Just to point out, regarding the trouble inputting 1/2 as numbers instead of Y/N. The 0 (zero) is working on the numpad, and i remember reading something about a keyboard manipulator software changing up the mapping of the keys. I'm wondering if that method can be used to identity 1 and 2 as actual numbers instead of it being recognized as Y/N.

This is probably a long-shot, and i have nothing more to offer than an idea, and a hazy memory.

My personal opinion is the STIES site, the picture, and the Craiglist posting has exhausted itself of clues for us to find. But that doesn't mean they won't be updated later on, or we missed something (sorry for referencing *we*, i did nothing to contribute, so it's all you guys).

I dont want to derail any ideas but I would like for us to take a look down another avenue for a moment.

As has been typical of ARG's in the past each clue points to another and then that clue points to another, etc. I feel like we have spent to much time analyzing the clues we have and less time looking for the path they are pointing to.

the trailer pointed to STIES, STIES gave us a print out with a message, tones, and then another printout that pointed that pointed to craigslist, (sold post it). Now we have the CL things likely pointing to HLM.com and then we are just dead in the road.

So far, the things that have been out of focus or in the background have contained the next set of information (disregarding the tones, which seem to be more of an homage to Spielberg than anything else.). Lets consider what we currently have that is out of focus or in the background, considering only CL and HLM which both are IG IMHO.

We have all but exhausted the information on the pegboard behind the objects on CL, except we took almost no notice of the Sled, which is blurred (the only blurred image at that). Also, what do each of the items have in common aside from the estate sale? 2 are ceramic containers, then there is the dress, sled and clock, which seem to have very little in common aside from age. We took a close look at the clock and I am not quite sure where we stand with the numbers being displayed, though i recall our observation that it is a "working" clock and that may be of some significance.

On HLM the BG pic appears to have some distortions but I do not think we need excessive analysis to find the clue. As with the sold note, it was a simple contrast and lighting analysis that revealed the words, plus, we probably could have figured it out from the box, tape and scissors.

So HLM should hold something that is pointing us to the next clue, but what is it?

Can we please compile a list of items on the page and continue to break them down until we think we find a clue.

Agreed. The game summary has speculation sections below facts for each known known, which also contains unsolved clues. It should be reasonably up to date. We're on a holding path waiting, but it's only been 2 weeks since our last bite and 7 days since last contact(!!).. Patience I think is required, clues will come-In the mean time more stooge based monsters Evil or Very Mad Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil , enigmatic insights or knights move theories !!!

Good find on Josh and the CL items...question to the OP

How the hell did you manage to stumble over those? How'd that come about?

As for me, I'm leaning still to the path that the items were likely estate sale as mentioned early on, so this with Josh seems to confirm that.

So, Josh's mom/grandmom/aunt whoever dies and he's getting rid of stuff. So he also found the camera an whatever's on it and "meanwhile" checks out the UFO site for help.

Could it also be a case that Josh was the buyer, the package came to him, he went through it and got the camera and other stuff, the camera is useful and now he's just looking to unload the woman's "junk"?

I've been through this thread from top to bottom, but it was a while ago and I don't think this was ever discussed. Nothing really comes from it...just speculation still but we're doing a lot of that in this thread, so here:

The assumption seems to be that Josh is taking the pic in the STIES printout and is showing someone that he has the film. There is NO evidence for this. In fact, in my point of view, the evidence heavily points to the notion that he is NOT the person photgraphing the leader on the film.

I see three parties here:

Josh - Owns HLM.com, fish enthusiast, looking for Coelacanth, mom died, selling stuff on craigslist, sends hat to someone who bought it.

Buyer of Hat (BOH) - Recieves hat. Not clear whether or not BOH had knowledge of film/hat relation before purchasing hat, but seems likely that he did. Evidence of this is the hat and box in the background of the picture as though the only thing he wanted from the package was the film. The packing tape roll goes unexplained however...

STIES Enigmatic Party (EP) - Whoever is contacting the BOH via STIES. There is not much known about EP except that he has "proof," he does not want BOH to continue posting publically, and that he believes something has "reactivated" and wants to lay low for a bit.

There is no eivdence to suggest that EP is not Josh. I believe this is a possibility.

The enigmatic nature of EP, to me, relates to the only other enigmatic figure we've encountered: "Mr. Wilson" from Josh's Coelacanth journal.

Edit for clarification.

This is my first post here at Unfiction. I've become really interested in the Super 8 ARG, and I plan on following it from now on.

I was reading through hundreds of the previous posts, and after getting a pretty clear picture of what was going on, I was left with just one question: How were the craigslist sales found? I couldn't recall anyone saying how these were found. I even did a search, which came up empty.

From what I've gathered, someone just said "look at this" then someone did a search for similar estate sales on the same day. But this doesn't explain how the first one originated. Did someone do an image search for the hat/box?

I'm know I've probably missed something, but I've searched for the better part of a few days, and couldn't find anything. I know I'll probably get chewed out for this post, but my curiosity got the better of me. Please forgive me if I've missed something completely obvious, I'll attribute it to the information overload from the hours of pouring over these forums.

Via the new printout from the PDP-11. The sold box in the background had area code '25801' which led to the estate sale.

