downtown LA isnt like downtown SD or SF...its large and theres not much there except staples center, the convention center, a shopping area, and the music center. its mostly office buildings, not a place where people go for interest

Pershing Square?

I don't think the walking distance would matter... seeing as it was also quite a walk from Wondercon to Justin Herman Plaza (if I'm not very much mistaken).

Sigh... Coming soon. No release date.
Looks quite a bit like the game from Flynn's Arcade at last years Comic-Con. Kinda to be expected, eh? Wonder if it's the same game with an emulator or the same code from the stand-up.
Can't wait to check it out! Will it have online multiplayer? Guess we'll have to wait and see.

It definitely looks more keyboard/mouse controlled though... quick, short movements and kind of typical FPS-type gameplay, but with the classic appearance of SP. I think depending on how they code it, it could actually end up being a pretty nifty game.

Dang it! I just hit FB and saw that listed by Flynn Lives. Tired of being late to the party.

Hey! No whining! Some of us had to be at work when this stuff turned up. Razz

Looks pretty slick to me. Considering the pace of the game, I give at least a 'beta' 1-2 weeks to show up.

I bet playing the game will unlock new images from the movie (for getting to certian lvls or something), or have clues for the ARG that leads to the next big event.

Maybe the next big planned event will be during San Diego Comic Con 2010, which I *will* be at.

One thing that I'm hoping for that would be super awesome would be something along the lines of being able to get out of the tank, into the recognizer though some 'code exploit' that was left behind or something, and being able to further find out about the world of tron on our own. My eyes would light up like Christmas morning if that happens. And I'm Jewish so that's saying something... Very Happy

Another hope is that the game changes over time with new content, certainly possible.

I get the impression that the game will be really, really difficult. Probably not what everyone is hoping for.
Limited amount of shots (9?) and you have to find more ammo when you run out. It takes three shots to kill a Recognizer. If a Recognizer gets straight overhead you die, so no running underneath them trying to escape.
Sounds like it could be a fun time-waster for an hour than frustration and tedium will probably set in for most. Especially after the novelty wears off.

Not trying to be a kill-joy, just suitably lowering expectations so everybody doesn't whine and moan when it finally arrives.

a valid point. i remember being frustrated with the game a bit at Flynn's Arcade last summer (although i did beat level 1, which it seemed quite a few people were struggling with.) One thing id like to point out that is different between the arcade game and online is the fact that there is no trackball (in my opinion the trackball, which seemed a little "over-oiled"/hard to control, is in part what made it difficult to play)

for anyone that doesnt know what i'm talking about:

So...

Anyone from the US plan on staying up for the release of space paranoids? I believe the countdown will get to zero in the early morning hours of thursday.
