready to hand in, but security asked that I check in my bag "it'll be easier this way". At this point I became very hopeful of some puzzles to solve inside the theatre since I had been separated from both my electronic recording device and my pencil/post-it notes. I was handed a pair of 3d glasses and I made my way inside to sit down. There were no posters, promotional materials or arcade machines in sight.
By 10am there were perhaps 100 people inside. A pixelated(!) IMAX logo was displayed until 10:05 when the lights went down. The trailer started without preamble.
2 minutes later the lights came up again and the entire audience looked around at each other with raised eyebrows. I was thinking, ok, that was short, but surely there would be more to follow. A couple of people stood up to leave. Just then the Disney representative (Mikala) started to speak. She verified that that was it. Instead of the applause that you would normally expect from fans seeing an exclusive trailer, the room was filled with derisive laughter. Apparently the filmmakers wanted the fans to be the first to see the trailer. We were told that the trailer would be played again, but it would take 15 minutes to reset the projector. I stayed, but approximately half the people left.
During the interlude I tried to strike up conversation about the arg to no avail. Mikala chatted to a few people in the front row, mentioning that only 5 cities worldwide got to see the trailer, that she would be glad to be getting home after the event and how she wished she had been able to go on a trip to the Blue Mountains this weekend. Given the sign-up process and exclusive nature of the tickets, she was surprised and a little upset that people had laughed when it was clear how short the preview was.
After the clip played for the second and final time I left. The security collection was a breeze because there were so few people. I was pleasantly surprised to see four members of staff handing out t-shirts on the way out. Swag! I heard someone ask "what is Flynn lives?" in a perplexed voice before they disappeared into the crowd outside.
I would have liked to have seen the comic-con trailer on the big screen as well as the new footage that I saw today. I got the impression that the Disney rep would have gladly screened it for us if she could have.
A number of people have commented here on unfiction that expectations for this event were too high. Basically I have similar sentiments to thebruce . There was a captive audience and a wasted opportunity to get more people excited about the wider promotion and the Tron: Legacy movie itself.
I was at an unrelated exclusive preview event at the Sydney IMAX earlier this week. The audience reaction couldn't have been more different. The entire foyer was decked out in banners and posters, the screening was considerably longer and there were activities in the foyer afterwards. I felt that the organisers were catering to their audience.
Edited to add: I would have loved to have seen a recording of the Los Angeles Q&A at the Sydney event. LA transcript

By the way, if anyone reading this has a large Flynn Lives and/or Flynn's Arcade shirt they would consider selling/trading, please let me know, as I'm drooling over these!

Saw the trailer in London with Agent Lex - the general reaction both here and at the event is understandable, we waited the better part of an hour for a two minute trailer and an oversized T shirt (I got some pies to eat if I wanna get into an XL shirt).
That said, the trailer was frakkin' incredible. Once you get inside the computer and the 3D really hits you, fuhgeddaboutit. It'll be online in a couple of days hopefully, so everybody can partake in the awesomenes.
The funny thing is I was kind of expecting this - they did something similar in the TDK game where they had us meet at a location and be given directions over the phone by a friend sat in front of the WSS site. We were running around the centre of the city for about an hour following clues etc before we were led to the cinema where they were gonna show the final theatrical trailer. At the end of it the sentiment was pretty much the same as it is now - a lot of build up for a two minute clip that only screens once.
The difference between that event and this one was there wasn't any waiting around for TDK - we were kept busy with the clue hunt/trail, which was exciting enough in itself. Here we were kept waiting in a queue for around an hour for a 1.30pm showing that didn't actually open it's doors until 1.55pm. Nobody likes waiting in queues.
Also, as a lot of people have pointed out, there wasn't any real connection to the FL site - whereas with the TDK campaign there were the copies of the 'Jokerized' trailer handed out to one person in each location.
Again, the trailer was perfect, it made my eyes feel like they were having sex and I do not regret going AT ALL. But the experience surrounding it on the day was not all that - it needed to be more immersed within the game, especially if the idea is to sustain the momentum so far built up for the film by the game for another ten months .

LA Trailer I was one of the ones able to get and attend then LA Event.
I got there rather early due to the expected rain causing problems, and actually it didn't. It took about an hour from my place in the Riverside area. I found my place in line (which was rather short at the time) and my +1 showed up and we chatted with a couple others while waiting. After maybe an hour (since I didn't have my cell phone....left it in the car) we were given wristbands and showed our tickets to be checked off their list. Maybe a half hour after that we were brought inside (this was at about 1:30) probably due to more rain coming in. While waiting in line, various people came though making sure to remind us no recording devices (or any electronic devices of any kind) were allowed in and told we could check them to be picked up later. We also were given the 3D glasses for the screening.
Probably about 15 - 20 minutes til 2:30, they started ushering us in after wanding everyone and we went to our seats. At one point they told us that it would be a full house and to move to take up those blank seats everyone likes to leave between themselves. There was also one row that was for VIPs (including the Original Tron director Lisberger).
Shortly after 2:30 the lights went out and the trailer started. I for one was not disappointed..... this looks AWESOME and for me was well worth the wait. The two best scenes for me was the giant Recognizer looming and the very end with the light cycles.... we've all heard the description of the trailer so I won't go further with that.
The lights come on and we have some applause and someone starts a "ONE MORE TIME" chant. That's when director Kosinski gets up and introduces himself and cracks a joke that he isn't ready to leave until they screen it again (applause from the audience), and explains since this is FILM, it would take about 15 minutes to rewind and to kill the time would entertain questions from the audience and the good questions would get a signed Legacy poster(turns out all questioners who got to ask got the posters). After some interesting questions (what's with the Daft Punk obsession anyway???) we got to see the trailer one more time and then exited the theater into the lobby where they were handing out Flynn Lives T-Shirts (I managed to get two..... might have a spare Large to give away....there might be a claim on it already). After finally finding my way back to the parking garage and my car I headed out.
Great trailer..... I love the effort in putting this together, and can't wait to see what 42 has in store for us now. The only thing that would have made this better, is if I could have gotten my hands on one of those BITS

Does anyone who attended one of the trailers have the ability to return to the theater where they were hosted and check any of the TL posters via a portable black light for clues? Working on getting someone to swing by the NY location to do this.

No chance that I can get back to the LA theater...... would love to, but it's a bit far for me.

Never fear, I've already checked them all at the London theatre. Because there were none.

Two sets of eyes here saw nothing advertising Tron Legacy at the IMAX cinema in Sydney.
Haven't checked the tees we got yet as I cannot find a blacklight to save my life!
Store staff are reacting like I'm asking for fetish gear or something when I ask... it's very odd

Tell them that every hour you go without it, you can't do your job and another innocent victim dies.

I'll be checking the NY location today. That said- I wish one of the stars had been there for our screening, and not just so that they would have rewound the footage. Do you remember any of the questions/answers?