Thanks for the help. I didn't think that an area code would be enough to find a specific item on craigslists. Admittedly, I've never used craigslist, so excuse my ignorance. Just wanted a clear picture of all the amazing discoveries here on Unfiction.

Hopefully I can start contributing in a positive manner in the near future. Thanks again.

Hate to be Debby Downer here, but part of me is starting to wonder if somethings we think are IG are actually OOG. My main concern is the phone number.

Although it was discovered in a very traditional ARG manner, the fact it seemed to be a dead end has me wondering. I know people have left messages for him, but has anyone got a response?

Maybe I'm just getting a little worried that the calls where to someone real dealing with a real loss and we think it's a game. I don't know. Just thinking.

I think what we have to remember is that the PM's are laying down the groundwork for what is to come in the next 10 months or so. It appears we will have several subplots going at once.. as of now, we have many clues but none of them seem to connect to anything yet. They are all single moves so we cant take anything anywhere right now..Just one clue away from some answers I hope..
However, the phrase "are you ready to begin?" at the end of the RP letter indicates to me that we are just moments from getting to the meat on this Arg-bone..

Was it a dead end? Via the phone number we arrived at hooklineandminker.com, which I think the consensus is IG (OR Josh is real, quite lonely, and using a death in the family to boost his blog).. I'd like to think that if we were that off track, there would be other signs and maybe the organisers would nudge away. Originally was dubious but think evidence is certainly for. Still think that maybe tone has something to do with voicemail code but not had time to play recently....

Agreed, let's exercise some patience here, players.

The newspaper mail-in coupon to join RP was a dead end... right up until we got letters back from it registering our astronaut names (undoubtably for future online ID use).

The STIES site was a dead end... until it revealed a new photo and the whole Minker thing.

Give the game time to unfold. Guessing about what's next and waiting to see if it pays off is part of the fun in this phase.

This ARG is just *beginning* so don't expect the game to play at full speed, we have SO LONG to go in this. It's MUCH better for the game to start slow and build to full speed when the film releases than start big and fade out before the film opens.

Missing a clue on the HLM site/1-800 number

Debbie,

I've considered that we're climbing the wrong tree respecting the Minker family, but if the 1-800 number is OOG, you would have thought that the "Minker family" would have discontinued the phone number by now, I mean it's been over three months since "Evelyn" assumed room temperature, and yet the number is still in service.

Badion wrote, with "brackets" being my comments:

"…we took almost no notice of the Sled, which is blurred (the only blurred image at that). Also, what do each of the items have in common aside from the estate sale? 2 are ceramic containers [knick-knacks], then there is the dress [and hat, both clothing], sled [travel?, "Rosebud" ref?] and clock [time]…"

[I've mentioned this before but one of the biggest differences I've noticed with the items posted on craigslist is the clock.

While the other listings use a dash (-) between "Estate Sale" and the other items (ex. Estate Sale – Old Sled ), only the clock uses the question mark (?), "Antique Clock.Estate Sale {?} Horse Clock," and while the other items are listed in one category, only the clock is in two separate ones, posted in the Antiques section: http://swv.craigslist.org/atq/
and in the General section: http://swv.craigslist.org/for/, with both linked to:
http://swv.craigslist.org/atq/1797809591.html]

HLM should…point… us to the next clue…?

…compile a list of items on the page…break them down until we…find a clue."

[Of the fish in the Fish slider, I looked for seven letter words indicating (with the addition of the 1-800 prefix) a phone number. Of those, I came up with:
OAR FISH [sat tv service]"
LAMPREY ["Ajax"?]

From the coelacanth blog, I've looked for words that could be construed as numbers/numerals, odd words, grammatic errors, seven word sentences and seven letter words (for possible telephone links). For example:

"I've had so much fun putting it together I {ROMAN NUMBER ONE?} thought I'd try a secondary {NUMBER 2?}…

…my passion doesn't end {why not the word "stop?"}with the Coelacanth – there are a lot of other rare fish out there who {why not the word "that?"} need our help. Oh – and to {NUMBER TWO?} answer…

… would've been a horrible mobster {very close to horrible monster?})…

… Said he'd get back to me by the end of the week {NUMBER 7?}. Fingers {NUMBER 5?} crossed {CROSSED = TWO?}…. I've emailed five {NUMBER 5} or so and only one {NUMBER ONE}

… I am quite knowledgable {misspelled}…

…segue my career into {EXPRESSION FOR DIVISION?} home aquariums full-time {NUMBER 40 FOR HOURS IN A WORK WEEK?}! …starting to {NUMBER TWO} get a{n?} allergic reaction to paper products {LITERAL OR FIGURATIVE?}.

[The April 13th comment on his blog contains 3 seven word sentences (possible telephone numbers?)]:

"Still haven't heard back from "Mr. Wilson."

"Think I might give that avenue up."

"Might have to sell some old things."

[All numbers (with the 1-800 prefix) led nowhere IG.

So, I think that I and others have no doubt parsed words, sentences, photos, etc. on the HLM site till we're having nightmares within nightmares over what is and isn't a viable clue to follow up on. If you have any suggestions, go for it. All theories are welcome.]
