Check? You mean, dig for gold? I hope you have a pickaxe.

I'd love to see you get that pickaxe to the Statue of Liberty. Good luck with that, Cap'n Smile.

Lady Liberty

You can't go up to the "Crow's nest", you can't say "steel" (because it's copper)... all the French references... plus the crown?

Just sayin'. Plus, it's so freakin' obvious we might naturally overlook it. Wink

Heck... it worked in Ghostbusters 2... sorta... kinda. Not really though.

Ellis Island
uninhabitated small island near Ellis Island

Remind this tourist: What is the small, unihabitated island in the vicinity of Ellis Island that a boy got stranded on in the past few years. That would be a very cool place to hide a pirate's treasure.

Brainstorming statue of liberty... in advance of asking:

http://www.virtualbirdseye.com/2008/04/23/liberty-island-statue-of-liberty-aerial-and-birds-eye-view/

Note the base in bird's eye view looks like a throwing star.

Recall how Mulligan seemed to be running by in Episode 1 with a torch.

Note that the Captain in a later episode lifts his lamp. (see trailer)

A plaque at the pedestal's entrance is inscribed with a sonnet, "The New Colossus" (1883) by Emma Lazarus. It was written to help raise money for the pedestal, and it reads:

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

places the gold won't be buried

Being a current resident of the "if you see something, say something" post 9-11 NY, here are a few places the gold WILL NOT be buried at:

World Trade Center
Statue of Liberty
Battery Park
Central Park
Grand Central
Times Square
..I'd even go so far as to say all of Manhattan

To add to that list:

Downtown Brooklyn (Montague St., Court St., etc.)
it's the court district. Actually ANY of the court districts in any of the 5 counties.

The Island

By the way...the island to the right of Larry King's shoulder on the light board looks an awful lot like the exact shape of Governor's Island from an aerial view...just my opinion.

very interesting
indeed

I think my most recent "solution" needs to be refined slightly.

As you may recall, I had concluded that the principal clues were the colors shown in the background of the video feeds of the characters displayed during THE LARRY KING show, along with the infographic showing the list of questions which the public was seeking answers to.

I then created a trail involving taking the Orange line from Columbus Circle to 34th Street / Herald Square where it meets up with a Yellow line, then taking the Orange or Yellow line to Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue or Forest Hills-71 Avenue in Queens where it meets up with a Blue line. The final step was to take the Orange or Yellow line back through Manhattan and into Brooklyn where those lines converge again in an area where there is a Blue line above them - namely the Atlantic Ave area (and maybe further east near Prospect Park.)

Anyway, on further reflection I think that I should have focused on the station where the Blue line above the other lines was located, rather than the station where the Orange, Orange, Yellow and Yellow lines converged.

The Blue line stop closest to Atlantic Ave is the Lafayette Ave / Fulton Street station. One of the exits of this station is on N. Portland Ave in Brooklyn. According to this website (which cites to this book as its source) N. Portland Ave and S. Portland Ave were named "for a London street, Portland Place, a busy street near Regent's Park, laid out by Robert and James Adam in 1773, and named for the aristocratic House of Portland."

It is a stretch, but perhaps this is what the Port of Cortland clue referred to, using a C/P substitution on Cortland of course. Portland Ave starts from Atlantic Ave in the south, runs north (as S. Portland Ave) until it hits Fort Greene Park, and then continues north after the park as N. Portland Ave until it terminates at Flushing Ave, which is the beginning of the Brooklyn Navy Yard. So perhaps the park we will be in next (if the next destination is indeed a park) will be Fort Greene Park?

Great re-evaluation Wink

Mario was not lying
There is a photo of him and Mulligan

It is in the '$10.000 burried in NY traler at the end of 1:21, going into 1:22, Mario with a lollypop in his mouth. He has his hand under Mulligans trouser strap, and maybe that is something in his hand. Shocked

Pretty sure the cat in the tree and Dinkins is a reference to the World Trace Center bombing in 1993 (next to Cortland St. station).

I can see how the fire department response and Dinkins can relate to this, but do the cat and the tree fit in somehow? How about the other details: 45 minutes; mucked up his yard; had coffee when he had said they couldn't (disagreement with FF union about breaks or something??).

Hand on his shoulder, and Mario is wearing a wristwatch. See page 45 of this thread.

International Pickle Day

The ticker mentions that the "Apple vs. Pickle Pay-per-view event" has been canceled. Big Apple is an obvious interpretation. Pickles are a traditional New York food (what isn't, I suppose you could say). The tenth annual International Pickle Day is coming up. Hasn't been canceled so far as I can tell, although there are few pickle specialists left. Does anyone have other interpretations of this item?

Apple vs PiCkle??
