[SPEC] 1979 Oxford train derailment (Ohio)
And other train spec

Ok I hope this hasnt came up already but i was doing a little digging.

So we pretty much have to assume that this train in the trailer had to be heading to Wright-Patterson Airforce base since it is the only Airforce base in Ohio and it convieniantly is located on a railroad.

WP wiki
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wright_Patterson

Ohio railroad maps:
http://www.mapsofworld.com/usa/states/ohio/ohio-railway-map.html

Ok so at this point I was looking for a wreck around that time and found the link below. I tells of a freight derailment in Oxford Ohio on July 21, 1979 in the paragraph below the second picture.

http://www.robertpence.com/md_baltimore_1979/md_baltimore_1979.html

Oxford is right on the way Wright-Patterson if you went through Chicago. Which from Area 51 (also right by a railraod) you would have to go up to Salt Lake City which is dead west of Chicago.

US Rails map:
http://www.mapsofworld.com/usa/usa-rail-map.html

Problem is I cant find any kind of officail page on this derailment? Any help would be useful as it seems this fits way to well. Also a railway map from 1979 would be helpful as we could retrace the route of the train in case any of the rails now were not there then.... And I hope this somehow leads us somewhere.

The train IS heading to Wright-Patt since it's confirmed by the radio communication from the trailer.

Here is derailment incident reports from 1979-1980:

Title: Phosphorus Trichloride Release in Boston and Maine Yard During Switching Operations, Somerville, MA, April 3, 1980.
NTSB Report Number: HZM-81-01, adopted on 2/26/1981
NTIS Report Number: PB81-172397

Title: Illinois Central Gulf Railroad Company Freight Train Derailment, Hazardous Material Release and Evacuation, Muldraugh, Kentucky, July 26, 1980.
NTSB Report Number: RAR-81-01, adopted on 2/3/1981
NTIS Report Number: PB81-163511

Title: Liberian Tank Vessel M/V Seatiger Explosion and Fire Sun Oil Terminal Nederland, Texas, April 19, 1979.
NTSB Report Number: MAR-80-12, adopted on 9/2/1980
NTIS Report Number: PB81-100372

Title: Louisville & Nashville Railroad Co. Freight Train Derailment & Puncture of Hazardous Materials Tank Cars - Crestview, Florida, April 8, 1979.
NTSB Report Number: RAR-79-11, adopted on 9/13/1979
NTIS Report Number: PB80-103567

Title: Derailment of L & N Railroad Company's Train No. 584 and Subsequent Rupture of Tank Car Containing Liquefied Petroleum Gas, Waverly, Tennessee, Feb. 22, 1978.
NTSB Report Number: RAR-79-01, adopted on 2/8/1979
NTIS Report Number: PB-292407/AS

That's all I could come up with. During that time the NTSB also put out several other guides related to transporting hazardous cargo.

Of course, please keep in mind that the train wreck might have not happened in real life and it might be there for entertainment purposes only. In that case information about it would come only from IG sites.

Ok. the trains destination in the trailer is Dayton Ohio (Wright Patterson AFB)

That base has a train station in it.

Theres only one track through Dayton

The train was headed East (coming from the West)

If we follow the tracks westward 2170.64' we should be able to pinpoint the location of the crash. (assume Dayton or the AFB station as the point)

Or alternately, theres only one rail network SW out of Dayton, so THAT is the one that should have that marker

Jan 12, 1979 - Train derailment after collision with truck

http://news.google.com/newspapers?id=-KIrAAAAIBAJ&sjid=o_wFAAAAIBAJ&pg=4127,2099575&dq=ohio+train&hl=en

Unfortunately the incident occurred in Michigan... a bit out of our way. However, it is rather curious...

crossing number to help find crash

if we can work out the crossing number that will help:

here is a link to run a query by railroad crossing number, i just ran it from 000000 - 999999 to get them all in: http://safetydata.fra.dot.gov/OfficeofSafety/PublicSite/Crossing/Xingqryxing.aspx you can run other searches to on this website including location...

here is a link to my results (21k+), you can see each line gives a position, status, and ITS MILE POST NUMBER - so the mile post must be near the crossing as we can see both signs in the shot: FRA Search Results

once we know the crossing number we can enter it here on this map of railroads to see it's axact location: http://fragis2.frasafety.net/GISFRASafety/default.aspx and also once we have the railroad crossing number we can also search for any accident reports related to it (from he same web site)...

here is a link to the clear picture of the numbers:
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4035/4602630102_41ed20a864_o.jpg

here is some addition info on identifying the crossing number, and some mathamatical verification... so the number on the post may well be the mathamatical verification of the crossing number rather than the actual milepost number.. or something like that..

Might the crossing be in Kentucky?

I find this thread interesting and maybe we need to look for a crossing. Take the newspaper hints, given in the minor articles:
- the traffic lights
- the crossing (very much hinted at)

and then the Bruli Pantry Garden article, which references to Kentucky, apparently for no reason. But Kentucy is just south of Ohio, so could it help us narrow down the search for the crossing spot?

We definitely need to find the railroad crossing

I think you're doing an awesome job guys, and I totally agree with Kingmyda: we NEED to find that railroad crossing to better understand the plot of the movie.

I don't know if it is linked with the viral, though. Maybe the traffic lights and crossing hints in the newspaper are relevant. Moreover, the PDP-11 computer of the scariestthingieversaw.com website is often used to manage traffic lights systems.

So, we have:
PDP-11 > Traffic Lights
Newspaper > Traffic Lights and Crossing
Trailer > Traffic Lights / Railroad Crossing

that may lead somewhere.

As I said... if someone could help searching through the crossing directory to match the mile post marker that would help.

I'm just wondering, has anyone ever mentioned this?
http://www.super8news.com/2010/05/10/the-firefight-at-dulce-nm/

I think the thoughts of the author are really comprehensible: "Could it be that one of the other 2 survivors of the Firefight is the driver of the truck we see in the trailer trying to run the train off the tracks, thus killing the creature that killed the 66 men (and possibly women) during the firefight?"

Like I said, I don't know if this came up before, but I don't think it's a coincidence.
What do you think? Question

Yes it has been mentioned. This was the earliest mention of Dulce Base I could find on this forum:

Yeah, love all that stuff.

Other related names/tales from Dan Morris' testimony:

Dulce Base - Underground facility (Valve said Half-Life was based on it)
Philip Schneider - Friend of Dan Morris, engineer carving out Dulce. One of the three survivors of a shoot-out between aliens and humans at Dulce.
Secretary of Defense Forestall - apparently assassinated because of UFO knowledge he wanted to leak.

Now reading about the Montauk Project. There is just so much mental context.

Oh, alright then.
I knew it was kinda old already, but I thought I should point it out once again.
Maybe it can help anyways somehow. Because if this lecture has something to do with it, we would already roughly know where the train started.

u wont find much proof esp in 70s of area 51 being shut down it wasnt aknowledged as real till 90s after 5 peopke died and spouses sued gov and president clinton stepped in to prevent law suit and bob lazaar has mostly been discredited so with area 51 they could make up anything or had theories for the story as much as theywant most likely so for a clue mayb look at train but not sure closed section of 51 would help and wright paterson afb is more important i think
